You know, I might be misremembering, but at least Absurdly Extra in EMS and EE at least were doable. This just looks like Gengetu Rape Time in the guise of Absurdly Extra. Heck, as far as I could see, there were several patterns that were literally undodgeable and had to be bombspammed through.

@@Solar20XX Yeah, EMS was horrible, but at least most of the cards looked plausible if with too-dense bullets (except spellcard 10; see the description of Jaimers’ video for that). The total number of attacks here (spell or nonspell) that look remotely doable can be counted on one hand, I’m pretty sure a couple are completely impossible, and I do not think the designer of these considered for one second the idea that you should be able to avoid being walled in.

This isn't even the full extra stage. After the boss, there's an extra extra boss, who has 5 spells. Also, it's "Absurdly" Extra, which means that it shouldn't even be possible to do it.

BTW, this guy named Permafrost Wolf managed to do perfect runs of all the Absurdly Extra stages, including this one (kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5zWmHqOZclsn5Y ). But he needed a ton of savestates for Earthen Miraculous Sword, and this one needed savestates plus slowed down to 15 or even 9 FPS for pretty much the entire boss fight. He did manage to perfectly clear the whole thing, though, including that $#&@*ing survival card.

This danmaku wasn't meant to be dodged. It was meant to be BOMBED! Seriously, that last spellcard looks like somebody ate the Bad Apple animation and peed it out in 16 penises at once. Pardon if that sounds offensive or crude, but it seriously does. While I don't know (can't read Japanese), I'm assuming the boss character's main ability is some sort of spacial manipulation, judging by the negative zones mechanic. While some may compare her to Yukari with this power, she definitely exhibits this power a lot more in her battle. Seriously, somebody put this boss on a freakin' monument. Hardest Touhou boss literally ever.

They do have a small hitbox, but it's hard to see them. The touhou bubbles at least can be figured out since the zone where you are safe around them is this white border.

This reminds me a lot of some of the 'hyper difficult' danmaku play I've seen - where it seems like it's not actually expected that the player clears it legitimately so much as you're expected to spam bombs/whatever gimmick regularly to create space for you to deal damage for about three seconds before using the next.

As much as I love JynX's works, I really think they should work on playability. It's fun to play when it's challenging, but when it's something near impossible, like this, then it's just a pain to even try. It's neat to think of these Touhou inspired games as harder than Touhou, but when they're just so blatantly impossible, then why even bother? I've tried normal mode, and I found it decent, if not a little hard for normal mode. I wonder if JynX properly tests their games difficulties before releasing them...

You should do it, the normal extra mode is pretty funny and it has a lot of extra lifes. Unlocking it isn't too hard too, since if you can reach the 6th stage without using a continue you have the extra stage unlocked, even if you fail to beat Shion.

A great number of Cave games use the same exact formula of "just upping the bullet count and speed and unpredictability" on higher difficulties as well, and they're pretty much the same horse shit as this: forcing you to spam bombs or die. They still have the "playable" difficulties in the game, just as this one does, but it should be obvious to anyone that these retarded shitstorm difficulties just exist as a "let's see how fucking insane we can make this game" mode, not a as showcase of balance and professional game design.
