9:46 We really do appreciate it man. Your videos are really insightful and helpful. I bet in the future when it becomes even more difficult to find remaining independent mechanics that know these cars and Jaguar starts shifting towards only servicing electric vehicles, these videos will be a godsend. The forums are very good, but sometimes it’s difficult to get a grasp and confidently try these remedies or servicing out for yourself without actually witnessing it first and being able to see what you’re getting into. That’s where your videos really shine because you take it step by step and don’t skip over anything. Plus your attention to detail is great. Keep up the great work! You’re a rarity for XK/XKR servicing content.

Hi Paul, another great video. I wanted to make a comment about those large aluminum brackets on the lower dash panel on the driver side. That’s actually part of the supplemental restraint system, they support that lower instrument panel, which is called a knee bolster. In conjunction with the steering wheel, the seatbelt, and the steering wheel airbag, it’s designed to keep the driver in the proper position in case of an accident to maximize the effectiveness of this of the SRS components. There are some jaguar training manual resources that are available available online that will discuss this. Regards, Vic

Excellent, wondered where the humming was coming from, think this fan has been responsible for depleting my XK battery! Very informative, thanks for posting.

Thankyou for the procedure. Rebalancing the fan by cleaning and greasing the shaft most likely quietened the sensor.

You could just try the foam bit first which if is the solution would save faffing about with the rest and removing all other panels etc!? Obviously if it's the cleaning and greasing that sorted it then the opposite will apply. Could be a quick fix though which would be nice! 👍

Yeah I’d wager adding more foam or any type of cushioning adhesive will sort out roughly 75% or more of the noise issue, from what’s possible to achieve. I think the cleaning and greasing can only help, but it probably doesn’t contribute an extremely noticeable amount to the vibration issue.

Excellent clip. I'm OK for the present time, no noise. Just returned from Pickering as park of an XK trip and got 28 mpg which with a 5 litre xkr I thought that was pretty good. We were cruising say ranging 55mph to 75 mph.

I think the grease needed to be on the two motor bearings. At the fan end the actual bearing appears to me to be on a plastic cross piece, further back on the shaft. I do not know if you can get at the back bearing because of the circuit board. I added a bit of padding to mine, but the noise came back when the trim was put back on.

A mate of mine had this noisy fan issue. He got a can of compressed air with the long thin nozzle on it and stuck it through the dash vent and blasted it for about 30 seconds. It stopped the noise almost immediately. It must have been a dust build up.

Because it's now only a one tone noise you will get used to it and won't notice it again.

I've not checked the price with Jaguar however I'd be surprised if the part was much less than £300.
