Ok so right off the bat I dont think Roark is working. Rock Slide and Iron Head are way too powerful moves to have in the first gym. And Rampardos? Really? A pokemon with a 165 Atk stat and a Speed boosting move with Rock Polish. I think not sir

There are so many things wrong with this, its hard to explain how bad some of these decisions are: First off, keeping the same number of pokemon is pretty lame. I’m not saying make every leader have 6 pokemon, but Volkner can have more than 4 pokemon. Roark…..you give him a Rampardos (which btw, wasn’t even a part of his initial battle against Ash in the anime, it was still a Cranidos), and then warp the exp curve and other pokemon around justifying its balance. Level 18 is insane. You cannot expect to have your pokemon leveled that high after fighting essentially 12-14 trainers at most up to this point. Even if you are using Rare Candies, you’ve completely thrown off the exp curve for the fights after this. Onix and Geodude are counters, yes, but they’re the ONLY counters. The solution being “bring the one or two pokemon Rampardos doesn’t two-shot” is terrible design Gardenia is fine, though due to how the game calculates IVs for enemy trainers in this game HP Poison isn’t possible, only HP Fighting or HP Dark. Fantina is terrible. Nobody thought Morty was a well designed gym leader. Also two of her pokemon can’t even pose a threat to normal types. Maylene now has a huge ground weakness with no coverage for it, and making Meditite fully physical means one thing. Burn it, set up, sweep with EQ. There’s nothing here that can touch the Gible/Gabite a player likely has at this point. Wake’s lead Gastrodon has a similar problem: it can’t hit Water Absorb pokemon, or deal damage after Brine runs out of PP. Similar story, set up and sweep. Byron…..this is terrible. Hidden Power issue same as before, Magnet Rise is whatever, but you’re going to be knocked out as soon as it ends and again, swept by EQ. Also, you’ve given the AI no moves to hit Gabite again. Here’s a better idea for Candice: Have Overworld hail, and Abomasnow in the back. The player will likely have some weather effect to override Hail if its just put at the start, so having Ambomasnow in the back to reset Hail would make it more challenging. You really made Volkner a double battle so you could use funny haha Pachirisu….and then removed Electivire.

I think Gardenia had a Turtwig for natdex reasons, so if you picked a Chimchar, you'd still have seen a Turtwig. Though since her trainers are all mandatory, it would make sense to just give it to a gym trainer, and evolve Turtwig to Grotle for Gardenia's actual team.

Well...Pchal did ranked him so low in the tier of gym leader difficulty in nuzlockes and roasted him when he explained his deathless BDSP nuzlocke for a reason. (Tbf, in BDSP...he leads off with a Bronzor (really should've been Bronzong but of course BDSP is too faithful to the original games that isn't Platinum) that knew Trick Room and can use Confuse Ray and set up Sandstorm iirc) Of course, if this were a solo run...depending on the pokemon you're using, that's a different story. But yeah, I can kinda see your point.

Alongside what everyone else said about Rampardos, Shieldon, and Electivire, I'm low-key sad that no one gets an Empoleon. Gardenia gets Turtwig, and Flint has Infernape, so I figured either Wake or Byron would get a Prinplup/Empoleon to complete the trifecta. Sure it might be too regal, but that crown/beak kinda looks like a mask and Wake and Empoleon both have similar intro animations in Platinum. Also, I'm surprised that Byron didn't have Levitate Bronzong for those pesky Ground types.

Empoleon does complement Byron's team pretty well, considering that it can deal with Ground, fire and fighting (Via drillpeck) types that the other are very scared to fight (like magneton does against the water types that Steelix and Bastiondon are weak to)

Yeah, Roark should not get Shieldon. He’s supposed to be an offensive-based Rock-type Gym Leader as opposed to his father Byron’s defensive-based Steel-type Gym Team. Their respective fossil Pokemon reflect this and, unless you plan to go full fanon and change Rampados’ type, Byron can’t use it without comprising himself as a Steel-type Gym leader. I would’ve just replaced Onix with Rhyhorn.

It's so weird seeing Volkner not having an Electivire...especially since his elite four buddy has a Magmortar. (You're probably not gonna change Flint's ace since there's only a total of 5 fully evolved fire types you can obtain in the Platinum dex to begin with that isn't the legendary Heatran, unless you're chaotic enough to believe the powerful Elite Four deserves one or something) Even if Volkner never had Electivire in Diamond/Pearl and that Electivire really gets the short end of the stick in competitive in the first place. XD Had you gone with Electivire INSTEAD of say Raichu, it's moveset is probs just gonna be somethin' like Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and probably Protect as well since it's a double battle. Honestly and I dunno if anybody questioned this in Gen 4, but Volkner is quite the insignificant afterthought...like how the heck did do you transition from: - The Team Galactic plotline that concluded with an epic battle against the nihilistic leader and given the chance to catch/take down the legendary pokemon is basically distortion hell - ...to needing to cheer some jaded bored dude to get your last gym badge....okay then... - To having the climactic final battle against your rival before taking on the Elite Four for your conquest to become champion? This is quite the tonal whiplash, don't you think? This final gym battle doesn't feel as climactic, especially given the premise of it, plus that beat of the story is unfortunately sandwiched between the most pivotal moments in the overall progression of the game. (The final Cyrus battle + catching Giratina in the Distortion World, and taking on the pokemon league to become champion) It also doesn't help that you can also get the Earthquake TM WAY earlier in the game and his ace Electivire doesn't even have Ice Punch for coverage for ground types and Volkner doesn't even have five pokemon (even six might be interesting but that's probably never gonna happen in the main story of a pokemon game even for the final gym or the elite four) as the final gym assuming it were to be a single battle. XD What's next then? Buffing up teams of the Team Galactic admins and Cyrus, the rival, Elite Four, Champion, and maybe Frontier Brains (okay, probably not though, I assume) or something?

Yeah, now that you mention it, Volkner having Luxray over Magmortar IS weird! However, it's also a STRANGE concept as to why Gamefreak just didn't do that originally with Magmortar and Electivire being the OG aces of Flint and Volkner, too! Haha. And that's a SUPERB point! How do you do that??? I feel very few really have questioned that!! I mean, you make great points! EQ is way, WAY WAY too early in gen 4 Platinum! You get it RIGHT before gym 3??? Makes zero sense Haha! XD Honestly, if this video does well enough and people want me to redo Cyrus, the rival and the Elite Four, I'm down!!! But after watching this video, I think making the final gym being a double battle could help spruce things up a bit...sure it won't be as epic for the player like the ordeal in the Distortion World against Cyrus and Giratina or your final rival battle before your final five fights to become champion, but it would still be unique in it's own right and not make Volkner feel like the awkward afterthought that's been shoehorned in between the two most pivotal moments in the overall story. Heck, maybe making the final gym be a double battle could help set the stage for maybe either starting from the final rival fight or the elite four and champion also doing double battles! (I also think the elite four should've had full teams of six pokemon, it's awkward to only have a team of five when the rival and champion before and after have full teams of six) The possibilities are endless. Also, maybe to help make the Volkner (sub?)plot between the two most pivotal points in the game feel even less of afterthought that's been shoehorned in is...like here's how I think things could've gone: When you arrive at Sunnyshore City...which is where you also first meet Flint, who tells you about Volkner losing his spark for battling and become a detached apathetic loner that's too jaded and depressed to do his job. Maybe have Flint, after introducing himself, immediately realizing who the player is and tells the player that he's heard about them from Cynthia about and what happened against Team Galactic and the Distortion World (Y'know, continuity and not pretending what you just went through ever happened and the final gym not feeling like an out of the blue breather) and the maybe Flint could say something like "I've heard you don't have your final badge yet...and I just have an idea and with a strong trainer like you, with those eyes and accomplishments, you'd be perfect for the job!" and that's when he tells the player about Volkner. I also would have Flint tell the player that he did talk to Volkner about "The super tough prodigious trainer that teamed up with our region's most hot powerful champion to take down Team Galactic and caught/slayed a powerful legendary" or something along the lines but Volkner didn't believe him and now that's where the player finally comes along. Only after the player beats Volkner (maybe in my version, he does actually use a full team of six. After all, as the final gym, he needs a powerful skilled trainer that can triumph over him at his strongest to help him win his spark for battling again back) does the electric gym leader realize it, heck maybe there could be exclusive text from Volkner if you actually battle him with a Giratina on your team. But yeah, that's how I'd probably re-adjust the afterthought that is the awkward plotline of needing to cheer up a depressed bored thunder dude that felt forced in between the two most climactic pivotal points in the game. I know you're mostly just taking care of the team buffing, with occasional bits of pokemon movepool buffs here and there, rather than the story and characters themselves in your fixing video but still, and this plot beat adjustment would definitely add to the final gym battle against Volkner. What do you think? Anyways yeah, I'd like to see how you'd handle the teams for Team Galactic (the admins and Cyrus, since they're the major trainers), the rival, (who has multiple teams throughout the story) and finally the Elite Four and Champion Cynthia. Heck, it could even be three separate videos if you want. But yeah, it be cool.

... are you wanting to make the challenge mode of Pokémon Platinum? I'm not saying the changes are bad, just too drastic to fit the characters. Roark - Rampardos is too overpowered, having two high powered moves that are pretty accurate on a Mold Breaker mon is excessive. And that's not mentioning the Focus Sash. Fantina - why did you give her the Duskull line exclusive, it just makes her seem like discount Phoebe. Byron - for difficulty sakes, couldn't you just added Bronzor back, evolve it and made Byron the Trick Room user (It make sense for Steel-types than Ghost) or added Empoleon like he is shown owning in BDSP for coverage. Candice - since hail is indefinite in gen 4 via snow warning, I'd give Glaceon Leftovers over the Icy Rock. Volkner - Why not keep the team the way you've made it, but add Electivire and making both him and Luxray the aces of Volkner's team?

Yes, that's basically what my intention was! I appreciate the feedback for sure, and will follow suit! Roark - you're not wrong that it's too overpowered, I just really like making things brutally challenging for not only myself but everyone else, too! Fantina - I wanted her to have a trick room team, and Mismagius doesn't really fit that bill. Haha. Byron - I could have added Bronzong back, but Lucian also has that so I was trying to keep them unique as I was trying to only stick to the Platinum Dex, and as for Empoleon, I have other reasons for not adding that. I had recorded the Elite 4 version of this, but just never got a chance to edit it or pay an editor to edit it because I had to get a car payment and work a lot more, so it's been tough to try and get more content out. Candice - I only had Glaceon with that moveset in case the trainer decided to bring weather of their own to stop hail right away. Volkner - again, without spoiling my elite 4/champion teams, I was trying to make every trainer seem unique and that was the best way to do it! Again, I really appreciate your well thought out feedback! It definitely helps me for future videos!

See this is all fun and dandy but I dont like Roark having Shieldon because the entire point of him was hard offense as opposed to his dads defensive strategy, which is why they split up the fossils for one of each to begin with. Everything else is chaotic and fun tho

What is the point of Gardenia setting up Sunny Day? Cherrim’s ability boosts attack so that doesn’t help everyone if they’re all special attackers. And it affects Roserade’s weather ball type but it’s not weak to bugs and there won’t be any ice types around this early. I feel like she’ll still just get steamrolled with these sets, she needs coverage over sun.
