I have owned a XFR for over 5 years. It is easily the best car I have ever owned. It is one of the best I have ever driven. The steering feel is better than everything except an old 911 or a Aston Martin V12 Vantage. The power is better than anything in it's class. Why? because the engine has a mountain of torque with no lag. It has a special variable cam system that can go from 32mpg cruise cam to race car engine cam in 5 milliseconds. Even better the ZF quickshift transmission has a locking torque converter in ALL SIX GEARS. Without downshifting you can pass people before they have a chance to react to close the gap. It is so enjoyable and effortless; true luxury to drive stress free ebbing and flowing as you please and not being cockblocked by whomever. It can remember all the shifts you requested and jump multiple gears on agressive deceleration and has 200millisecond shifts. Speaking of decel, the brakes are 380mm and the best and cheapest to maintain out of all its competitiors. AMG63 brake rotor is $1000.00+/per rotor. M5 is $1000.00+/per rotor. Same for the RS Audi. You can buy replacement rotors AND pads on ALL 4 corners for under $300 for the XFR. Speaking of the maintaince cost, If you look up a water pump (wear item on any lux car) for a M5, AMG63, RS6 blah blah is $700+ parts cost. You can buy a XFR water pump for $68. That theme follows on all the parts. They are not expensive compared to the performance sedans. XFR is not only the cheapest to buy, but miles cheaper to maintain by a factor of 10x than any AMG or M or RS. The best part about this engine tuned with upper and lower pulley, Arden headers/x-pipe/75mm dual varex exhaust you can break 700HP with this engine and because the XFR is lighter and bests them on drag cd than the M, AMG and RS will walk them. It has a better drag cd than any AMG, M or RS @ .27 for prefacelift and .31 for the XFRS. Tuning wise, the ZF6HP28 transmission in the Jag is internally the exact same transmission as the Ford 6R80 in the Mustang, and subsequently you can use all the billet parts for the 6R80 to build the 6 sp in the earlier 09-11 XFR to handle 1600+HP. The 8sp in the 2012-2015 is not buildable. So this car can take you from mild to wild. It has been more reliable than either one of my two V8 Lexuses and my 4Runner Ltd. I went over 5 years with the only money being spent on oil changes and a $28 trans cooler hose from the dealer. I just recently went through the car and did a bunch of preventative maintaince in Feb. Runs like a scalded cat. Still looks beautiful. Still makes my heart beat faster, and I still look forward to driving it everytime. I'll sell all my other cars before I sell this.

I’ve heard these are reliable which blows my mind (in a good way). Jaguars and Range Rovers were long known to be temperamental bastards. The AJV8 is a bulletproof masterpiece. The XF Supercharged and XFR are starting to sound like the perfect all around car with very little downsides. Any M5 or AMG is great with HUGE downsides (cost to own).

My own aspirations were much more modest, but I completely understand the rationale. I was after an XF in either Portfolio or Premium Luxury trim, and at the right price. I always said I would know the right car when I saw it, and so it turned out to be. It has full main dealer service history, 125 k on the clock, in Vapour Grey with cream interior (at my wife's insistence to match our young Labrador). It is powered by the 3.0 litre V6 Diesel 245 BHP and that returns around 60 MPG at motorway speeds, and 40 MPG around town, provided I can keep it moving). Although not the most powerful incarnation, it's still a handful if booted in anger. I liken it to being fired out of a Roman catapult. And such quality for well under 5 grand is crazy. That is less than half of the money garages wanted for a deposit on some other things I've looked at, without the crippling depreciation. Oh, and there's not a mark on it. The car looks and drives like a two-year-old, and it's a very pretty thing to look at. There's an old saying, when you walk away from a car, if you don't turn and look back at it, it's the wrong car. Having had new cars for the past 20 years, I couldn't be more satisfied with my old Jag

It's used for the school run, for the commute (back when we commuted) and took me on an amazing road trip to Scotland last year. It's a glorious machine!

@@HSGAutomotive I was fortunate enough to drive both XKR and XFR at Jag's Gaydon track a couple of times, and adore the XKR. But I was coming from a coupe before, and wanted something a bit bigger. I'm a drummer and a dad, and being able to fit both daughter and gear whilst poling around at speed was appealing. I probably could have managed with a XKR, but once the extra pennies were factored in, I decided on the saloon. I also considered the Audi S6 V10 wagon (too ugly and with a not great gearbox) and the Maserati Quattroporte (terrified of the potential maintenance costs). I don't regret my choice. I've had mine for over 5 years now - mostly as a second car. I've had some of the common issues - the temperamental A/C one being particularly annoying - but it's been good overall. Glad I went with the Jag though rather than a M5 - to me a V8 is the best engine as it just rumbles away at low revs, as mentioned in the video. It seems that engine tone gets deeper the more cylinders you have - until you go past 8 cylinders, when the engine note turns upwards again. And most of the 10+ cylinder engines only seem to sound good when they're being thrashed - the V8 in the XFR just sounds good all the time :-)

The look of frustration must have been magnificent when in the dark he must have thought it was a Mazda 6 up his 3 chuffs. That’s what was perfect about it. So unassuming in the looks dept. 50 to 70 in kick down took 1.9 seconds according to various magazines. V impressive........the then current RS6 Took 2 seconds longer at 3.9. Loved it. Buy one.

I just bought a black 2011 XFR this week on the auction site Cars and Bids without ever driving one based on your commentary about this one. I could not believe the value per dollar for what you get spec wise. I’ve loved the style since I first saw the new ones on the Lincoln Jaguars Dealers lot in 2011 when we were picking up my wife’s 2011 AWD Lincoln MKS, unfortunately not the turbo Ecoboost. Back then I really didn’t look at the mechanical specs because at $80,000 it was not something that was not remotely in my budget at the time so until recently I never took the time to research them. I needed a 4 door that would replace three cars I own, the Lincoln MKS(a fine looking reliable car for 130k miles just boring to drive), my 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero with tuned V6 turbo and an 2006 LS2 automatic GTO/Holden Monaro (I have 3 including a Supercharged and a twin turbo both 6 speeds) so I was looking at all the super sedans the last couple of months of the 2010-2013 vintage almost buying a Maserati Quattroporte, an AMG CLS 63, an M5 and a CTS-V2 all well over twice the money that I just paid for the XFR. The closest contender for me was the CTS-V since I can easily work on those and am already familiar with the drivetrain and a number of friends have them but I have never cared for the angular styling and there are a lot of them around where I live. The ability to change a pulley and add a tune and be at or above the of the power levels of those for a $1000 is appealing. I cannot wait for it to arrive.

@@HSGAutomotive Was it really a year since I posted that?! Well, I'm now almost in a position to buy one, my dream car. £12-16k on a car doesn't sound like a lot of money to many people but it's about double the amount I've ever paid for a car before in 20+ years of driving. I'm within touching distance of being able to walk up and buy my dream car with cash (no loan needed since my last post) and have a few quid set aside for tyres and fuel. With another child on the way, I've been telling the missus about how good the isofix system is in these XFRs (of course she can see right through me). I'm so very nearly there...

On a separate note, while I like the style of your vids very much and there's nothing wrong with the camera scenes on you driving, I think a 80:20 mix of forward facing (over bonnet bulge) footage would be (overall) more enjoyable from a car enthusiast perspective - i.e. focused on the car driving experience rather than the driver. :-) I also think the vids could be a little shorter in length without being annoyingly quick and dirty like some. Great cars and content overall though dude. :-)

@@HSGAutomotive I'm crazy about my XK-R. It's one of few cars I've owned which has brought multiple compliments. Another is my venerable X-308, There isn't a bad angle on that old beauty. There's an antipathy to Jags among the Mutti Merkel Metall brigade, who insist Coventry cats are all unreliable. If you speak to hardcore mechanics, as I have for an article I'm writing for the JEC magazine, you find that these days Merc cars, as opposed to vans, are extremely unreliable. There are several BMW models with serious problems you never read about in the motoring press. I chuckled when a US lorry driver told me the most towed make in America is - you guessed it - BMW. The worst car I've ever travelled in was a week old Audi A3. It was so uncomfortable I was on pain-killers for two weeks. I ain't kidding. The seats were appallingly designed and the dash so impenetrably difficult to fathom that the driver was shouting in frustration.

You know that the chasis of that car is in fact the same as the S-type R (STR), right? It was not until the new style headlights that the XFR changed to a new chasis. In any case, the engine and the gearbox is better than in the STR, BUT for many Jaguar enthusiasts it has lost the uniqueness of style that Jaguar had, in fact if you change the badge on the XFR it could be any other brand. True that the STR lost also some of the Jaguar styling even though they tried to recreate the classic MK2... if I ever change the STR it would be for an XFR for the better engine and gearbox, although I'm a bit put off by the lack of Jaguar styling. Good review though!
@HSGAutomotive3 жыл бұрын
I've reviewed the STR, didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much. And yes I am aware, just as the X100 shares underpinnings with its predecessor also.
