This is what happens when you have an intelligent, skilled player who spends four years in college learning the game with serious coaches....instead of going one-and-done. He doesn't play like most NBA rookies, because he's spent those years learning, training, and playing to develop himself.....and his success comes as no surprise to fans of UCLA.

Staying in college and programming your game to the college level is stupid and doesn’t translate well. He’s a exception and exceptions don’t make the rule. Most players who stay longer tend to struggle transitioning to the next level

word. imagine if we nixed college ball and made g league more of a priority for development!

@@charltom4053: That's very much a question of player drive and coaching.... Sure, a gifted player can take the diva turns for years and not improve....and get flattened when he gets to the NBA. But a college coach who instills discipline, insists that every player works hard, learns the game, & plays both ways as a part of a team, and works on skills that directly translate is golden. And players that put in the time studying film, and the reps in practice, in games, as well as on the track and in the weight room...are going to do a lot more for themselves than playing big man on campus and social media. Jaime didn't "program his game to the college level," He worked on fundamentals that build the foundation for playing at the next level. Yeah, he's got a lot to learn...but he and coach Cronin already prepared him to know HOW to learn, and put in the effort to do that learning.

Yeah but the players that do well typically do not play like rookies, it just gets hyped up when its a guy that has played four years. Jaime is good because Jaime is good. At least that's how I see it.

Jaquez has been my favorite rookie to watch this season, even more than Chet and Wemby by a mile. He fits in so seemlessly with the Heat and is the perfect player for a coach like Spo. I love how the Heat put their trust in him to play in late game situations as well. He's easily in my top 5 favorite players in the NBA right now, along with DRose, Jimmy, Jokic, and Caruso.

The first time I saw him play in a heat uniform and given minutes. I already knew that they really saw something in JJJr. Because Miami is not known to play rookie for extended minutes. But after Herro went down yet again, JJJr is always playing the entirety of the 4th as a closer. Thats trust and building your future superstar that JB would pass the Baton to.

Great video, but I think Jaimes' defense is even better than his offense. He also has great footwork. He really doesn't have a weakness except that he's an average 3 point shooter, and isn't the fastest player. Kinda like a budget Jimmt Butler.
@georgeguerra2461
@georgeguerra2461 7 ай бұрын
I think he has potential to peak at a jimmy butler type level. What he lacks in Jimmys level of quickness/athleticism he will make up for in shooting. He’s definitely a better playmaker. It took Jimmy until 30-31 to be a good playmaker and even then it’s more of his gravity I think jaquez has better vision.

Watched Jaquez all four years at UCLA. I liken him to an OG playing pickup hoops. Although younger guys can run up and down the court faster, an OG is still a valuable player on any team because he understands fundamentals (i.e. he'll find ways to neutralize an opponent's strengths).
