It was either stolen or someone purchased a console and returned something else in the box and sony banned the serial number to prevent a stolen console from accessing the network.

Most likely used a compressor with a high pressure nozzle. Like you would use in a workshop / garage. Use those to clean things out all the time, just keep the psi WAY below 90psi (usually max for nozzles) can get things cleaned nice. However, I have blown small laptop fans to bits due to really high RPMs. LOL

one of the ban reasons on ps5 was using psn accounts to activate the psplus collection (that promotion was only for ps5 users, but if you redeem the collection, the ps4 games was usable on a ps4 console), and here on south america/latam, a lot of people *pays money* to redeem those games

Sounds to me it was in a warehouse that had some kind of fire damage, hence the "sigarette smell" and the outer box missing. Then it was just a insurance write off, causing Sony to block the serialnumbers from the network because they should have been scrapped. Just my 2 cents

I just got my ps5 a week ago and it actually has a tiny little scuff mark on the faceplate you usually attach the stand to as well. It's a brand new console tho... Does Sony test around with the stand before they package everything? The scuff mark basically looks like a tiny dot that you only see at an angle but not when you look at it head on.

That sucks man. I have bought from that particular seller on wish before and had really good luck with their refurbished items. I've even gotten some refurbished things that were new. It looks like maybe they thought it was in such good shape and then just decided it didn't need to be refurbished, but completely missed the fact that it was banned. I don't know how they could miss the fact that it smelled like cigarette smoke though because that's got to be pretty obvious since it was so bad when you turned it on.

@@Blackhomeking12 IKR. What I meant was that people have been HWID banned on PC for a variety of reasons but even by mistake by using riva tuner OSD, which uses similar techniques (d3d hooking) as cheats.. This is why I'm surprised this console is banned by default.

If the place it was stored at was a building of heavy smokers, I wouldn’t be surprised if the smell embedded into the plastic. Since plastic is porous, it can suck up scents that won’t be removed without a cleaning product. Weird fact I know because of my profession being body piercing XD
