I joined the army at age of 15 years and amongst us all Will Star was about the greatest ever heard accordionists of that period - truly never to be forgotten for this beautiful music of his and his reason for composing it - thank you Will Star across eternity......

He was a friend of my father who also played the box and was offered a chance to play with the white heather club and go on tour to Canada but turned it down because he did not want to leave his family he was and always will be the greatest accordion player of all time bet he is playing with my father in heaven who's going to help the lord for they both liked a dram

True Will liked a dram, or more than one. But he really did beat the booze and for the last ten years of his life - He was completely TT. I can vouch for that being associated with Ronnie Coburn and the Royal Clansman - Will not only performed with the Clansmen - He was a full director.

I reckon your David Vernon adds an interesting touch. I find it difficult to play smoothly.
@owtatowttowt11 жыл бұрын
apparently he hid whiskey in a cane & would play drunk, getting faster the drunker he was.
@AllansStation7 жыл бұрын
Another myth - worked with Will many times - it never happened. Just one of those made up stories.
@alistairthompson83117 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that even talented individuals find it very difficult to play to a high standard when drunk - probably not a good idea. Surely a good fellow Scot like Mr Starr would drink whisky anyway, not whiskey!
