Please remember that it can be risky to update firmware early and unless you can afford to be without your camera should there be an issue it's probably worth waiting a few days to see if any problems emerge for those that are happy to take the plunge.

Totally agree, but I'm a "beta tester" with backup cams so I have no hesitation upgrading. No issues. Seems most of them are coming from people who aren't following the upgrade path on the firmware release.

Great video! Remember that even though 180 degree shutter angle is correct for true 24p and for 23.98p in countries that are 60hz power. But in Europe where power is 50hz, it is important to use 172.8 shutter angle as to minimize practical lights flickering due to hz mismatch. Cheers!

Thats a huge update. After 20 years working with different professional cameras , I still sometimes lose some clips because I foquing forgot to change the shutter speed between different frame rates.

I have the FX30. Before I updated it, I had it set in 4K DCI mode. I only use SD cards with my FX30. But, after the update and my camera rebooted, suddenly a popup appeared telling me that I cannot record in 4K DCI unless I use a CF Express card. Strange since I was recording in 4K DCI onto SD cards before the update. Sounds like another update is needed.

Does updating the firmware mess up your custom button settings? Also, what about the new 709 tone? Is that a totally new PP mode just like the S-Cinetone or what? What do you think of that and how does it compare to other modes?

Updating didn’t reset the camera so no it doesn’t change custom m buttons. 709 tone I haven’t tried yet as I’m generally shooting in log. The I’ll get back to you on that one.

This is a GAME CHANGER. Shutter angle is absolutely the best feature. But #2 has to be wired Monitor & Control connection. My HDMI port crapped out on me earlier this year, so the only way I could get an external monitor is through the Wifi/Bluetooth connection in the app without paying over $1200 to Sony for a new motherboard. Unfortunately with the wireless connections, there is lag so wasn't very useful for Run'n'Gun shooting. Now the app has imperceptible lag, and I can use the awesome screen on my iPhone as my external monitor with all the camera controls I need. I do miss being able to use my SmallHD 7" Bright though.

It was pulled due to a bug with a7r series. Nothing with fx3, just a precaution. It's fine.

Exactly, people freaking out when Sony is just being careful which is actually a good thing. It is 100% an A7R series bug. Not even an A7S bug which would probable affect the FX3 due to the same motherboard/sensor/etc

Already found a glitch with the update on my FX30, when you point to an underexposed area and switch to auto shutter then switch back to manual shutter, the shutter angle keeps blinking

Is it because the image is under exposed? I'll need to try it but I seem to recall the settings would blink when they cant adjust any further in auto modes.

You can't use auto shutter and shutter angle at the same time, it's 2 separate ways of controlling the exposure. It's either ANGLE or SHUTTER SPEED mode. If you need auto exposure (don't do that) then use auto ISO. But don't do that, it's a terrible way to shoot.

I have a problem perhaps you might know the answer. I can only enable shutter angle when recording externally to an Atomos at 1080 60fps. And must have recording internally enabled too. I can't find a way to record 4k 60fps externally with shutter angle :(

I've read you have to record internally at the same time in certain modes like SLOG if you're going to a Ninja V or similar, but not sure if that applies to all codecs.

This video should come with a warning that says updating your FX3 may result in permanently destorying it. everyone who was lucky to enough to successfully update it to the last firmware had their cameras crippled by having options like NTSC grayed out (I think that's what it's called) as well as other settings i dont recall. Some also said that their fx3 started losing focus and started overheating when it never has before. Sony is charging KZbinrs $700 to fix any fx3 that bricked itself during an update. I would seriously take caution before updating the fx3 and ask yourself if potentially destroying your camera is worth the small performance bump. Some argue that they first 3 updates made no noticeable difference to its performance yet comes with so much risk.

I haven't updated my fx3 yet so no it was not destroyed however I've seen a few screenshot of emails between fx3 owners and sonys customer support to acknowledge it's an ongoing issue.

I haven't streamed since covid, but I had no issues using my FX3 as a webcam and livestreaming. Is that an issue? I did it through USB-C using the PC connection option.

I will not upgrade my firmware until I know for sure Sony wil make themselves responsible if anything goes wrong with the upgrade. I have seen enough horror stories of cameras becoming bricks after the upgrade and Sony will not take responsibility.

Read the EULA, Sony, (and to be fair, all camera manufacturers) will NOT make themselves responsible if a FW update bricks your camera. You update FW at your own risk and if Sony messed it up, you're on your own. I don't do FW updates if a camera is stable and reliable. The risk simply isn't worth it when I use my cameras to earn a living.

@@israelgil it's working for me, maybe the Setup > USB > USB Power Supply setting got turned off in the update. My USB C port is working for both charging and control/monitoring with the 6.0 update. That being said, even before the update, I've never successfully powered the camera with no battery in the battery compartment. When powering via v-mount > USB port, it charges the battery when the camera is off, but while the camera is running it only seems to prolong the battery life-which is weird. For that reason, I've switched to powering the FX3 via D-tap to dummy battery and using my USB port for camera control/monitoring.
