Riding in Jakarta today is like riding in NYC in the 80s. No bike lanes, chaotic traffic, almost 0 bikes and people not giving two shits about cyclists. Mad respect for this kid!

Nice! I used to live in Jakarta and this brings back memories (though riding never crossed my mind when I was there). Can definately see the benefits of riding: road congestion is 100% like 90% of the time; traffic is very smooth with few red lights; and Jakarta drivers are very cool and not aggressive. Downside would be the heat, super high humidity and all those motorbikes. Plus, it’s a really huge city. Vast.

Jakarta is still a mess right now. Lots of constructions projects, LRT, MRT, sidewalks and new elevated highways segments. Perhaps will be cleaner and tidier in five years
