Harry’s a very hard worker indeed. He has a large collection of some very demanding vehicles that would crush most people. I sometimes struggle with the ownership of just one toy car. It takes a pair of very broad shoulders to feed a car passion anything close to Harry’s

I note the old girls original reg plate has changed from CLG 830S.....she was a great car when new, despite the auto box which suited the characteristics of the vehicle, and the softer suspension. Having previously owned an XJ12 6.0 litre Series 3 Manual TWR with a ZF conversion (and loved it), after being forced through divorce to sell it, and later acqiring a low mileage (45k) totally standard Series 3 XJ12 that had sat in a garage for 33 years due to a broken gearbox, I was hell-bent on converting it to a manual, rather than replacing it with another GM400 box. Fortunately, I was given the advice by a friend whose knowledge I knew should be well respected, not to convert to manual and rather to keep the car standard with a fresh GM400. Having never driven the standard car, and only heard the oft repeated "slush box" comments, I was a bit reluctant to heed the advice of my well respected friend. He tried to point out to me that Jaguar had engineered the car, very determinedly, for refinement, rather than to be a sports car. The expense of the conversion, combined with his advice led me to the decision to keep the car standard. I have to say that he was absolutely correct. The "slush box" comments all turned out to be utter garbage. My car is mechanically superb. The engine runs exactly as it was intended having had a lot of time and money spent on the ignition system. The car is something salubrious to drive with the three gears that it has. Ultimately, in my eyes the XJ12 is a forgotten-about master piece in completely standard form. That's probably due to it's reputation for unreliability, which it unfairly obtained because of unconscientious, irregular servicing. But if one of these is maintained correctly...what a car, WHAT A CAR!

I used to end up behind Series 1 XJ's in traffic jams back in the day and they have always been one of my few 'golden bucket' cars. A lot of cars look good, even great, from the font, but the series 1's look just as great from the back in a way absolutely no other car does. It is the way that the large almost flat boot transitions into the subtle vestigial fins and the shape of the lights that does it for me. A lot of modern cars are shapeless blobs at the rear (although aerodynamically superior). £67k seems an absolute bargain to me (even if it is way out of my price bracket).

Looking at your XJ-C Harry, I feel more and more vindicated about my recent acquisition of a mostly solid, complete and unrestored early XJ-S. It is a clean, low mile, relatively rust free car with a very nice original interior and it has quickly become one of my favourites. I must admit it’s scary as hell too, it tickles all the senses! It’s been stored by the previous owner for the past 21 years, and hasn’t been started in at least 7 years. I have not yet tried to get it running. The engine with all its plumbing and wiring on show looks so good to me also, that said, it’s internal health will be the determining factor of the project. If I have to open the engine it will be out of my league. So far I’m in the club for the equivalent of £1100 and dreaming of the day. People can complain that 67k is a lot for an old Jag that isn't an E type... However, it is the most beautiful coupe Jaguar have ever made. Yup, the E type coupe can jog on, this is the more nicely balanced looking design. The E looks like an awkward afterthought. Add a manual 'box and a tuned V12 along with a handling package and a complete restoration done in a tasteful manner... you have to spend that sort of money.

The XJ series, wether it’s series 1,2 or 3,(the 40 was just a horrible cost saving compromise; the X300 being an admission of this and a not bad attempt at correction) four or two door, are the most beautiful cars of all time. I agree entirely with you that they look far better than the E Type. Never has there been a car designed that looks different from any and every angle, and yet perfect from each and every one of those different angles. It’s never been recognised because Jaguar made millions of them. The sheer numbers of them that were produced effectively led to them being the most under appreciated car of all time.

As it happens, I hadn't run the bike since early September but noticed a weeping brake banjo washer yesterday, so fixed that and decided to change the coolant three months early too and ran the engine to get that done and it fired up easily. I also use a CTEK charger which I swap from bike to car quite often. Love the XJC, particularly the fantastic colour choice you made.

As you pointed out the oil cooler is massive, it's massive for a reason. The number plate in that position in my view is blocking the air flow to the oil cooler, before when it was attached to the bumper air could circulate behind it. Given that this car will not be used like a conventional daily driver you are unlikely to cause any issues with the engine. I agree though it does look much better under the bumper. Nice job on restoring her.

The color is fantastic. But I do like more the original blue 🤷🏻♂️

Yes, that weird blue color broadcast the car as bad-ass.

I know this is primarily a car channel chaps but that 'six into six' CBX is simply stunning.... the way Honda hung that awesome engine on the frame was absolute design genius.

The XJC looks absolutely superlative, really stunning. So glad Harry ignored the 'Pimp My Ride,' brigade and refused to increase the size of the wheels- at the expense of ride quality. The Kent alloys look very classy on the XJ6 and XJC. Fabulous end result, worth every penny.

"I want people to be confused"... in North America we call that a 'sleeper' Harry. Love this car and the journey even more. Thx for sharing it with us.

Fab video as usual Harry! Love the jag, even at 67k what could replace it. However I think you'll find the Yaris dropped to 2 cylinders, as it only has 3 to start with! He-he-he.😂 Anyway have a smashing new year, Sunday wouldn't be the same without you. 🎉🎉🎊🎊👌

Hi Harry, immensely enjoyed your videos this year and looking forward to the next. All the best to you and your family for 2022. I do have a question though, why not go for underbody rust proofing/coating (Waxoyl) with the cars you’re restoring? By doing so you could use the Jaguar more often, being a really good daily driver it seems a good idea? Cheers, Erwin

I'm blown away by the Jag. Been following all the videos on it, and it was well worth the wait. Absolutely stunning. Possibly one of my favourites in your stable now. Thanks for all the entertainment throughout the year Harry. Happy New Year to you and your family. Looking forward to the next year, and all the new plans you have for the collection. 👍🏼

The Jag is a wonderful thing, my dad had a Daimler V12 Vanden Plas saloon in Heather (pink) in the mid 70’s, I can remember him getting it sideways around Piccadilly circus on a wet morning, us kids thought it was the coolest thing.

The XJC was love on first sight for me. What a timeless beauty.

In french, we call this colour: caca d'oie. Basically, goose shit

The Jaguar just looks gorgeous in every way. The headlights look a bit milky / dull in the reflectors. Have you not exchanged these for new ones on such an otherwise beautiful renovation?
@muzman7772 жыл бұрын
Cant you polish them with a T cut type product for glass?
@toregullikhanem30772 жыл бұрын
@@muzman777 It is probably the reflectors and not the glasses that apply. The reflectors can probably get a new coating, but it is probably more economical to buy new Lucas lamps 🙂

What a beautifull result of a restauration.

Yes, a restoration and not a resto-mod, which I hate. After Jay Leno lifted the hood of his stunning ‘66 Olds Toronado to reveal he’d spent a fortune replacing its FWD power train with a rear-drive one-off, I dropped his channel. He disrespected the designers of this car’s unique vision.

That Jag has always been my favorite in Harry's collection, and now it's just about perfect.

The rebuild costs on the Jaguar V12 and the Lancia Zagato are truly eye-watering, I think that's definitely from a love of cars and not of pure investment potential.
