I've owned an xk8 for the past 19 yrs . Marvellous love driving it . Very religious about oil change each year . Plus anything else it needs . I'm fortunate that I can maintain the xk8 myself . The reward is an incredible drive .

O&DR Modurol , you are the king of Xk information and i really learned a lot from your Jaguar videos or really episodes. Love all the details about each model year like changes and upgrades to the Xk's. I am a Jaguar and multiple car owner myself and would love to find some details like this about the S-type models. I own a 2002 triple black model V-8 of course and would love to get more info on this specific year because it is the only year where the numbers for certain things like power and specs in general differ more than any other modern jaguar. I was told by two jaguar gents that i have one of the high output models that has the Xk 4.0 V8 and they only made a few thousand or less that year. That is one thing i need to know if its true for sure because if so its semi rare. It does seem to have a little more pull off the line and through out the power band than the other ones i drove that had lower miles and better tires (at the time). It feels like the 4.2's 300hp. even though truthfully i like the 4.0 motor better , just my opinion also has a certain extra sound in the tailpipes like the type R almost (of course i checked , no leaks for sure) This was the year they changed the dash to the XJ type and other things electrical fit /finish. Also have same year 2002 Xk8 triple black and cant find a lot of info either for this year. There were much more improvements in fit and finish and electrical improvements for both jag models this year they say (Jaguar) and would love to know. Great Video

I watched the whole video waiting for my year (2004), to watch it getting skipped lol!!! Thank you Damian, great video again. Ok. So from what I've heard, not all 2004 are portfolio. Now what makes it a portfolio? No idea! The XJ8 portfolio in the later years have specific features that make them portfolios. But the xk8/r, I couldn't find anything either. Anyone?? The 04 xkr ships with factory brembo and recaro seats, leather wheel and wood jgate top ball, 20' bbs wheels etc, I think. Mine has R performance which, though my little experience working on the car, requires different parts, sometimes having differences in sizes. There's a version r package, or called by other performance package (the 2 nominations are often assimilated as the same thing, don't know if they are). The factory features above however, were also included in the 2003 if I'm not mistaken so... The question still rests, what differences are there between the 03 and the 04, and the one with perf package? It makes it extremely difficult to find videos or tutorials specific I this year. Damian, would that help you if I sent some pictures of the engine and chassis maybe? Regarding the portfolio features, I wonder if that just what they called the 04 to give it a fancy name... Alexander, MY2004 is a great big black hole of nothingness, at the moment. Nothing and no one coming forward with anything. I think Jaguar was flat out on the X150 and really didn’t bother until MY2005. I am thinking of doing a ‘special editions video’ if I can get the info and photos. I have a 98 XJR supercharged 4L is that ax300 or ax308 and is it a ajv8?

Mark, X300 used a inline 6 litre (AJ16) and the X308 used the V8 (AJ26). Both 4 litre. The X300 is to 1997 and X308 from 1997. Mostly likely you have the V8 but might be a very small chance it the last of the straight 6’s. Take a look at the engine and it should be obvious. Thank you for the excellent video, damian. MY XK8 coupe has the VIN-nr: 1764. So, it is the 518th build XK8, right? Do you know, how many coupe´s and convertible`s werde built in 1996 an can you estimate how many coupe`s were built before my car? Thank you very much. Matthias

Mark, you are indeed very lucky. Those cars a quite unique as both the last of the special editions and are actually different to a fully optioned car (bodykit, wheels etc). The cream of the slightly modified X100 and surely a good investment, regards Damian

Great video! I have always wanted to buy a 2005 or 2006 XKR Coupe, but they are hard to find (in general) but also with under 100k mileage, and only driven in good weather states like SoCal, AZ, etc. I just found one up for sale, a 2003 version. At least this is when they updated the engine so that is good, but is there any other differences I should know (other than what is listed in the video) between a 2003 and an 05 or 06? Either with engine or cosmetic or anything else? Also, I do love the mesh grille being on the outside of the black bars on the front like the 05/06 vs behind it like on the 03 and previous versions. Do you know if there is a kit or something that could change that at all? I'm just wondering as if I buy this 2003, it would be nice to make it look more similar to the 05/06, and then it may make me not feel the need to keep looking.

@systemsalliance, there are mostly cosmetic differences between the MY2003 and MY2005 cars. Although the 'Victory' and MY2006 are normally highly specified with options etc. You are pretty safe with the MY2003 and 4.2 litre engine. The black bars are called overriders and many owners have chosen to remove them and add a full mesh grill similar to the MY2005 cars. There are bumper reinforcements behind the overriders and these need to be cut back to allow the grill to sit further back. Adamesh in the UK offer several options see link at the bottom. My car is a white badge chequered flag XKR coupe Japanese import . Has the body mods of 2005 . Vin No is earlier though . How can this be . Be good to find out . Thanks

George, Thank you for the comment. The White chequered flags cars where the 4.2 S Final Edition XK8 and XKR (Victory in the US). This model year Vin was A45289 to A486684 started in January 2005 (Ref Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust 2017). If its one of those cars the colour was either Copper black, frost blue, Bay blue or Satin Silver metallic.Elem wood or carbon fibre veneers. Chequered tread plates and darkened rear light clusters. XKR's had Perseus 20 inch alloys, cross drilled discs, red wheel badges and red calipers.(www.thexkec.co.uk/model-guide/x100/4-2-s/) What VIN number is your car ? @@ODRModurol Vin is 41311 . Japanese car . imported back to the UK in the summer of 2016 . It has a white badge and I was told it was a 2004 . Does not add up as it has the body mods of 2005 . Confused

George, you are correct about the vin number being MY2004.5. A40265 to A42348. Does it have adjustable rear exhaust brackets? Black gloss front and rear screen finishers? There isn’t a lot of info about MY2004&2004.5. Jaguar was trying really hard to sell the cars then. You might have an ex-Jag Japan display car sent to Japan to help with sales pre-MY2005 but similar features. Can you send photos of your car ? (O&[e-mail]). Would advise investing in a heritage certificate to try and put your mind at rest but they are £50 plus VAT. (Www.jaguarheritage.com). Sounds like a really good spec and would be nice if it’s something special from Japan. Thanks for the input an comments regards Damian

Hi, thanks for the video. It made me help to orient in all the versions. However some questions remains: 1) The rear badges of 4.2 versions. Sometimes "4.2" is on the left and "XKR" on the right, sometimes its opposite. Sometimes there´s only XKR. 2) There is this plastic "thing" above rear wheels. From which year it has been incorporated and has it been ever painted? I see it sometimes matching car colour and sometimes its standard black plastic. Thanks a lot.

J L, thanks for the comment and questions. 1/ there was a lot of rebadging with the 4.2l cars 2003 to 2006 as Jaguar was struggling with sales and trying hard to flog them. It was about this time they started using the ‘R’ logo to designate R Performance. I’ll try to get some more information. 2/ the rubber wheel arc Extensions or spats where added to cars sold with the wider BBS alloys with the R performance packages. This due to the fact the rear wheels come out further. Eg Detriot and Paris 20” alloy wheels. Don’t think they are still available but can be carefully removed from scrap cars and reused. J L, reference rebadging. MY2003 XK8/XKR right hand side but R logo/brand added for XKR below side repeaters, Brembo calipers, gearknob, rocker panel. See TSB100-22. MY2005 added 4.2(S) badges to the left hand side in addition to the other badges from what I can see from car photos. Hope that helps. Thanks for the questions, regards Damian

@@ODRModurol Perfect, thanks for your answer! Now this makes sense as I was able to see and drive blue XKR (link below) yesterday which was without the rubber arcs but with 20" Paris. Owner mentioned that he got the wheels additionaly. Your video also helped me to understand why some brakes are ventilated (with holes) and some are not - didnt know until now that it was up to buyer to decide. The last thing that is unclear for me is whether there was an option to have the arcs matching the car colour? And what exactly is btw the R-package? Was it only about nr of logos around the car? Gear know, under repeaters and so on? Or was there smth more? There are sometimes chrome covers on pedals and around the shifter - is that also related to R-pack? I did not have time to go through all your videos yet, so if it was already explained, just let me know and I will watch it. MrZ, Sorry of the confusion. The video is model years not registration or build years. Model Year 2003 cars (4.2L) started being built for June 2002 VIN A30645 onwards. Sounds like you have an early 4.2, hope that helps, regards Damian
