I had no problems with a D4 block @ 720hp turning 8500 with a 3.75 crank and 6.25 rod. 850 and victor Jr. Liberty heads with 2.08 &1.60. Camshaft was 6.30 and 268/273 @ 0.50. LC 110. In a maverick it makes for some surprises on the street scene here. As I stated in an earlier reply I’m used to Cobra Jets and Cleveland power but I’m getting in to these little engines for the first time since the 70s and they have come a long way especially in cylinder head design. Thanks again Ben. You are a true innovator.

I presently use stock press/vol. oil pump on aftermarket blocks because it has the front crossover oil line and not just the one in the back. On race/high performance builds I use the HV pumps because it tends to starve the end of the lifter galleys and it is trouble if it is not modified.

I ran pump gas on a 8.2 deck stroker…used a 351c crank turned down to fit….and old CHP piston / rod combo… Roughly 11.2 to 1 compression with 190 psi cranking compression….mild solid roller cam, Vic jr heads , EFI spyder intake. The car ran really well, in fact it was a well hated car at the drag strip….beating Big block guys with full on back half cars in my 27” tall street slick 3350# fox body… I think I got away with pump gas because it had aluminum heads and EFI…… I ran the same engine with a carb set up for a week once and it would rattle at times with the same tune…

It's a shame that hackers can't find something better to do with their time other than trying to profit off someone else's hard work. I love what you do with factory heads! Everyone calls them junk but the right person can make them flow enough to get you in trouble! What is your opinion on the thin piston rings available today? Is a 1 mm ring set durable enough for daily durability? I know many OEM's are using rings that thin but I haven't heard anything about how they hold up.

No sealant because the excess might go into the galley and plug things up. I just chamfer the edges, heat up the area and press it in. To top it off I place super silicone sealer or epoxy to lock it in and that is all you need to do.

Ben, when do you make the choice to go 4 bolt conversion? Is it based on stroke? Rpm? Or both maybe? With the cost of Dart blocks now im guessing many will choose to go stock block. Did you see any walking of the mains if you didnt do the 4 bolt conversion?
@benalamedaracing2765
@benalamedaracing2765 2 ай бұрын
David, we can minimize cap walk and bounce with 4 bolt mains. However, when it is detonating/pre-igniting big time no bolt or bolts will prevent it from happening as I have seen it even with 6 bolts (4 bolt + cross bolt across). It is a lot of force that will break cranks, rods and the block or all of them! The fix is how to avoid them and I can tell when I take the block apart...

Ok, I'll bight the question. Why a low CCP when it is expected to be higher? That surprised me. Is it for the 2nd ring deleted for lower drag and optimal at the higher rpm range? Sure sounded very responsive with great signal pulses.

DSS makes a flat top that will work with a 6.250 rod in this combo. I would use a Total Seal gapless top, possibly with horizontal gas ports. You think it would make much more power than stock rod combo and KB with conventional rings?
