This Jaguar XJ is the most beautiful luxury sedan ever made. Congrats from Portugal.

I bought an XJ portfolio two years ago and still love the car. The 3ltr diesel makes driving effortless and a pure pleasure. The power is incredible for an oil burner with suprising economy. So much more stylish than the German competition and less common!

Have had the car three years, one problem, needed to replace the small battery. Two batteries located in the boot, one is the main car battery the other specific to the stop/start feature, that is the one I replaced, cost £80 and all is well with the stop/start since. Other than that I have an intermittent fault with a rear door lock. The car is a 2013 and has covered 54k miles. In my mind a very reliable car.

No idea on the price for replacement of main battery, but smaller battery cost £80. In 2015 Jag uprated the poer to 296bhp, not much gained on performance but better fuel economy. I take mine to an independent garage, Jag too expensive. I love my XJ, hope you have a good experience.

i have driven jaguars for 30 years, my daily is a 2017 xjr sport, and its the best jaguar i have owned by a long way the winter driving dynamics with the awd are amazing i also own a s111 xj 12 and an xjs v12 , and ithought i was a traditional jaguar man but this 2017 is superior in every way, its the best car i have ever driven and am thinking of getting another and putting it away for the future so i dont have to drive a bloody suv , that are the only thing jaguar sell now i have tried them and they are awful jaguar finally built a quality world class high tech car and they stopped making it !!!, it beggers belief

Just traded in my 350 xj6 petrol with 132000 miles, no major issues, for a 351 v6 supercharged. This is an amazing car, more economical, much more power, same road tax. A far superior car.

Nice and honest review. I have owned a 2018 XJ Portfolio with all the bells and whistles for the last couple of years and I have also driven an early model like the one you are testing here. The changes are pretty noticeable between the two. Especially on the engine and tech front, but also on the sound system and ride quality. No change to the headspace, but for a 5 ft 11 guy like myself it’s no issue at all. I think a fair comparison would be between the 2018+ version of the X351 and the X358, given they both are the final and most refined iterations of each model and truly represent a generational gap. Thanks for the video and looking forward to the next one.

jagvsjag I live in Australia. I have an xX350 3.5litre which is truly great. A 4.2 litre would be even better. I have wondered about also buying an x351. The X350 is a big car but largely drives like a smaller car until you put it into a parking spot. My main reservation is the X351's size. It looks huge . At 6 ft headroom is not too bad but would prefer not to have the sun roof and gain more body strength. Considered pros and cons of the diesel . I would prefer to avoid turbos and superchargers. The 5 litre V8 is just a little large. Unfortunate there was not a 4.2 litre model Design would lend itself to a hatchback/ Delighted with the interior. Exterior makes the car stand out in the crowd and certainly one of the sleekest . Space saver spare tyres are not popular here. Long distances to cover. Do a sidewall between towns on a space saver and could find yourself alone in the middle of nowhere. Replacing a space saver tyre in a country town is simply not going to happen. Liked the reviewl. Very informative. Thank you TJH

Ide always been a old young fella of that makes sense, and had XJ’s, series 1, 2 and three, but switching to Audi in my mid 30’s and been A8’s for ages. Currently new VW driver but want a wee bit of class in my life again and honestly torn between 3.0 diesel 351 or A8 4.2 tdi (for performance)….but just can’t make my bloody mind up

I've been bingeing these Jag videos as starting to look around now. Would love the 5l xk but practicality needs means I'm probably looking at either the 5l xf or 5l xj. I'm torn between the fun of the xf and the look and presence of the xj. Any thoughts on that. Great reviews btw, subscribed!
@HSGAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
I love both, but they definitely offer different advantages. If you care more about a tighter, more performance oriented ride and sharper looks then go XFR. If you want even more space, ride on a cloud and more of a lazy old school muscle car approach to an engine, then go XJR. But that's the X350 shape XJ I'm talking about. These newer XJ's are more similar to the XF. New money style. I find the headroom to be less in these than the XFR though

Excellent review. I am torn between a 2017 XJ Portfolio and R-Sport. I prefer the body styling of the R-Sport, but the slightly more luxurious interior of the Portfolio. Which do you prefer?
@HSGAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of look you're going for. I'd go R Sport because its more aggressive, Portfolio is more for stately class

Great car until the RF light comes on ! DPF cleaning and possible actuator valve between the two turbos either sticking on needing replacing , a proper money pit !!!!! Don't fix it and you'll find it in limp mode and think you're driving a 1 cylinder car with no power at all !

Basically it looks like a Mondeo. That traditional Jaguar styling elegance completely went away and instead we got... this. I don't know if it's a better car or not, but as looks are very important to me and I like classic cars, I'd never buy a Jag newer than X358.

It’s interesting how it plays with taste. I certainly prefer the back of the XJ over the XF, M5, S class, etc. For some reason this feels more timeless to me, whereas those other models are starting to feel dated.
