This was brilliant. A real treat to watch. I think this was a really original example of dressage. But it would have been immeasureably better if we hadn't got that blasted irritating commentator constantly going on and on, just stating the blindingly obvious. At about 49 seconds the commentator says "the music is so Becky, so fantastic, so jolly upbeat". Oh, thank you, I could hear the music for myself. I don't really need a commentator to tell me that the music is "jolly upbeat". Oh, if she hadn't said that I would have thought I was listening to a funeral dirge. I'd never have guessed that the music was "jolly upbeat" if a commentator hadn't told me. At about 1:25 she says "technically the horse is looking good, you really get the feeling that she's riding to the music". For heaven's sake, she is an Olympic dressage rider, of course she's riding to the music. That's the whole point. Just as I get to enjoy the music and watching the performance, the commentator says something that is so absolutely obvious, as if I cannot see for myself. Next thing you'll be telling me that the horse has got four legs. Why oh why oh why do television companies have to have these commentators going on and on stating the glaringly obvious. Whay can't we just have an Olympic coverage where we can just watch the athletes performing, and make up our own minds about what's going on?

Well, I you were to sit down and observe young foals playing or stallions (and mares) trying to intimidate each other in the wild, you would see them do the exact same movements. It’s not something that the riders teach them to do as such, they “only” teach them to do it on command and on purpose. Like when a dog is being taught to “sit” for a treat. If this horse hated it, it would have had its ears pinned down to the head, its tail would have been swishing all around and it would have been truly uncomfortable to watch. This horse was relaxed, had its ears forward and enjoyed working with the rider.
