Welcome to my first tutorial on an X-Type modification.
Here I show you how to create your own open intake filter mod, the parts required and how to maximise the positive impact on your car's performance.
A lot of people call it a "hot air intake" due to the assumption it sucks in engine bay air, which makes total sense really if you think about it. However, in this video I'll show you measurements which demonstrate how the inlet air temperature changes with the install as well as removing the intake trumpets.
Although negligible, any improvement in intake air temperature and mass air flow through the car is beneficial and the science behind this is all done using the same sensors, programme and ambient temperatures.

Well done! It's pleasant to see that the intake air temperature hasn't increased, nevertheless with a cone filter your MAF sensor surely requires cleaning more often. As for me, I would add a third air duct to the intake nozzles of an OEM filter or even cut the lower part of the OEM airbox. Cheers!

@@user-cd8gr9iq7d I mean remove the trumpets and enlarge the hole for trumpets to the left. Maybe cut the front half of the airbox bottom as well. This would allow me using the OEM disposable airfilter.

[ I, own a 2004, x type 3.0 jaguar with a British Racing green and tan leather interior. Awd this, will be my next investment the open air filter instead of the factory air box. I'm. going to buy the K&N air filters.

Sounds great! Like a really throaty roar and you can hear each cylinder on the V6. Once I work out a good place to mount the camera to pick up the intake I'll put up a new video and link it here.

Can we get a sound test? I would love to know what it sounds like with modified exhaust too....mine had the magnaflow back boxes with my cold air in the intake box and was rather quiet. Good to know now that I was restricting performance 🤦🏻‍♂️

As soon as you're moving at significant speed you'll begin to see a drop in temperature but it'll be interesting to recreate this experiment in the heat of summer and see how it compares.

My X Type is a 2005. I thought it was missing the engine cover but you said pre 2005 has it. So why did Jag do away with the nice cover?

It was one of the ways Ford decided to save a bit of cash on each build.

Not sure if your gonna read this or not but I've just ordered everything on this video to give it a try I'm just wondering how you made the little clamp as gonna need to do that also.

Absolutely I read these. Do you mean the stand off support bracket? That's a length of metal flat bar with a 90mm p-clip bolted to it. All in stainless. It was an afterthought so wasn't particularly well planned. -Anthony

Why would you want to reverse the mod? To make the car quieter.
