Jaguar XE 2015 Electrical Problem

Whilst driving the 1st point I noticed an issue was when the lights around the centre console which light the temp and switches went out. They came back on about 30 mins after when I stopped my car, turned it off and then back on. However it is now parked in my drive and it has gone completely flat. I parked in reverse which I probably shouldn`t have as the battery is in the boot.

Hi BLT, Yes all this was caused by a flat battery, Jaguar roadside assistance came out next morning checked everything over and was puzzled, he ran a check on the battery and was convinced the battery was at fault as it was holding the charge just under the correct level. All I remember was the garage said it was the battery and we have fixed it, sorry I can`t remember if they changed anything, more than sure it`s still the same battery. Maybe just bad contact or changed a wire. So when you mention this to the garage tell them to check to see if the battery is holding it`s charge, please let me know if this has helped, good luck, hope your still under warranty.

BLT been to jaguar today for different work but I asked what the report said from the electrical problem I had, I was told all that came from SOFTWARE failure. The report said they uninstalled and then re-installed software. So battery was fine.

@@chrisl8981 No, it was not serious. They said the software that controls all the electrics and entertainment system had an issue. It was detecting electral failure somewhere on the car, as it happens there was a wire trapped by the front console/dashboard which would have been done from manufactering time. This caused some issue with the system detecting an electrical problem, in turn cutting down some electrical parts of the car it wont need full control of, ie the lights inside the car started to dim down, this was trying to save electric as it obviously knew the battery was running low. I just got my car in the driveway, stopped it then when i tried to start again this is what happened as you see in the video. Sorry for my late response.

It had turned out that the software was faulty and battery was fine.

I solved the issue for this on my Xe. In the boot in front bottom of the battery you will see an outlet for a tow hitch. This must be cleaned thoroughly and waterproofed. WD 40 a brush & some electrical tape worked for me. Tape it to the top of the box. Look for a grommet on the floor of the boot under the spare. Puncture this to allow water out faster and avoid this section of the boot filling with water. This immediately and permanently fixed this in my first edition Xe.

Thank You for your help. Hopefully it comes in handy for someone one day. I changed my XE for an XF a little while from this upload. Lovely cars but maybe I was unlucky but Jaguar customer service where I purchased mine was terrible. They had excuse after excuse every time I had issue, even though I was always under warranty.

It was a fairly tricky fix, you have to know water is filling the boot and the metal in the hitch outlet has been corroded. This is what leads to the electrical failure. I'm lucky I have nothing better to do than tinker. The boys in the Jaguar garage never even wanted to hear how I fixed it.
