Mine get watered so infrequently....maybe once a month or two...and don't seem to suffer. They are the most un-fussy succulent. Also if you water with hard water super tiny white spots may cover your leaves...kinda like icing sugar sprinkles...all perfectly normal.

I have a black thumb and have never been into plants, but for some reason I felt compelled to buy a little jade plant and now I'm a 'plant Papa'. lol Thank you for this great video, I learned so much and I really appreciate you sharing your expertise so freely. My big question is, How do I keep it warm in Winter? Even inside the house, at night it gets quite cold (I live in Canada). I don't want it to die, so how do I keep it warm during nights that are in the single digits Celcius?

Yay jade plants are pretty cool! As long as your home is comfortable for you, your plant should probably be okay. You could always keep it more in the interior of your house if you're worried about temperatures. Or even get a small heat mat

Hello! I’m house-sitting a jade plant for my friend and I was wondering if I could add some orchid bark to the soil mix, on top of the perlite, for aeration and drainage? I can’t find horticultural sand in my area, or any gardener sand that’s not breaking my bank and a humongous bag 😂 I have a cactus mix but it sucks and the soil has been so moist for so long 😭

Oh no! Yeah orchid bark and perlite should help if you can't find sand. Pretty much anything to make it stop staying super wet would be better I'm sure

my jade, I feel like, it tripled in height in 3 years since I've had it, but, I don't think it's trunk got much girth, maybe by a half of what it was. I would be shocked if it were more - no way of knowing for sure now. It also experienced series of "unfortunate accidents". It spent 3 summers now outside, and first year it experienced no issues w that, but in following years it had some leaves (at least I think those are counted as leaves) scorched (from the middle of the leaf, but on the bottom side, so it's hard to notice and act upon protecting it) so it lost some leaves due to that, and more notably, I had a pillow (a freaking pillow) fall over it, and shear all of it's leaves on one side. so now, like at least half of those nodes where leaves were lost are showing new growth, presumably new branches to be. all the while it's trunk is no wider than my finger. it never had much of a root system, and until few days ago, it was in second tiniest pot. I now upgraded it one pot size. it came out from the old pot with soil in one peace, but no root structures visible, I simply needed to upgrade the pot, cause it spent entire summer trying to topple over. and last night as I was watering them, I noticed it was bending over like it's confusing earth with the sun. I have no idea how to make her stand up straight cause it's too big for it's tiny trunk, and small roots, heavy pot doesn't help - putting support, I tried putting sticks, but it wiggles away from them, I have now fixed her up with little plant ladder, but I don't like that, I specifically remember it also losing some leaves due to just touching nearby pots, so, if it keeps touching the ladder, that will be more leaves lost. and each leaf lost, means possibility of new branch popping out - it can't sustain so many branches I didn't up-pot it due to root system being overgrown, I up-potted it in hopes that bigger, heavier terracotta pot would help with it's leaning urge, nope I know it may sound like it's toppling onto the side where new branches are growing, the side it got sheared off by a pillow - that's not it, it wobbles every which way, and most of those new "branches" are tiny at this point definitely wouldn't be enough to topple it if not for other issues. and besides, not all incoming branches are on the same side, like, knowing new branches are coming from nodes that lost their leaves, you'd assume that it lost leaves randomly, it doesn't look like it favors one side over the other. it's toppling cause of trunk being too weak, and root system being relatively small - it's toppling altogether with the root system, like a gold fish trying to jump out of the bowl. And when I say it wobbles, it's fine, it's not mushy or anything, it's healthy, it just grew the things that make it topple over instead of growing things that would help her support itself any advice what I could do to make her thicken up, I love that plant, it was one of my first, first fancy one for sure, I suppose I could cut her down to where it can stand straight but it would kill me to do that... any advice, someone must have had similar experience, how to help her help me help her?

Hi! I’m a new subscriber and I found your channel because I’m looking for help for my Jade plant. I’ve had it for years and it propagates profusely, but the original “Mother Plant” isn’t doing so well. It has more of a miniature tree appearance with a thick trunk and branches. Unfortunately, I had been hospitalized a few years ago and my plants were neglected for a few months. The Jade survived and still shoots up babies all around the main plant, but the main tree has dropped most of it’s leaves and most of its branches. Where the branches dropped, it scabbed over. I’m wondering if I should cut it all the way down and remove the whole trunk and then hopefully it’ll grow back, but my dad told me to just leave it alone because he thinks it’ll totally destroy or kill it if I cut it down. I can send you pictures if you’d like to see it, but I’d appreciate any advice you have as to what to do to revive it back to it’s beautiful glory. Thank you in advance! 🙏🏻💜

it wouldn't be my ideal. These ones like to dry out a lot so having the constant source of water in a self watering pot would probably be too much

I have a jade plant, it's kind of gross brown /crusty looking in places.. Don't know why, bugs I think. I propagated one leaf, thats doing great.. I got rid of the bugs but the early leaves are also kind of crusty looking! I have another plant that I thought was a type of jade plant?? (lots of smaller, same sized leaves), but that's just floppy, it's leaves easily fall off.. Its in the window with the most light, but just flops all over regardless! I'm tempted to chop it.. But I don't know! Don't even know what it is tbh.. Which would be a start!
@GoodGrowing3 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's a shame. It sounds like cosmetic damage from previous pests which isn't ideal. There's another type of jade plant with finger shaped leaves instead of paddles. Doesn't really sound like what you've got. If you send me a picture on IG, i may be able to help identify it?
@nnnnn16103 жыл бұрын
@@GoodGrowing thank you, that's really, really kind of you I appreciate it:) I had a Google last night.. It looks like a mini Jade? still not sure tbh (I may send you a photo, again, thank you x).. I have pruned it today, it might be a little early but it looked like it was about to snap, so I went for it! Fingers crossed :) With regards to the other Jade plants I think it's sunburn on one of them (I watched a few more videos), on the other it looks like a mix of overwatering and pests.. Overall though that ones got new really shiny growth which is cool.. I did have a few green lacewings and they seemed to be doing a good job, one of them has died though.. Haven't seen the other in a few days, but its prompted me to look into that as pest control :) Really enjoying learning more, videos like yours and how much you enjoy it /what you know kind of spur me on - so TY x

lol, the reason I like terracotta is cause it's the cheapest way to make all pots look uniform. as for soil, we really don't have much choice here, you can't just go into a store and by perlite, or moss, or whatever. you can find regular potting soil, orchid mix, some citrus mix at exorbitant price, like wtf, and cacti mix is preposterous. you can find some of the other things online, but even if they're not too expensive, the post is too expensive, and so, in average household you'll see all manner of plants growing in exactly the same soil - unless it's straight from the grower, when they might be in different types of soil before you repot them - I never had particular issues with soil being same for them all, you just water some things more frequently and others less, you can't just go and water everything at the same time. it is what it is. it makes re-potting really easy tho. the only plant type I had issues with, with that soil, were alocasias, but I followed, I think your advice, and I now have them in leca. oh yeah, I found leca or some similar product in a diy store, that's like the fanciest thing we have that's not regular soil...
