This didn't make sense to me, either. I remember when Byron Leftwich refused to coach the Jaguars unless Baalke was gone and I completely understand why Leftwich felt that way.

Feel better about the Giants right now as opposed to the Jags. At least with them the GM & coach are tied together. Worst case scenario, they have another bad year, hire a new coach and GM, and have a high draft pick again. Better than hiring a coach this cycle that's tied to a bad GM.

@thomash.schwed3662Күн бұрын
Furthermore, the Packers are owned by the people of Green Bay. Consequently, Murphy himself has to answer to them. Khan, for his part, does not answer to the people of Jacksonville. On the contrary, as has been repeatedly demonstrated since the installation of the Jumbotron so large it can be seen from space, the people of Jacksonville-through their elected City Council and elected mayor-answer to Khan, who, as a result, is, in effect, an unelected dictator over the River City.

While I do agree with most of your assessment, yet there are a couple of points with which I must dissent: 1. As an owner of an AFL team, Khan has always been incompetent. This is not merely an issue with Trent Baalke, although he certainly doesn’t help matters. No, that program has had serious problems since the Weavers sold, and Khan is at the root thereof. 2. While Khan is an incompetent football owner, yet he does display a measure of acumen as a businessman. This is evidenced by his repeated successful attempts to coerce the City of Jacksonville to capitulate to his demands that the city-owned and operated stadium be renovated to his specific standards-standards which do not necessarily reflect general usage. This, notwithstanding the fact that Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is a multi-purpose facility. Thus far, he’s been able to achieve his successes in this regard by threatening to move his program to London. Both the Mayor’s Office and City Council know full well the revenue created by 65,000 people visiting that stadium and nearby restaurants on autumnal and early-winter Sunday afternoons and evenings, as well as the lodging taxes paid by fans of opposition teams. Consequently, they kowtow to Khan lest they lose all that revenue. Nonetheless, even they realize his game. Sooner or later, they’ll deny his demands and Khan will make good on his threat to move. No, he won’t settle for Orlando or Gainesville (other than the temporary arrangements for 2026 and 2027 during the upcoming renovation). Rather, he will go to London as he’s always wanted. The current goings-on with regard to his self-imposed staffing issues is merely the latest in his preparatory work toward that end. As I’ve mentioned before on your main channel, I used to live in Jacksonville. This was a constant topic for discussion at that time. My advice is: Don’t be surprised when Khan follows through on his longstanding threat.
