ah, finally, a video where someone puts the cam in first :) i might recommend, if you stand the block up on its bellhousing area, gravity will help even more with putting the cam inside the block without dinging the bearings.

Loved to hear what you said regarding HV oil pumps. I have, in the past, ordered HV oil pumps and cut the spring to reducce pressure, or just use standard. It' s not necessary, as the windsor design has a really good oiling system. Good job!
@dodgefree14002 жыл бұрын
We always put high volume oil pumps in this engine and only this engine because they religiously hammer out the bottom end in heavier applications like econoline vans. The bottom end can’t handle 351 ci. Previous builder must have thought that. Excellent workmanship. Maybe materials are better now.

One thing that I would suggest always put a little lube on the bearings before sliding the cam in, whenever you have metal to metal contact especially on the bearings you could have put a scratch in the bearing causing a premature failure down the road. Never have middle to Middle contact no matter how good you are sliding a cam in

nice work! I see at 24:59 the dark spots in the bores, looks like the shallow untouched areas after touch honing with a torque plate. pretty common and not going to affect this combo but for someone rebuilding a Ford or a 4 head bolt pattern engine be aware if you plate hone something that doesn't need much material removed you will see these dark/low spots as that is how the bore distorts under headbolt load. I see you touched the decks on this one also. on core 351W blocks do you see a lot of deck warping? wondering. thanks!

Wow! I learned a lot from this video! Thank you for sharing your tips and experience with the public. Question, have you ever used the Total Seal Gapless piston rings? I am currently rebuilding a 351W marine engine myself and am considering trying the gap-less rings. Wanted your take on the gap-less rings? Basically bone stock engine including the flat tappet cam (reverse rotation) and between 8:1 and 8.5:1 compression ratio. Happy New Year!

Great video.. One of the best ive seen. And i have been watching alot. Me and son on our first build SBC, you have given alot of really good tips, you really do a good job the little bit of RTV on the nipple on rear cap. The attention to detail is really good. I want to come work with you for a month and learn all i can. So at 11 minute mark, using that gauge does that same as using plastic gauge?

I’m watching your build to find a very interesting learned a few things may I offer something to you. Since you do not like high volume oil pumps and I wanted to make a note that since that engine did have a high volume pump that may be why it looks so very good and had no way or whatsoever, at any rate, you did not blueprint the Oil system on the block. He did not match the oil pump to the port on the engine. He did not streamline the passages to the old filter , I’d like to suggest that you do that if you’re not gonna use a high volume pump

when you install those rods into the block i always use a 4 inch 3/8 fuel hose installed onto the rod stud threads,,, this way i do not rub against the nice crank rod journal, i see those pistons have a point grove in them to show us which way to do a piston install pointing forward or backward, you should put oil in between those rods they are dry on the crank... and oil the crank rubbing on the thrust crank bearing always it too is dry ???

did you know you will lose torque when using that long long 3/8 extension / you want to bring that torque wrench as close to the bolt or nut as you can. or use a 1/2'' thick extension so it will not twist and lose torque, this is like a torque stick for a wheel lug nut do you know what a torque stick is ???

Is a 351 marine better the the 351 car engine or exactly the same.
@jeffdiehl83942 жыл бұрын
internal parts are usually the same unless it's a reverse rotation engine which would have a different cam and distributor gear. also they use an iron front timing cover as it supports more weight and sometimes brass freeze plugs for corrosion resistance.

at 17:22 you installed rings into the block only one in each hole to check ring end gap on every hole ??? you did not teach us why ??? those rings installed on the piston should be positioned at 180 deg of the other ring gap as per install instructions ... but they say rings spin around the piston when engine is running ?? so i really would not matter where you install the ring gap ends to achieve the 180deg ring gap location... just say`n...
