I kid you not, same thing happened to me from a Purple cow named Petunia. same dialogue. I think it's a personality type tied to color. strangely.... Petunia hasn't been like that since outside a snooty remark about "covering for her" (I don't know why but her and Alfonso are associated with a runaround delivery 90% of the time)

The developers actually divided the villagers up into personality types, so each type has similar dialogue. Sue E and Petunia are both "snooty" personalities, so they say roughly the same things. The others are things like "Jock", "lazy", and "peppy"

If you want a kind of better summary of animal crossing: It’s a game series made by Nintendo, the most popular ones being Animal Crossing: New leaf And Animal Crossing: New Horizons (the new one, that have saved many in the depths of quarentine) Bacially the premise of the game is to do chores and tasks and activities, build up and customize your town, and talk to the villagers. you go on an island and build up your town on the island, you dig fossils, catch bugs and fish, customize things, and in the new game there’s a lot more options of what you can do and there’s over 300+ villagers lol. Animal Crossing New Horizons still has funny dialogue lol but the old games definitely has a bit more flavor to the villagers, there’s also been a few updates lately too.

It doesn't really have to do with the times changing as much as it has to do with the contents of the game. Adding all the new stuff to ACNH like decorating outside, customizable PCs, Nook Miles tickets and so on, they had less time to work on the character content for the villagers. Back during the original AC, they had fewer villagers and MUCH fewer things to do in the game so they could spend time adding all the awesome flavor text.

This makes me glad that I missed Wild World. The newer games, the characters are a LOT nicer. Recommend the newest game, new horizons. You can trade with villagers, go fishing, sell things for money, buying furniture for your house, etc.
