BEARDS 'n CARS

Күн бұрын

To this day the Jaguar XFR was one of the most pleasant surprises I've had while filming Beards 'n Cars, so much so that it even earned the vehicle my car of the year award in 2020. Ever since then I've wanted to get my hands on this - the XFRS.
The badder, meaner, more powerful and vicious evolution of the already superb supercharged V8 platform certainly makes an impression before you even turn its wheels in anger. But now that I've actually driven it, does the bright blue beast live up to expectations, and crucially - is it worth 3-4 times the price of an XFR? Let's find out...

XFR owner here. My daily driver 😀 Can take an XFR to 650bhp for under £3k, no brainer really. Nice to waft around in comfort but then do the 0-60 in less than 4 seconds when the mood takes.

Hi, a great review that I totally agree with. For me it is the saloon over the Sport-brake every time! I have a 2015 XFR-S which I have owned for 7 ½ years now and absolutely love it. Before I bought it I drove the XFR and XFR-S back-to-back and preferred the XFR-S as it just felt more nimble. The changes over the XFR are small- but many - I believe the steering rack in the XFR-S is the one used on the F-Type R as is the rear suspension which meant Jaguar had to re-fabricate the floor-pan to accommodate the F-Types sub-frame hence there being a hump in the saloons boot-floor that other XFs don’t have. During my ownership the car has been very reliable (touch wood…), at the year-one service an oil leak was spotted on the differential (the seal is a common issue I was told) and in year-2 one of the rear parking sensors failed - both items fixed via warranty and apart from that it has just been annual servicing and tyres. Servicing prices are very low for such fast car if you book via jaguars 3+ scheme for older cars - the last year-7 service was £291 and next years 8th service will be £438 which I think is good. For tyres I have kept to the same Pirelli P-Zeros that came with the car from new as Jaguar say in the sales brochure that these have been specially developed for the car (the sales blurb says the car runs wider rims compared to the tyre width to “pre-Load the side walls” ) - the rears have been lasting about 17-18,000 miles and the front about 22,000 miles each time so not too bad. For me it is the ultimate Jag- whilst I would love the All-wheel drive of an F-Type SVR (as the XFR-S can be a little lively in the wet at low temperatures) - the practicality and comfort of the XFR-S wins for me.

Awesome! Glad to hear its a good runner in the long term. The sharper steering mentioned definitely threw me off compared to the XFR, and the feeling of the RS being 'on' all the time would steer me more toward the R as a daily I think. I like a more lazy muscle approach

Glad to see you finally got to drive the xfr-s. Interesting that it seems like a completely different car to the xfr. I remember your review on the modern xjr and that it should have been called a xjrs. Would you take the xjr over this or vice versa, as they are very similar in price. Top review as always 👍🏾

Cheers dude, and yeah this was a top 10 priority for BnC. Between the two I’d have to go XFR-S I think, for the added visual wow factor over the very understated XJ

Great review as always, it’s you that’s got me hankering for an XFR😁Totally agree with you about the price, it’s a stunning but 4 times as stunning🤔I can’t see it, I must ask why didn’t you review the XF SV8 the supercharged 4.2, I know you love that engine and you love the XF, just thought it would have been right up your street.

Yeah I most likely will review one at some point, just haven't got around to it tbh. I want to feature the XJ 5.0 as well, the 'real' XJR

Has it got Bluetooth music streaming? I know the XKRS doesn’t have and leaning more towards this to be honest.
