Great video. When I took mine apart the cover wouldn't come off. I ended taking the face plate off (as recommended in another video) which was a big mistake. It was very difficult to get off without damage and not necessary. The reason I couldn't get the cover off was because it wouldn't slide back or up because after 20+ years the rubber isolation dampers were stuck to the cover. A little silicon spray lessened them right up, but I couldn't see that until I got the face plate off and I could lift the cover sides away from the body. I would recommend putting a little dialectic grease on the dampers where they contact the cover in case you have to remove it in the future. These things are always easier the second time around. ;-)

I managed to get a widget that fits in between the CD changer and amplifier with a switch to allow MP3 input. The guy that made it had a web site that appears to be long gone unfortunately. The only drawback is the CD player needs to be playing for the amplifier to accept the input. I actually plan to go further and fit a Bluetooth connector to the audio input but I have more pressing things to deal with such as no central locking from the fob! Very interesting video.

Graham, the Aux input via the CD lead seems the best solution to this issue. There is a company in the US selling a Bluetooth solution but a bit expensive. Trying the fix it route first. Thanks for the input and comment regards Damian

Udo, unfortunately another glorious failure. Maybe it will get better as I use it and the grease gets time to work into the mechanism. Always the optimist. In the meantime time to look Bluetooth alternatives. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

Thanks for the great video, I opened my unit it loads the cd but it does not turn the cd. Checked the motor and it works. Any idea?

In my case when my BMW e39 CD changer stopped working I took magazine out and removed every CD and then reinserted magazine. After turning CD player on it obviously displayed the "NO DISCS" message. Turned it off, put CDs back and turned CD player on. All discs are back in action and playing just fine. I know it might not be everyone's solution but in some cases it obviously works. 💿🔊 🤔

@@ODRModurol In my case it just stopped working for no reason when yesterday I tried to switch between two discs. It felt like a software issue than the ol' good grease one, as if its little brain got perpetually suspended in state of confusion, so offering it a full set of empty cartridges helped it to clear its mind. Literally.

I’d recommend you mark the damper positions and reinstall in the same place. As they age and sag

A useful video, thanks. What silicone grease were you using? Some sprays are too runny - just want to get the correct one.

Paul, I would recommend using a white grease and silicone lubricant spray. The multichanger worked for a while a but it’s very temperamental. Use a Bluetooth tape more often now, regards Damian

If you install the front springs first, it makes it much easier.

I'm getting an E-01 error code on my 05 XKR. I notice they still make new Alpine 6 CD changers and they look the same size. Any chance they can be adapted to work?

Hi great vid my CDC has also failed but my car is a soft top with all the hydraulic gubbins on top of the bracket would undoing the cdc fixing bolts with bracket in situ” work do you think ? Thanks

My fix is to park the car and remove the changer 'magazine' then reinsert it. This usually seems to reboot things.

I have a similar unit. With mine the slide mechanism will not move. I think the motor is dead.

Alright bud, great video, before I attempt to take mine apart I have a little question, I can't get my cd cartridge to eject, have you got any ideas what it could be ?? Cheers 👍

Steve, if I remember correctly the eject button pushes a separate micro switch which triggers the ejection of the cartridge. Sorry can't give you any other help as not had this issue with mine. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

@@ODRModurol it's got me baffled, there's no noise from the changer when I press the little blue eject button so either I've got no power coming to the changer or something inside has failed but I'll pull it apart and let you know if I have any success 👍

Andy K, understood but wanted to show the steps I took to try to repair it. It does work better but not 100%. Maybe it will help prompt someone to find and share the solution. Believe it’s something electrical. Thanks for the comment sorry for the disappointment regards Damian
