Maybe the reason the patterns are so...ridiculous might be because the protagonist is DRUNK. Perhaps there really are safe ways to get through these spellcards but because we see things as they do, the cards end up being more unnatural than they would be otherwise.

According to an interview, JynX said that designing Absurdly Extra patterns was his favourite part in designing patterns. ... sigh, why would that be fun if most patterns aren't even meant to be captured? so, quick rundown nons 1, 2, 3, 4: safespot spell 4, 9: probably doable if you manage to pray to RNGesus 12 times a second. sometimes impossible. spell 6, 7, 11, 13: lasers + fast random bullshit for big lulz. completely impossible long-term. nons 5, 6: doable but very bullshit spell 8: when I make a typo in Danmakufu. how is this a thing, obviously impossible. non 7: doable spell 10: Jynx really just said "yeah move in a perfect circular motion and tightdodge 48 lines a second". obviously impossible. non 8: wtf and why, impossible unless you go GODGAMER mode. and even then you can get agregious RNG spell 12: what? this is doabl- wtf is that second phase, Jynx said "hey let's make you dodge Yuuka's final except 12 times harder" overal verdict: the claim "The 10th spellcard is completely impossible" is correct but the claim "clearing this stage would not be possible if that safespot was not there." is wrong. But, it would require absolute perfection, god RNG, and running this game for 4 years straight. lol

Something or other Wow, old comment. Anyways, you missed the point. It is a joke mode, but regardless it's there as juxtaposition to the rest of Jynx's mediocre design. Including a mode that is hilariously broken is a common thing amongst new and/or poor designers to hide insecurities: "if people see this thing that's _definitely_ bad, they won't think the stuff I actually put effort into is that bad in comparison", even if that isn't explicitly intended. Additionally, the _way_ this mode is broken is also illustrative of Jynx not really getting what makes bad design. Again, it's common among people who aren't that good to go straight to the impossible bullshit. It means you don't have to think about what you're doing, and the player dies, so mission accomplished right? There are definitely such things as good joke modes, even good "unfair" joke modes, but you still need a good design sense in order to know how to go about it properly.

Funny how the guy who throws out the $10 words sounds like said $10 words. No, CAVE games aren't perfect, but they have literally decades of proof of great work that's almost always pretty fair. Stuff like Inbachi is thrown in there to test players, like every TLB ever has. You'll notice that Inbachi is the second potential bullshit design in a CAVE game after PinkSweets, and players still haven't fully figured Inbachi out yet. Len'en can't hide behind that. Not for Tasouken (which is reasonable in comparison), not for Saragimaru, not for Tenkai and Sese, and definitely not for BPoHC's hell gauntlet. The problem with Len'en is that it doesn't really work on Easy, let alone Unreal or Absurdly Extra. EE is the only really playable game, because it's almost bullshit-free; it's got problems, it's not god-tier, but it's pretty darn playable. EMS is still somewhat playable but flash bombs start to skirt the bullshit line, and then you have this ABEX here. RMI's entire team system is totally busted and it has an even dumber ABEX somehow. Then you have BPoHC, the total nightmare in every conceivable way that even some Len'en fans are afraid to back up. JynX is a pretty cool dude and he could probably make great patterns *if he just took the time to do so*. He doesn't! His entire policy is to see how much he can do within a given timeframe; he mentions in BPoHC (and probably elsewhere) that nearly all of his songs are done within a day (which is fucking phenomenal). I'm actually okay with that, but it seems like a waste of a great concept, and a project like this will always be a hallmark of terrible design. ZUN got like that too, ever since MoF; he now has an explicit policy of never patching his games unless the game outright crashes miserably. I still don't know how he made tEoSD/PCB/IN, three miracles. MoF/SA/UFO are okay as are DS and FW (second series), but TD/DDC/ISC/LoLK (third series) are all shady for various reasons. Absurdly Extra doesn't need to be a joke difficulty at all. EE is proof of this. JynX simply doesn't care about good design, and as long as you recognize that, things are fine. But if you don't, you're knowingly ignorant and foolish.
