I just bought a 03 Jaguar JX8 about 2 months ago I love it everywhere I go people always complementing me on it, but as well has it's kinks here and there and I so wish I had a little bit of car knowledge like yourself

Looking at that starter relay contacts it looks as if its been in and out a few times. The internal contact of the relay are likely to be cprroded. Poping off the brown cover eill allow cleaning and might be a permanent cure ? I didnt realise all relays on the xk8 are the same so learnt something else today 👍. Same colour shceme as mine . Great looking car.

This was brilliant! My only worry is how it got fried in the first place. Potentially there could be something else wrong, but my guess is that the starter just went bad. I mean, you know jag electronics! Anyways, fantastic video, keep it up!

Thanks Rhys, I really appreciate your positive comments. I have tested the voltage before and after the relay and all seems consistent, so I'm hoping the internals of the relay have just started to corrode and break down. I guess time will tell, there's always something to keep us busy isn't there buddy🤷

Good you got it sorted. Looks like you need a bulb for the left side of your climate control temperature display. See the guidance in my XK8 Bible. Cheers.

Hi Gary, thanks for your kind comments. We'll spotted, I do need a bulb in there and also one on the right hand cluster of guages. I'll certainly check out your guide for doing these jobs, it's so well written and clear that makes it such a useful tool 👍

I’ve the same issue with my newly acquired XK8. Hoping for the same outcome- already got lucky discovering fuse F3 was being blown by a shorting alarm sounder under the front rhs wheel arch. That took the fog lights and heater pump out, so I was rather concerned

Can you remember if when you tried to start the Jag could you hear the starter solenoid 'click' or was everything silent? My intermittent starting problem is that when I turn the key to start, I get an audible click like the starter solenoid is trying to trigger the starter but the starter won't do anything at all. In the old days, if you heard the solenoid click, you knew the solenoid was ok, the relay was ok, and the starter was probably bad.

Hi Warren, from memory I was getting nothing at all, and the starter was my first train of thought. On another occasion when I first bought the car it had another intermittent starting issue. This turned out to be the exciter ring around the ignition switch that sent the signal to turn off the immobiliser. This had failed and the signal was not being sent resulting in the car doing nothing but all dash lights coming on. I swapped it out for a good second hand one and all was good again 👍

Also it won't like such an empty tank of petrol. Mind you, my 99 XKR has a bad sensor and so it shows empty sometimes even when not.

That is a beautiful color! Is that the sapphire blue? I believe that's the color of my '00 XK8.

Hi Rachel, thanks for your kind comments. You are right, it is sapphire blue colour code JHE. You can find the colour code of your car on a label on the inside of the door opening along with the codes for the interior trim also 👌 😀

Hi Tracy, is the engine turning over and trying the start? If it has restricted performance on the dash you would he able to plug in an OBD2 car scanner which should give you a fault code. If you have a fault code then we can certainly narrow the fault down for you. Cheers, Simon.
