Got a bulb out then this video will show you which bulb to buy and how to change them. Part numbers and full dis-assembly process detailed together with lots of 'Top Tips' to avoid mistakes.

I’ve done this 3 times. Fully agree with your re-assembly tips. Why 3 times? 1. Replaced with std used bulbs, some failed quickly. 2. Bought blue led (original bulbs looked blue), blue light was out of keeping with car 3. Tried white led’s adding the blue condom covers from old bulbs. Result is still a different blue light to rest of car. I feel green led is the right way to go. 4th time lucky😁 or I try to change radio illumination to match🤔

Ant, so I am not alone.😆😆. Started with white, played with red but ended up with green as blends in with the rest on the surface mounted bulbs on j-gate etc. Getting better at the job but the radio surround is suffering ☹️🤦‍♂️. Need the radio updating but can’t bring myself to spend circa £400 for the occasional use of the radio. A job towards the end of the list. Regards Damian

BCF, I actually thought the backlighting was green the same as the LCD screens. But it seems they are blue. Not sure the Jaguar logic with this one. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

Great video. Would love to know if anyone has achieved an OEM look with LEDs and if so what did you use? Wonder if a 'warmer' white led plus the blue bulb covers might work? Also does the dimming knob still work when using LEDs?

Doug, someone will figure it out eventually. For reference the dimmer function still works all be it over a more limited range. Thanks for the input regards Damian

Is the switchgear on the steering wheel supposed to be illuminated? Cruise control, radio column, wiper stalk? If so, how do you change out those bulbs?

This video saved my life! 😊 Quick question: the lcd screen in my xkr of the climate control unit (top screen) recently lit up only half; the right side ‘greyed out’… is this due to a bulb failing or is the crystal in the liquid crystal screen just gone. I know that over time these crystals start failing, but I’m just not sure. I really hope it’s just a matter of a new bulb. I wanna go full led anyway, so hope that will bring it back to an original full lit screen. What is your experience? Thanks so much; really great vid!! ❤

@@ODRModurol thx so much. Watching the video I got that sense. My mechanic (a specialized Jaguar one 😳) said they could not fix it as the whole unit needed to be replaced. Which I just ordered by the way 🤦🏻‍♂️😆

Can’t you release the radio from the console prior to the dismantling to lower the weight of the console?

Niku_rak, good idea but unfortunately not the radio metal chassis holder has spring tabs that need to be released from the rear before you can remove it. Thanks for the idea and comment regards Damian

Speaking of lights. The main instrument gauges on a XK8 are very hard to read since they are greatly inset and dark. Many of the newer cars today always have the instrument cluster bulbs on and they are brighter when the headlights are off and dimmer when the headlights are on. Is there a way to have the instrument bulbs on when the headlights are off? My 2008 Range Rover seems to do the same thing. Thank you.

Michael, Interesting question, I am pretty sure my 1996 XK8 main instrument dials are always backlit as you describe even when the headlights are off. However, the centre console bulbs only light up with the headlights. I noticed this as the LED bulbs are so much brighter. What year is your car? regards Damian

@@ODRModurol Damion! I should have done this before I bothered you. I just went into the garage and kept the garage lights off. I sat in the Jaguar and turned the ignition on. I did not start the car; I just turned the ignition on and the dashboard instrument lights were on, no matter where I placed the headlight switch to (auto, on, off, etc). So obviously they work. So,why can’t I see them during the day? Maybe I have to install LED bulbs. Have you found LED bulbs that work no matter which way you install them? Thank you for your time Damion and stay well.

Yes good thanks, put my 18" super charged wheels on with a set of Continental tyres and I'm very happy with them , replaced the window waist seals too and after a bit of hassle getting them to stay in place, I had to use Tiger seal in the end , all is good there too. Unfortunately I did fill the old girl up with E10 unleaded a few weeks ago and she didn't like it at all, finally got it out of her system and filled her with 99Octane super plus and she is much happier!

@@ODRModurol My car has about 60,000 on it. Engine serial number shows that it does have the updated timing chain tensioners. But anyways car sat for about a week maybe two weeks I had replaced the front upper mounts front shocks front brake pads and sway bar links. When I go to start the car it went into restricted performance mode ABS ASC all that stuff came up. I had the battery tested at two different places it tested perfect but since it was 6 years old I went ahead and replaced it with a good one just the rule it out. This made no difference I did the hard reset scan the codes and everything came up with throttle position, so I figured okay a TPS. On eBay I ordered a denso sensor and replaced it. But while I was waiting for that to show up I checked all the fuses I pulled every fuse out looked to make sure everything was good no blown fuses I checked all my grounding everything. Anyways I put the sensor on and nothing changed. I forgot to mention I even the MAF. So well messing around trying to adjust the TPS cleaning all the connectors doing hard resets what happens now is when I start the car it goes to full throttle right away. When I turn the key you can hear the butterfly cycle open close in my turn the key off it cycles and the butterfly closes. But with the key on after it cycles the butterfly stays wide open and you can hear a humming sound coming from somewhere in the throttle body. When had an idea I unplugged the TPS and that stopped the car from going full throttle at startup but And simply put it back to restricted performance mode. So I am lost. I'm thinking about sending my throttle body into this place and they rebuild them and test all the sensors they supposed to put it back to everything complete correct and working.

Eric, sorry my car hasn’t got the later electronic throttle so haven’t any experience of those issues. I would suggest posting the issue on JaguarForums.com . Lots of helpful people on there, regards Damian

@@ODRModurol I have done, no one has came with a thing and I've only got a few comments. I have no issue spending the money to fix it I would just like to get it narrowed down. So maybe I will send mine off to the company to be rebuilt. Fingers crossed thank you
