Jake was the PERFECT replacement for Randy. He was able to pull off all of Randy with his own style and still kick ass with feel. He is SO underrated and was not given the respect he certainly earned. I think he was every bit as much a part of the amazing Ozzy years as Randy was. He held that torch up high man, and really made it his own while still respecting the fact that he replaced and filled the shoes of someone very special. IN the end, Jake E Lee is also a very special guitarist of our time and deserves alot more praise than he gets.
@malikon6953Ай бұрын
Not to mention he wrote the songs. I love Ozzy, but somehow Ozzy always get credit for the songs that his guitar players write. Ozzy doesn't even usually write the words either. He's the figurehead. Iommi, Rhoads, Lee, Wylde,.. Ozzy has been blessed with so many guitarists who not only were incredible guitar players but great songwriters as well. And sadly according to reports and interviews Sharon seems to find a way to screw them all over.
@geemac7267Ай бұрын
If only Ozzy and (more importantly) Sharon had appreciated him like we all do. It's no secret now that Sharon was pretty dirty in her dealings with most people. She and Ozzy had a strange relationship. Similar to Ronnie James Dio and his wife. It's not really a good idea to have a woman (especially your wife) manage your band, if these two are any barometer.

I still remember the summer day back in 1986 at the age of 12 when my brother woke me up. He brought in a boom box and told me to just listen, then he hit play and the tape began playing. It was this album and from the first note all the way to the last, I just sat up in bed listening. I became a metal fan and aspiring guitarist that very day. This album and Jake’s playing changed my life forever. I still get the goosebumps hearing anything off this album to this day. Such a powerful album.

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle This is absolutely false, the proof is out there, Randy was very sloppy live and he could barely play his own material, while Jake was just phenomenal live, by far the best Ozzy ever had. Jake is obviously a more technical, more refined and accomplished shredder than Randy ever was, not to mention the stage presence and charisma, Jake was on another level.

Of all Ozzy's guitarists, Jake was the best musician. His note choices and arrangments were the most thoughtful, creative, and artistic. He left quite an impression on me when I switched from violin and classical music to guitar as an early teen. I never did see him as merely a guitar player, but someone who I put up there with my pantheon of composers. Such a pity that he is so underrated. He is such a humble man as well.

Saw Jake live only once, he was fearlessly bending the neck like you wouldn't think possible. I still don't understand how it didn't break. Compliments on being such a great guitarist, this stuff isn't exactly easy to reproduce. Well done!

The pinch harmonics are so clean and precise. Took me a long time of playing to be able to get them about anywhere that I wanted them, but they're just not that clean. I believe that hours and hours of practice is just not enough. There are some acrobatics that require precise timing and touch to pull them off perfectly. The touch is the part that you have or you don't. I had a friend who was just a natural freak. His progress was insane. He's been playing less than 18 months and he's getting a pretty solid handle on most of the Lynch solos from Tooth and Nail. I see him again in a month or so, and he's working on the Yngwie's Trilogy album, and it's coming along nicely. We were teens in the 80s. Graduated in 87. Was the greatest time to be a new guitar player.

I think Ozzy was just too fucked up to appreciate what was in front of him. And I think he was pissed, wrongful so, at Randy for not being there and Jake for being there even tho it wouldn't matter who it was cause it wasn't what Ozzy wanted which was Randy. Like we all compare the dead to whomever takes their place... I think that's natural but it's not right. I love Randy but I dig Jake more.... I like how Jake sometimes is nasty and in the slop while Randy was just fluid like SRV was before drugs.

I remember Sharon saying producer Ron Nevison messed up the production. It was a much heavier album but Nevison wanted more commercial appeal. Jake’s guitars are incredible on this album and his parts are quite heavy. The rest of the album doesn’t quite match his intensity. I believe that’s why Ozzy disliked it so.

So many incredibly talent musicians came out of the '80s. I won't say who's the best because I don't believe there's a way to categorize that. But I think it's legitimate to offer up our favorites. For me, apart from the elder statesman who got their start in decades previous, the axlingers that emerged in the '80s that really got my attention included Warren DeMartini, Chris DeGarmo, and Jake E Lee. I might throw in Nuno betancourt as an honorable mention not so much for his songwriting but for his virtuosity. PS about George Lynch, I loved his sound, and the way he used his overdrive when he did his solos, but there is something about the way he structured his solos They just really put me off, I just didn't feel like he composed them the way I liked to hear them but I'll tell you what I loved the way his rig sounded.
