Al Muqaddimah

2 жыл бұрын

The great Mughal Emperor Jalal ud-Din Muhammad Akbar died in 1605. He left behind a fairly secure empire that could largely run on its own without much intervention from the sovereign. This was a very different empire than the one Akbar himself had inherited from his father, Humayun. Since its founding in 1526, the Mughal Empire hadn’t been on solid ground until Akbar restructured it. With Akbar’s death, his son Salim ascended to the throne with the title of Jahangir.

I visited Nur Jahan's tomb in Lahore in 2013. The tomb is just 100 metres down the road from the tomb of her husband, Jahangir. One thing people forget about her is that she was an excellent Persian poet. On her grave, you can find this poem: "On the grave of this poor stranger, let there be neither lamp nor rose. Let neither butterfly’s wing burn nor nightingale sing." She was a very humble person and that poem is her saying that she wanted a humble burial. Her tomb is the size of a small house whereas Jahangir's tomb is so big people use it like a municipal park. That should give you an idea of the difference of personalities.

Nur Jahan possessed great physical strength and courage. She often went on hunting tours with her husband, and was known for her marksmanship and boldness in hunting ferocious tigers. She is reported to have slain four tigers with six bullets during one hunt. According to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan this feat, inspired a poet to declaim a spontaneous couplet in her honor: "Though Nur Jahan be in form a woman, In the ranks of men she's a tiger-slayer" - Unknown Poet

Bajirao won the Battle of Delhi in 28 March 1737, and looted and plundered cities and villages nearby, but he didn't siege Delhi and retreated later on, because his army was exhausted fighting and marching all the way from the Deccan to Delhi, and he did not have equipment and artillery for sieging the impressively fortified city of Delhi, plus he had also heard of a Mughal army being assembled from Punjab. Khilji's raid on srirangam in an attempt to desecrate the temple and massacre of 13,000 native defenders is well-known. The madurai sultanate, established by Malik kafur, was ended by the vijayanagar empire, also a non Tamil speaking dynasty, which ruled over parts of the state. Tipu sultan also ruled parts of Northern Tamil Nadu. The thanjore Maratha dynasty was established by a maratha expedition that settled there. The British completely took over the state.

@@anirudh177 Well, do you think that if Maloji became the Peshwa of the Ahmednagar Sultanate instead of Ambar's son, would survive some little longer? Of course, they can handed the title to the Bhat family when the time is right later on.

A correction:- Both Maloji and Shahaji served under Ambar, When his father died in the early 1700s, Shahji was already a minor commander under Malik Ambar.

@@lerneanlion If Shahaji and his father were as capable as Ambar, they perhaps could have resisted more, but this is speculative history, in the end if the Mughals simply dry them out of resources through constant war, they could lose. Although the possibility of the Marathas entering the stage strong early on is possible here, but perhaps the Maratha state would've never existed since Shivaji's rebellion was because he felt dissatisfied with Bijapuri/Mughal/Ahmdenagari service due to what he felt was less pay than he deserved. Now Maloji and Shahaji were capable men, but as far as I know they weren't particularly better or as good as Ambar or Shivaji at guerilla warfare and resisting Mughals.

It's amazing how duplicitous these types of guys are. It's almost as if they come from a system that has no good moral values.

he was great because he expanded his empire 3 times he made his empire one of the most powerful of its time he was great because he had many Hindus in his court ,he had man Singh as his general married a Rajput wife he ruled nearly half a century by the way he couldn't capture mewar but Rana pratab lost in haldighati and all the other Rajputs bowed before him and begged to marry their daughters to his royal family he translated Ramayana and Mahabharata to Persian but bhakt and logic are complete opposite.
