Before dropping his flute album in November, Andre 3000 mentioned feeling “too old” to rap at age 48. During Jadakiss’ visit to 7PM in Brooklyn, he kept it real and provided his perspective on 3 Stacks’ opinion. #carmeloanthony #jadakiss #andre3000 #thekidmero

I think rap has to be the only genre of music that people will say you're too old. And a bunch of rappers end up retiring with a ton of good music left on the table. And no one will ever hear it. That sucks.

I actually think being a 40-50 year old rapper who feels like he doesn’t belong anymore is a topic to write music about. I would be surprised if he is setting us up for that type of rap album. We need our legends to address that stigma.

Even if he doesn’t want to rap anymore, he could still make incredible music with his vocal presence expressing himself. I think most of the public disappointment comes from the fact that it’s an all instrumental album that’s basically meditation music lol not that he doesn’t specifically rap on it. People just want to hear his voice & its vocal expression in some form.

I remember slowly fading away from Nas when I started to understand his style. Even then he’s still legendary and Illmatic is arguably the best rap album of all time. But I felt like he threw away the formula with “life is good” in 2012 and as an adult that became by favorite nas album ever. It just felt he threw away all the mystique and got real and I finally had a Nas album I could depend on for whatever I was going through

People forget that Andre been looking outside of Rap for inspiration. He worked with Cartoon Network for two seasons for Class of 3000 - he gave those an album worth of music that HE wrote and produced - then did the voices so the actors can know what to do on the record. He was in his Jimi Hendrix bag for a hot minute too - those last two Outkast albums were basically solo records - that were NOT rap. Especially The Love Below. Let Dre do his thing and if he ever want to get his head back to rapping I KNOW Killer Mike can guide him on how to get it done in this day and age.

There will be no second mastery. He will just be frustrated. That flute thing was trash…and not because it is the flute. It’s because he is not good at it. As a community, we miss the ultimate point of EVERYTHING. He could have been a part of a movement that FINALLY put an end to the ‘too old’ thing that ONLY exists in the Blk community. Rock stars can be eighty. Wht stars can do whatever they want for as along as they want, but we have put time limits on everything. It’s tragic how we do not see that we are our worst enemy, at this point. We don’t think communally. We don’t think we owe our community…the kids..the future anything. We believe we can just take…and not return the investment that was given. Other communities see that. There is no way the Rolling Stones who are EIGHTY, still get along…haven’t had huge rifts….HOWEVER…they still tour and make a few hundred million right quick to further solidify their kids’ kids’ kids’ kid’s futures. We don’t get that. It’s a shame.

And though I would love-more than anyone- for Andre to come out with some more rap shit, or hook back up with Big Boi, if his heart isn't in it... Point is that it's hard to say inelegant/positive things to rap culture /rap fans. If a rapper who is older wants to keep rapping he's going to have to consider 2 things #1 Do I add to the problem / make negative music. Or number #2 do I try to make music that goes against what rap culture is dependent upon destrutive aka genocida musicl/negative music.

I respect his decision but I think some rappers will always have something to say or contribute to hiphop. You can evolve as a musician but don’t think your audience just suddenly only listens to gospel & jazz overnight. Just adapt and stay relevant, like Nas.

The fact that they both were born in the exact same day is truly mind-blowing! 2 of the best MCs of their times. It should be a holiday or something. Speaking on the topic, I think that Andre only shared his perspective. At the moment, he just don't feel like rapping anymore. He found other ways to express himself. I respect the question and even more so the answer, it's good that we still care and remember about him, but I think that we should stop talking about his personal reasons and reflections on art, just enjoy what he's done for the culture and let him do his sh^t. I believe that the more we talk about why he left, is it "forever-forever-ever-forever-ever?" and is there any chance for maybe another Outkast or his first full LP rap solo album, the less chances we have to experience it. Andre's already proved that he's not to be forced with his creative process and HE DON"T OWE US SH*T. One of the last who stood true to himself. I know it's hard, but maybe we should just let him be?

Hip hop is wack AF now. It got sold out and doesn't mean anything to the truebreeds. It is what it is. Next time please stop letting ppl who don't care, infiltrate and leave your ppl breadless and hopeless once again. Its DONE. Keep the creativity underground if needed in efforts to heal and rebuild. It has to be something new and protected from corruption. Money, status, and clout cannot be the agenda or end goal. You heard it here but still won't listen 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️✊🏾💜

40 & 50 should mean you have growth and knowledge to put out there showing what longevity looks like. Show people what it looks like to stay true to the art, because your fans are still out here ready to consume. I’ve been seeing an influx of a lot of youngsters commenting on KZbin videos of 90’s music the past couple of years as well, talking about how much they like it and wish they were around in them days. They don’t like this new stuff as much either! It all sounds the same and has no message. So I see no reason for the older rappers to stop!

2:58 "(They) trying to genocide the culture" why is everyone else responsible for what rap culture does. He's giving them a victim card for their own actions and behavior. The culture is genocidal for whatever reason it is but to say (they) is creating a enemy out of thin air simply to distance the participants in the genocidal behavior from their own behavior. "(They) made us go against each other" naw that's just something y'all do and people are from different regions of the country saying (they) makes little sense if any because (they /aka sympathy seekers) make statements to where responsibility is in the hands of some distant inconspicuous group that (they) are the victim of. Then it turns out that (they) are the (they) that (they're) talking about. All (they) have to do is take responsibility for their own actions and (they) can have a better community. It's quite simple but you got rappers who promote the destruction of their own people for profit so the next new few rappers (From their respective regions can pass on the genocidal mindset and the old heads can blame others for not fixing the problem (they) handed the last generation.) can have something to talk about. (It's a matter of putting progression over profits but rap music profits from promoting the genocide of the primary group that listens to it)

Im a listener - i get tired of hearing guys talk the aame shit they have been spitting for decades. Some rappers cant talk about anything else than the same shit they have been talking about, and it is starting to show as we age. It gets repetitive, and then it just becomes... stagnant.

The industry is the cause of age set on hip hop. They know artist get wiser as they get older. Artist get more understanding and information as they get older. Artist are more liable to speak their mind and speak truth as they get older. Artist are more concerned with more important issues in life as they get older. And with hip hop being the most influential genre of music they have to attach the age limit to keep it the way they want it.

Naw forget what Andre talking about. If you are musically uninspired and can't make a great rap album just say so. NaS released 6 albums in the last 3 years. 3 of the 6 albums people are arguing if they are in his top 5-10 albums. To do that at 50 years old is saying alot. Dre ain't got love for hip-hop anymore which is fine but i do believe we hold him in too high regard for somebody that's never really made a true solo hip-hop album.

Each generation of artists/fans is going to feel "at what point am I culturally relevant"? Like most that grow up in the 80s-2000s, we seen how hip hop got commercialized and how it is now where is streaming and views vs album sales. Do we still feel the same attachment to todays music vs the ones we know and grew up with. The thing about the artists from the older generation, I feel their music is deep and has meaning. It's not a quick money grab, social media clout, insta fame BS. A lot of music is so superficial now that it's just another song that gets played and forgotten. A lot of Andre 3000 songs are timeless.
