@@chrystalriver570 Firstly, Tyrogue on an Elite 4 team is criminal. Secondly, Blaze Kick is Gen 3 and was an exclusive move to Blaziken until Gen 4. Lastly, the physical/special split didn't happen until Gen 4, so a move like Thunderpunch would use Hitmonchan's special attack stat which is arse. 😉

Giving Falkner Noctowl isn't such an absurd idea in the first place. It's attack is actually even lower than Pidgeotto, so it won't be hitting as hard. You can opt to not have Hypnosis or Roost on it if you think that would make it too powerful. Just Tackle and Gust.
@Dengar_YT6 ай бұрын
Noctowl does however get nearly double the HP and Sp Def so it's living for twice as long as the pink haired bird and even has more bulk than a Pidgeot. Noctowl would be very beatable, don't get me wrong but Murkrow is just a more balanced and interesting Pokémon in my opinion. (Plus a level 9 Noctowl actually seems ever more silly and illegal than a level 9 Pidgeotto...)

@@Dengar_YT I also was surprised that Falkner didn't have Noctowl as his ace either in the games or the anime. To me it just makes sense that Noctowl could be an ace. He's honestly not that strong, and at level 9 he wouldn't get too many benefits of BST. And there are several examples in the games where they cheat the levels of evolution, which I think is fine for NPC enemies. I think Murkrow is a good idea on paper, but it being dark type takes the focus too much from flying type, even though he's a lousy dark user. Maybe it would make more sense if Bugsy and Falkner were switched? Then Bugsy could have something like Ariados or Ledian as his ace with spinarak, ledyba or pineco as the other pokemon.

I got 2 ideas for Claire teams. Claire should also have an interesting mix of starters, and a mix of Dragon Egg groups, since Lance has a charizard in the elite 4 and since gen 2 introduces the breeding mechanic. Each of gen 1 starters are not necessarily dragon, but reptilian and can breed with many types of dragons throughout the series via the Monster egg group. That means she could lead with Dragonair, then Arbok, Ampharos, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Ace with Kingdra. This would give her that same move coverage the 3 dragonairs had while not overlapping with Lance. A different idea would be that Claire would do very well as a Water trainer, since her Ace is Kingdra and shes all about whirlpool and the dragon cave in the lake. Lore could be explained that the leadership of dragons was given to Lance instead of her and that shes very jealous. This team would be Seadra, Dragonair, Blastoise, Gyarados, Lapras, and Kingdra

@@championanthony7643 I like the idea of Lance being a flying dragon and clear with the sea dragons
This is a really solid line up of fixed Gym Leaders! If I’m gonna do anything for Morty, I’m changing his type to not Dark or Ghost, but Psychic. Morty’s intro speech mentions being able to see things other people cannot see and training to be able to see the future. Besides that, which that is all surface level (and can kinda still fit Ghost with I See Dead People Sixth Sense logic), he talks about how Legendary Pokémon are revered and using sinister types like Ghost and Dark don’t feel like the types you use to appeal to a Legendary revered Pokémon. So, naturally… now Morty is the Psychic type specialist. This isn’t to have two Psychic specialists, but it would swap him and Will. Perhaps even have Morty in the Elite 4 and Will in Ecruteak. And for the team, the Ace is Espeon, with a Xatu which fits for seeing both the past and future, a Kadabra, and a Wobbuffet. I felt all of them thematically work, between being able to sense threats and see the future, or being extremely patient in Wobbuffet’s case. Not sure on movesets or the like, and maybe there’s a better way to handle the team, but I feel like Ecruteak’s gym leader would be more fitting for a Psychic type specialist.

I'd personally keep Morty a ghost specialist and tweak his team just a tiny bit: Gengar, his ace Misdreavus, to get johto rep Natu, Mortys in-game title is the " Mystic seer of the future " and is stated that he has some psychic abilities so I felt like Natu ( whose dex entries all state how it can see the future ) fits perfectly And finally his last team member is either Haunter, but if you don't want any of the gastly line you could also give him Unown to capitalize on Mortys interst in folklore and the occult or maybe Stantler which is exclusive to the route right outside Ecruteak Also about claire, a pokemon you completely missed and never mentioned for some reason is: Ampharos, not only is its mega form a part dragon type + its a johto mon + its japanese name is actually a PUN on dragons ( which is why it gained the dragon typing in gen 6 )

Here are what I would do for the Gym Leader teams... Falkner: Hoothoot, Murkrow (Same as the video) Bugsy: Ledyba, Spinarak, Scizor (Scizor also has the same BST as Scyther, just adjusted differently) Whitney: Clefairy, Snubbull, Miltank (Clefairy makes sense bc the gym maze is shaped like a Clefairy) Monty: Misdreavus, Stantler, Noctowl, Gengar (Stantler is found around Ecruteak & is able to induce Illusions with its horns) Chuck: Primeape, Poliwrath, Heracross (Heracross is the only Fighting-Type to not be repped at all in GSC by any major trainer so it makes sense to put it on Chuck's team and make it the ace) Jasmine: Skarmory, Magneton, Steelix (Skarmory not being used for any major trainer in GSC is a big womp womp so we fix that here, but this team is essentially the same as the video minus Corsola & Forretress) Pryce: Sneasel, Dewgong, Cloyster, Piloswine (Sneasel is the only other new Ice-Type besides Delibird and makes sense for Pryce, essentially the same as the video minus Stantler) Clair: Lapras, Dragonair, Gyarados, Kingdra (Lapras is somewhat draconian & is validated even further by the fact that Iris uses one in B2/W2 in her Champion battle) With these teams, every Gym Leader now has a Johto native ace aside from Morty & utilize plenty of Johto native Pokémon. They also mostly stay on type theme and when they don't, the Pokémon they use have flavor text to connect them to that gym (i.e Stantler, Lapras).

Well thought out. I think Scizor as a second gym will be harder for new players to wrap their head around or defeat very effectively because of its high Attack stat for this early in the game. But for returning players it will be a good challenge to prep for especially if they don't choose Cynda as the starter. I agree with the other teams, though. Stantler on Morty is great thematically. Sudowoodo is a good wrench in the cogs for a Flying type sweep because it resists.

@@abrarkadabrar7829 Fair, Scizor does have a high Attack stat & it would be a challenge to take down due to it's Steel-Type. I do know that Scizor in GSC isn't really that good with level up moves and isn't much better with TMs, but if we looked through the HGSS lens, Scizor is really really good 😭 In that case, I think Scyther could still work on Bugsy bc no major trainer uses it in RBY plus it evolves into Scizor, who is Johto native.

Why not swap Heracross out for Bugsy and use Pineco instead (While i have people seen mentioning Scizor, having a Steel type so early on, especially with the attack stat of Scizor, is way to OP when you don't have proper counter if you haven't chosen Cyndaquil). Jynx provides that coverage for the Fighting type weakness with her Psychic type + evolves from Smoochum, a Johtonian Pokemon.

@abrarkadabrar78296 ай бұрын
Early gyms are deceptively hard to balance because they are supposed to be challenging but not necessarily difficult. I've seen the justification of their teams being that those Gen 1 Pokémon were never included in major NPC teams in Kanto so that's why Falkner gets the Pidgey line and Bugsy gets Scyther. That said, I like what you've done with those 2. The nocturnal theme of Hoothoot and Murkrow is a great touch. Murkrow is unexpectedly strong with its BST and will definitely outspeed anything without quick attack. For Bugsy, Heracross is tougher than Scyther due to that min max stat spread which will be challenging for new players. And for someone coming in with a Rock type expecting the bug/fly sweep will be caught off guard and also teach players the type chart and question why Rock type attacks aren't super effective but Flying type attacks beat it so easily. Also. Yes Skarmory! A second Spikes setter after Foretress for Jasmine's team is genius. It's deceptively fast even with a 70 base speed and access to Agility. And the team synergy with the unexpected Corsola for the Fire resist. My guy you have just made Jasmine the ultimate icon for a jump scare in Pokémon, Cynthia and Garchomp eat your hearts out. Got Earthquake? Skarmory is immune. Got Electric? Steelix is immune. Got Fire? 4x resistance and monster bulk of Corsola and sandstorm chip. Incredible. At this point she should just be the final gym leader with such a high calibre of utility and synergy amongst the team. Saying you did a good job is an understatement. I've left comments like this on 2 other videos since everyone wants to fix the Johto gym leaders for some reason... so I guess I'm gonna do it again. Falkner: Noctowl Spearow He's presumably based on a falconer, so theming his team around birds of prey seems like a neat idea. Spearow is a stronger, frailer version of Pidgey while Noctowl is a weaker, yet bulkier alternative to Pidgeotto. Murkrow may have a lower BST, but its speed, strength, and ability to hit Geodude with special dark STAB arguably makes it way more powerful than Noctowl. Bugsy: Heracross +anything I don't care what replaces Metapod and Kakuna since literally anything would be more useful than the cocoons. But I like the change from Scyther to Heracross since it always felt more like a bug than a fighter and it fits Bugsy's friendly vibe way better. Being a bug/fighting type also means that it still has an exploitable 4x weakness like Scyther, but it's not one that can be exploited by Geodude again. It also prevents type overlap with Ledyba. Whitney: Miltank +anything Miltank is pretty much the only one she needs to keep, otherwise she can have her pick of normal types. I'd probably choose Clefairy (shape of the gym) and Snubbull cuz they're pink and cute. It would get weird after the fairy retcon, but I'm taking this from the lens that we're the gen 2 developers building their teams from the ground up. Morty: Gengar Haunter Misdreavus Murkrow Misdreavus replaces Gastly; it's bulkier, slightly faster, and doesn't suffer from the same ground and psychic weaknesses as Gengar and Haunter. However, Murkrow is the real standout since it synergizes surprisingly well with the Gengar line. It resists/is immune to all their weaknesses and can therefore take out opposing dark, ghost, ground, and psychic types for them. The Murkrow/Gengar combo is already featured on Karen's team, but since Murkrow is so frail it seems much better suited for the midpoint of the game. Murkrow's Dex entry also says it's a sign of misfortune which could relate to Morty's role as a seer. Chuck: Poliwrath Primeape Hitmontop Graveler? Instead of looking at their region, I looked at Chuck's team through the lens of distributing power. See, Poliwrath and Heracross both have a BST of 500 while Primeape and the Hitmons coincidentally all have a BST of 455. Since Chuck is supposed to be the weaker fighting specialist, I thought it'd be best to give him the mons with averaged out stats while Bruno got the mons with optimized stats. So Chuck gets Poliwrath, Primeape, and Hitmontop while Bruno gets Lee, Chan, and Heracross (I know it overlaps with Bugsy but whatever). The Graveler mostly exists as a reference to Chuck tossing aside a boulder before his gym battle, but it also fits with his tough aesthetic (similar to Bruno's Onix) and deals with flyers. And since most of the other gym leaders have some kind of type advantage over grass, this gym will be throwing Chikorita users a bone. Jasmine: Steelix Magneton Skarmory Forretress (maybe Rhydon) Conveniently, the steel types in this generation already have great synergy. Steelix and Magneton cover offense while Skarmory and Forretress cover defense. The team's only major weakness is arguably fire since none of them have a resistance/neutrality to it, but that's where Rhydon comes in. It's far from perfect; it's still slow and specially frail and might feel redundant after Chuck's Graveler. But it can resist and hit fire types for super effective damage and has a smooth gray exterior like the rest of Jasmine's steel types. I don't know where it'd fit in, but it could replace Forretress since it's also on Koga's team and Skarmory already "resists" ground and fighting (you know what I mean). Corsola would probably take fire moves more comfortably, but it's statistically below par compared to the rest of Jasmine's team, and there's just something powerful about the 6th gym leader taking on Giovanni's ace. Pryce: Dewgong Piloswine Sneasel Jynx Piloswine and Dewgong already have pretty good synergy and get rid of fire, steel, and rock. Jynx gets rid of fighters and Sneasel can hopefully sweep everything else with its great speed and decent attack. I could add a 5th member, but then half of Pryce's team would overlap with Lorelei's (unless I added Delibird) so I think it's fine if he just has 4 mons like the Chuck and Jasmine. Thematically it also means he has all the mammalian ice types, but realistically that's just an excuse to distinguish his team from Lorelei's mostly aquatic team. Also, weirdly enough, Pryce's ace Piloswine is actually weaker than Dewgong in terms of BST, but if Dewgong had kept its 95 special attack from gen 1 it would be on par with the BST of the other gym leaders' aces which all hang around 500. Clair: Kingdra Dragonair x2 Gyarados Lapras Since Clair is obviously modeling her team after Lance's, I think it's fine for her to have extra Dragonairs, but I agree that 3 is a lot. Cutting it to 2 so that she's mimicking Lance's gen 1 team feels more appropriate to show that she's always behind him, and it guarantees that half her team is actually dragon type. Meanwhile Gyarados and Lapras are just other blue sea dragon Pokemon. Only one of them is really necessary, but I think 5 members is a respectable upgrade for the last gym without it being as impractical as a full team of 6. Gyarados is already on Clair's remake team and is recognized as a dragon on Lance's team. But Lapras serves as an alternative answer to opposing dragons that isn't weak to dragon itself. It also carries the prestige of being extremely rare and Lorelei's ace, which gives it a lot more clout than Feraligatr and Seadra imo. It's similar to my reason for giving Jasmine a Rhydon. Overall this was a fun video. There's definitely a lot that made me wanna fight, but I'm glad I got to send in my take. My only other thought is that I don't think including Kanto Pokemon _has_ to be a bad thing. I get that people are frustrated by the consistent sidelining of new Johto Pokemon, but a lot of gym leaders use older Pokemon (aside from Unova's I guess) so it's not the end of the world. Then again, it's definitely way more noticeable in this region so 🤷
@matthewroberts1986 ай бұрын
For Bugsy I've heard its possible due to his research, he keeps Metapod and Kakuna to see if they learn any more moves which is why they are past their evolution levels. For Jasmine, maybe she picked up the Magnemite in the Kanto Power Plant before the changes since in Gen 1 you can catch Magnemite around those levels she has. For teams I would keep Morty a Ghost specialist but give him Noctowl or Stantler since they're mystically-ish. Mismagius his ace in the remakes. I'd give Pryce an Octillery since you never really see it in-game and its a good resistance to counter Fire Types. Clair like others say I agree she is Sea Dragons. I’ve seen a number of “Fix Gym Leader” videos, and I gotta say, I like the thoughts & choices for what you presented here. I’d take a slightly different approach to the team design & philosophy. I am 100% on board that the Gyms in Johto are awfully planned & are way too reliant on Kanto. The mid game is also horribly underleveled because the game wants to have branching paths, but kept the levels too low meaning you’d bulldoze the mid game. I do think some leaders having Kanto aces isn’t a bad thing, under the conditions that •The Kanto mon in mind had little representation in gen 1 •The Kanto mon in question got attention in gen 2 in some way. Say with an evolution or new split evo. With that in mind, and the philosophy of filling in team slots with members that fit the trainers personally if they don’t have enough mons for their type, this is how I’d organize the Teams for the Johto Leaders. Last mon in the lineup is the Ace Falkner: Hoothoot, Natu, Murkrow Bugsy: Pineco, Spinarak, Scyther Whitney: Clefairy, Aipom, Miltank Morty: Houndour, Stantler, Haunter, Misdreavus Chuck: Hitmontop, Pinsir, Sudowoodo, Poliwrath Jasmine: Magneton, Foretress, Skarmory, Steelix Pryce: Dewgong, Sneasel, Jynx, Piloswine Clair: Seadra, Dragonair, Gyarados, Lapras, Kingdra

I feel that for Chuck Poliwrath is a much better choice since in Heargold & Soulsilver he's meditating under a waterfall and his gym puzzle needs you to stop said waterfall to be able to challenge him. And since Poliwrath is a Water / Fighting type it's pretty much suited for his gym because of the whole waterfall theme. But on regular Gold / Silver / Cristal Primeape is more suited.

The teams i would give the Johto Gym Leaders: Falkner: Hoothoot and Murkrow Bugsy: Ledyba, Spinerak and Scyther Whitney: Jigglypuff, Aipom and Miltank Morty: Misdreavus, Haunter, Stantler and Gengar Chuck: Hitmontop, Ursaring, Poliwrath and Heracross Jasmine: Forretress, Magneton, Skarmory and Steelix Pryce: Sneasel, Cloyster, Jynx and Piloswine Claire: Dragonair, Gyarados, Lapras, Dragonair and Kingdra Some Notes I know Scyther is Kanto but I think it's fine considering Scyther was not given a lot of attention in Kanto Whitney's team was designed to be future proof, hence the Jigglypuff instead of Clefairy or Snubull Since Smoochum is a Johto mon, giving Pryce Jynx makes sense to me

With Morty you don't necessarily need to make his type dark... Just give him sinister pokemon all with ghost type moves that play havoc with your team... This makes him diverse in typing (a nice curve ball as the halfway point) while maintaining a ghostly aura for his gym type... His ace should be a strong Misdreveus flanked by a mixture of dark, poison and just intimidating pokemon... Houndoom, Marowak, Umbreon, Crobat and Murkrow could pull this off (similar to Karen but you could write that off as they are somewhat related to each other in some way and he takes inspiration from her) Jasmine I feel should have a Scizor as it's a badass steel type (obviously steelix remains her ace) but Scizor would be a good difficulty spike to throw in first at the start of the battle. Clair is regarded as a dragon specialist second only behind Lance and there's a relationship there between the 2 of them so you could look at Clair as an understudy to Lance (albeit a powerful one) where Lance has a Dragonite Clair has a Dragonair... She could also have an Aerodactyl and Gyarados inspired by Lance... Her own spin could involve a strong Tyranitar with an even stronger Kingdra (her ace) and why not have a Feraligater... If you don't want to use starters then how about a dragonfly in Yanma (give it a unique move pool if possible and could be a weird spanner in the works to throw off the opponent)

Very nice content! I love the out of the box thinking, but the mistyped Mon like Stantler with Pryce doesn't work for me (one person's opinion however). Here is how I would try to do this: Falkner- Dodou & Noctowl, day & night Pokemon duo, Kanto underutilized & Johto ace Bugsy- Spinarak & Ledyba & Pinsir, two new Johto bugs plus an ace of a Kanto Pokemon that I don't think was used at all Whitney- Teddiursa & Jigglypuff & Miltank, a new Johto rarely seen with a fairy that is still normal plus that damn Miltank Morty- Misdreavus & Stantler & Haunter, this is harder due to ghost limitations but it has both lines of the ghost plus a local wild Mon to avoid duplicates Chuck- Primeape & Machoke & Hitmontop, I'm saving Heracross & Poliwrath for later so this will do Jasmine- Skarmory & Magneton & Scizor, all good steel types with less damage to Scizor thanks to Magneton setting up rain Pryce- Delibird & Dewgong & Piloswine, same theory as original team but an actual Johto ice type instead of the Kanto water type Clair- Gyarados & Dragonair & Lapras & Kingdra, limited dragons but Lance is considered an aerial dragon type whereas Clair can represent the sea, Lapras was used by Iris as champion Double down with the Elite Four Will- Xatu & Jynx & Slowbro & Slowking & Espeon, a well diversed psychic team with Johto ties, Girafarig would be added in a rematch Koga- Tentacruel & Muk & Venomoth & Weezing & Crobat, his Let's Go rematch team with Golbat evolved, Ariados would be added in a rematch Bruno- Poliwrath & Hitmonchan & Hitmonlee & Steelix & Machamp, his Let's Go team with his Onix evolved, Hitmontop would be added in a rematch Karen- Umbreon & Vileplume & Murkrow & Houndoom & Tyranitar, two pseudo legendaries back to back just like Drake then Steven one gen later, Sneasel would be added in a rematch I have a Wally-like team for Lance as I think it would be a great representation of the previous Elite Four. He would keep Dragonite obviously, Gengar for Agatha, Lapras for Lorelei, and Exeggutor for Blue. As for Bruno, let's say he & Lance do three trades; Bruno's Onix holding a metal coat for Lance's Poliwrath followed by this now Steelix going back to Bruno in exchange for Heracross then Bruno's second Onix holding a metal coat as a thanks to Lance who gifts him his rematch Hitmontop. This means Lance would have six dual type Pokemon with no repeats in Heracross, Gengar, Exeggutor, Lapras, Steelix, & Dragonite

10/10! I’ll start working on Hoenn leaders for ya! I think an easy fix for overlapping with Karen (or any League team) is to remove or soften the type specialty. Why are the five best Trainers in the region packing only one Type, with zero coverage or variety? If anything, give them a specialty type, and let them have Pokémon to balance it and use that type of move.

For Morty, I think that rather than changing his entire type of specialization, it'd be better to fill up his team with creepy mon that fit his vibe. I mean, Stantler and Girafarig are right there. Give him one, or both of them. Though, if I had to choose one of them, I'd go with Girafarig. It's a psychic type, which makes it better than Stantler. The creepy tail design fits Morty's edgy vibe. So, for him, I'd go: Gengar, Misdreavous, Haunter and Girafarig. Also, Girafarig has a base 80 attack? And gosht was for some reason physical in gen 2, so it'll hit decently hard with Shadow ball. Give it: confusion, stomp, shadow ball, and idk thief? Or growl or smth.

I have a dream version of Johto remakes. Number 1 better gym leader teams with Aces that are actually from Johto. So basically everything in this video. But with modern changes like the Fairy type, physical/special split, and Gen 9 (soon to be 10) move sets. Next is an expanded Pokédex and access to regional variants (like how it was handled in Let’s Go but you can nickname). This way Morty can have Mismagius as his ace, and Annihilape for rematches. Plus we can give Koga Sneasler and Overqwil to make him actually challenging. And for evolving Pokemon to get their Hisuian forms, a new held item the Hisui Charm will do it once they reach a certain level. This will apply to the starter Typhlosion for those that actually like the Hisuian form (I personally prefer the original). But Pokémon like Ursaluna will be changed to using their regular items (in its case just use it at night). Returning features: Mega Evolution is a must because it’s the only gimmick I like. But a mega doesn’t mean it’s the Ace Pokémon all the time. For new teams: Faulkner: Ace Murkrow, Hoot Hoot with rematch Honchcrow, Noctowl, Xatu, Togekiss, Dodrio, and Mega Pidgeot Bugzy: Ace Heracross, Scyther, and Yanma Rematch: Mega Scizor, Yanmega, Butterfree, Beedrill, Forrestresd, and Heracross Whitney: Ace Miltank, Jigglypuff (to replace Clefairy now that its not Normal type) and Tediursa Rematch: Miltank, Ursaluna, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Wigglytuff, and Tauros Morty: Ace Mismagius, Haunter, Mismagius, and a low level Umbreon Rematch: Mismagius, Gengar, Alolan Marrowak, Annihilape, Cursola, and Hisuian Typhlosion Chuck: Ace Hitmontop, Poliwrath, Machoke, and Sudowoodo (a curveball that I imagine works as those wooden training dummies so it would still fit the vibe of a fighting gym) Rematch: Mega Heracross, Hitmontop, Machamp, Annihilape, Poliwrath, Sudowoodo Jasmine: Ace Steelix, Skarmory, Magneton, and Ampharos (I honestly think it should be be steel anyway because of steel wool and its tail could be a lightning rod) Rematch: Mega Steelix, Magnezone, Skarmory, Alolan Sandslash, Forretress, Ampharos Price: Ace Mamoswine, Weavile, Dewgong, and Cloyster Rematch Mamoswine, Weavile, Alolan Ninetails, Cloyster, Dewgong, and Lapras As for Clair’s team I would give her, Ace Kingdra, Dragonair, Arbok, Gyarados, and Lapras (make it Dragonite and add Mega Ampharos for rematches) Elite 4: Will: Ace Sloking, Xatu, Wyrdeer, Farigiraf, and Espeon Rematch add Galarian Rapidash Koga: Ace Crobat, Sneasler, Muk, Overqwil, and Weezing Rematch make it Galarian Weezing and add Venomoth Bruno: Ace Machamp, Hitmontop, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Steelix Rematch add Poliwrath Karen: Ace Houndoom, Umbreon, Honchkrow, Weavile, Gengar Rematch add Mega Tyranitar Lance: Ace Dragonite, Charizard, Aerodactyl, Gyarados, Tyranitar, and Lapras Rematch its his shiny Gyarados from the anime in its Mega form.

Morty should have a Ninetails. I remember a pokedex entry saying something about spirits, and it gets some disrupting moves like Roar and Confuse Ray. His final team should be Misdrevus, Ninetails, Haunter, and Gengar. Jasmine should 1 Magnemite, into a Magneton, keep the Steelix, and have either/both Skaromy and Scizor. My opinion on your changes Falkner - Fine Bugsy - Fine Whitney - I don’t like the Miltank changes, it makes her easier and turning down the difficulty is counterintuitive to what she represents, being underestimated. Morty - Just no, I don’t like it completely. I don’t even have a fix, no lie. Chuck - I’m fine with most of it except Poliwrath should be with Chuck since he lives on an island and I believe it has surf so he can leave said island. Jasmine - Fine Pryce - I think Jynx would’ve been a great addition to answer any fighting types because the whole team is weak to fighting. Claire - Her theme is Sea Dragon Master, Lance is Sky. But honestly you did your best. I am a Gen 2 fan, first games I played and I loved it. Gen 2 didn’t give too many good options, with that being said, 7/10, I would play.

I don't agree with changing Morty's type specialty from Ghost to Dark because as the Gym Leader of Ecruteak City, Ghost makes far more sense than Dark. Ecruteak City is home to the Burned Tower, where 3 Pokémon died and were resurrected by Ho-Oh into the Legendary Beasts, so they're basically specters roaming the land. No only that, Ecruteak City represents traditional Japanese culture, so Morty's Pokémon should adhere closer to that theme, so Houndoom is rather out of place in that theme. Misdreavus is based on the nukekubi, which is a yokai whose head detaches from it's body and roams around freely, and yokai are supernatural apparitions in Japanese folklore, so it makes perfect sense for Morty. The only other Ghost types to choose from are from the Gastly line, so to keep the team mostly Ghost, he would need both Haunter and Gengar, but Misdreavus should stay the ace despite having a lower base stat total than Gengar due to being a Gen 2 Pokémon. His last Pokémon should be Ninetales because despite not being a Ghost type, Ninetales is mystical in nature and nine tailed foxes (kitsune) are significant in Japanese folklore, so it's perfect for his team. This way, Morty can stay a Ghost type while also not altering Karen's type specialty as Dark type is perfect for her. Also, I see no good reason for Falkner to not have a Noctowl. You say Noctowl would be too strong for a first gym, but wouldn't Heracross be too strong for a second gym? You proposed Murkrow be Falkner's ace with a base stat total of 405, but then you proposed the very next gym should have a Heracross with a BST of 500. That's quite a leap, don't you think? Not to mention, Bugsy does actually have a Scyther, who also has a BST of 500, so what's so bad about the first gym having a Noctowl, who's BST is 442? That's nothing. Falkner should absolutely have a Noctowl as his ace as well as a Mukrow on his team. Hell, put Pidgeotto on his team too. 3 Pokémon are better than 2 for a Gym Leader. There's nothing wrong with having some Gen 1 Pokémon on the Johto Gym Leader's teams, but the Gen 2 Pokémon should definitely be the stars of their teams. As for Claire, replace the Aerodactyl with a Rhydon. I don't think Aerodactyl, or any fossil Pokémon for that matter, should be shared among trainers in game, and Lance should definitely keep his. Rhydon fits her team as Blackthorn City is carved into a rocky mountain. As for Arcanine, it can stay. It's based on komainu, which are lion-dogs that guard the entrances of gates and shrines, so it could be a guardian for the Dragon's Den.

You know I always thought it'd be fun to give Falkner Gligar instead of murkrow and noctowl and I'd give Bugsy scizor, it's bst is the same and it doesn't change much for the starters other than making cyndiquil stronger. We can then give Heracross to Chuck, that way he has some coverage for psychic types and I feel that it fits in Chucks team better.
@neodica59676 ай бұрын
I'm not so sure about giving Bugsy a Scizor. Its BST may be the same as Scyther's, but I think it'd be unnecessarily difficult for a 2nd gym since it resists so much of the Pokemon that are available to the player by that point. Are there even any fire types besides Cyndaquil before the 2nd gym? And why would Cyndaquil need to be stronger anyway in a region that has a bug, steel, and ice specialist but no ground, rock, or water ones? On a separate note even though I think Heracross, the beetle, matches Bugsy more than Chuck or Bruno, I'd rather reserve it for Bruno since he's an E4 member. It and Poliwrath both have a BST of 500, but Heracross has a much better stat distribution that seems more fitting for the late game.

I believe Gamefreak should have done the Theme with 2 types mechanic for the Johto gym leaders as they did for Kanto's Elite Four. That way more Johto mons can get the spotlight. Falkner: Flying and fast mons? Bugsy: Bug and status heavy mons? Whitney: Normal and cute mons? Morty: Ghost/Dark and sinister mons? Chuck: Fighting and physically strong mons? Jasmine: Steel/Rock and defensive mons? Pryce: Ice and .....? Clair: Dragon and monster looking mons? Maybe if Gamefreak went this route there would be a better balance between the region's mons.

This. I fooking LOVE this idea! It's the exact thought I have too. Give the leaders a "Vibe" rather than type. Even in modern Pokémon games. Monotype teams are too easy to over come. Get a type advantage and you're gucci. Gyms need to be less predictable, especially in the older games where a chunk of the types has less than 10 options (Including pre evolved Pokémon...)

Here is what I would have as the OG teams for Johto gym leaders. Gym leaders can have the same mon for their gym but with a catch. Each repeated mon has to have an entire new moveset , no repeated moves, and it has to be built different i.e. Falkner's Skarmory can be a normal attacker, but Jasmine's Skarmory can only be a Bulky defender or Ulitility....

Falkner giving mud slap instead of a flying move isn't the first time a gym leader gave a move that didn't match the type. Brock in gen 1 gave bide which is a normal type move. Ax Aerodactyl, swap in Lapras for Arcanine. Sure its not 6 pokemon, but if you absolutely -need- a 6th, keep a 2nd Dragonair. Lance has 3 dragonite, so unless you were to plan on swapping his team around ( Gyarados, Charizard, Aerodactyl, Dragonite, Tyranitar, Dragonite ace)

Will- slow king instead of slowbro, girafarig, wobuffet since it’s iconic in the anime and it would be an interesting but difficult battle against non familiar players, espeon since Karen has Umbreon and it would be cool to have the 1st and last elite 4 members having polar opposite Pokémon and finally Xatu. Koga: Muk,wheezing, Ariados, Crobat,

And quilfish, I know these some of these Pokémon are weak but I feel like I’m remakes like hgss and possible future ones I feel like these Pokémon get better in rematches like girafarig being able to evolve know and abilities with quilfish since it has intimate and spikes which could be annoying for players.
Some of these are a bit heavy handed, mostly Falkner and Bugsy. The middle gymleader mods are pretty good.

Falkner: Natu, Hoothoot, Murkrow Bugsy: ledian, butterfree, Heracross (I liked yours more lool) Whitney: clefary, snubble, smoochum, and Milktank Morty: Gastly, Midrevious, Drowsee, Gengar Chuck: hitmontop, primeape, ursaring and Poliwrath Yasmin: loved your team and would keep the exact same Price: delibird (lol), sneasal, jynx piloswine Claire: Gyrados, dragonair x2, lanturn, lapras and kingdra

Great picks! Lanturn on Claire is fun!

Honestly what I would do with morty is Keep his ace gengar, but change his other 3 mons to be Misdreavus, Parasect and Noctowl, all of those fit morty's team so perfectly and for clair since she got that water type pokemon/found in water pokemon with no limbs theme I would go with gyarados and arbok instead of the 2 dragonairs and a Lapras

Oooo, Parasect is a great choice!

You could have made Claire a Water type gym leader. Kingdra, Gyarados, Lapras, Lanturn, Quagsire

should not be nerfing Miltank; the heal and flinch and attract is what made it so good. It should remain untouch

I like the arcanine pick because its based on a "Dragon Dog" of chinese myth. Aerodactyl, i dont like it because i see clair as a water dragon specialist and Lance as a flying dragon specialist. I think either Feraligator works best, but if you really want to avoid starters, then I'd give her a Lapras as it's based on a dinosaour, so it's dragon adgacent plus its super effective to her main weaknesses of grass and dragon.

yeah, in hindsight, Lapras being a Plesi is a great addition.

Leave Whitney's Miltank ALONE. Its already a beast, allow it to continue to poop on kids. Also, just giving her a snubbull instead of a clefairy is enough of a boost to difficulty. For Morty, I have a little solution. Swap him with Chuck, who can use hitmontop at a lower level as his ace better, letting Morty run a higher level Misdreavus as the lead, a haunter and gengar as his ace.

Bugsy having a Heracross would be even easier, with a Pidgeotto or Fearow. 2x weakness.
@neodica59676 ай бұрын
I don't think most players would even have a Pidgeotto or Fearow at that point in the game since they evolve at level 18 and 20 while most of the Pokemon around Azalea Town only go up to level 8. Heracross is also bulkier than Scyther and faster than most of the flying Pokemon that are available at that point anyway, so I don't think it would be _that_ much easier. (also Scyther has a 4x weakness too)

Personally, I would have given Chuck Poliwrarh since he’s on an island and thus probably is near the water more frequently than Bruno. Will the E4 be getting the same treatment?

Maybe Claire should be a water dragon specialist. Whereas lance is a flying dragon specialist.
