dying retail is one of my niche' interests so thanks for this. There's just something about exploring dying stores that used to be so full of life. Sears has been around so long that it's surreal tbh lol. Like when I went to kmart right before it closed here - I had so many memories there and it was just kinda haunting to see it so empty

So much American culture revolves around consumerism- watching it die out implies the death of an era & certain traditions and rituals being abandoned. Just think of the absolute grip Macy's has on Christmas 🎄

Sears should make a movie were the final customer goes into Sears one last time and no clip into the backrooms. Through out the movie the customer must navigate through the sears store in various time decades, while avoiding typical/crazy retail moments that happened within that store in the past. My brain go brrr.

Had a Sears near me for 20 years, but the last 5 years it was just like the one you visited. I always liked going there, cause I'd likely be the only customer. You'd know it was a big sale day if there were 10 cars in the parking lot. It finally closed last year. BTW, a little late, but Happy Birthday Jacob!

My parents met working at Sears in the 80s. So I guess you could say Sears is my origin story. Also, the story…They had been working at sears as teens and my dad’s friend told him he was going to ask out my mom… he walked over and my mom could tell. So like the hot girl she is, she knew what she wanted and before he asked she told Doug she thought my dad was cute. Poor Doug told my dad and the rest is history…. My dad did get Doug’s blessing and from what I hear he is doing fine these days.. so don’t feel too bad for Doug.

When I was a kid, there was a Lazarus in the mall with a restaurant that overlooked the whole thing! It was always my dream to eat in that restaurant. I imagined it was the height of fancy. But then it shut down before I ever got to eat there, crushing my one childhood dream. Your idea of a restaurant on top of Sears reminded me of that!

I work in malls all throughout FL. It's crazy cuz sears is closing, and the malls can't put anything new in those units because sears still owns them. They have sold off a lot of those units but I can think of 5 malls off the top of my head were sears left but still owns the unit and the mall is just stuck with this giant empty space they can't touch. A lot of people don't realize that the larger units are often owned by the stores in them. Sears, jc penny, Macy's, Barnes and nobles. They are technically private property to the company that owns them. I don't understand closing a store but continuing to own the property. It's not from a lack of interest in the units. So many companies are begging for those spots.

This is my home town sears (gardens). It was always funny to me that one of the last Sears is in one of the wealthiest malls. The Sears is officially closed now. The mall has been trying to get rid of it for years as it didn’t fit their luxury aesthetic. There’s some good videos out there of people exploring this Sears auto building, it was left untouched.

As a former retail associate I understand why Sears died but it still breaks my heart. Me and my Grandma spent HOURS in our local sears. I got my prom dress and all my favorite items there as a teen. My ex husband and I bought all of our home items with a gift card there. For years it’s where I bought all my Christmas gifts for family and friends. It was a store that made you feel like you shopping a department store without the usual department store price. RIP Sears ❤

I worked at this exact store (Palm Beach Gardens) in the shoe department in the late 90s when I was a teenager and I also worked for Sears in MA & TX too. We got paid 7-10% commission on the shoes and you could make really good money, and the place was really nice (exact same location in your video) where it was the type of service where one of each of the shoes were nicely displayed and we’d go find them for the customers in the back room. Eventually I knew almost every shoe we sold and where to find it our back, I had a lot of fun working there.

I live in Atlanta, and we've got a redeveloped Sears building that had a retail store and catalogue warehouse when it opened in 1926 (now it's Ponce City Market). It remains one of the largest buildings in the Southeast: at 2.1 million square feet. It's pretty amazing how majestic they were back then....all the modern ones that have closed in malls won't be remembered since they're just another department store.

I genuinely remember as a child .. like a fever dream .. being with my grandma and aunt in sears in canada and we went to this middle area that was like this office in the centre… i think we were there for fabrics or something… but i genuinely got to see the catalogues in the very early 2000s and some of the old editions were there aswell and they told me about how it used to be primarily ordered to the customer. Some warehouse areas or show rooms but primarily you would do the catalogue. Also out at a cabins I went to growing up the guys there had old catalogues and magazines in the outhouses. Some pieces are tapes/pinned to the walls. Really crazy and cool to see the old prices and things. I also gladly own one of my omas faux leopard coat that is from the time hudsons bay would have these things but you could get your initials embroidered inside. Prior to her passing I have found a few in thrift stores up here aswell from that era.
