Can we talk about what Jake has to say about the mirror for actors? That's incredibly profound and deep. When an actor is looking into a mirror in a scene, they have to face themselves as they are truly are and who they are portraying all at the same time. The mirror is the place where the actor has to act his or her best.

Some of those films came out in really ultra competitive years. I am totally onboard by the way, I rate him SO MUCH and I honestly believe he deserves an Oscar as recognition of his superb acting. Nightcrawler saw him up against Leo for the Revenant (winner), Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl - that’s a tough crowd and a top set of films. I might have had him in ahead of Cranston, because I personally dug Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler more, but I get it. Similarly with Southpaw, he was up against Redmayne again this time for The Theory of Everything (winner), Carrell for Foxcatcher, Cooper for American Sniper, Cumberbatch for the Imitation Game, and Michael Keaton for Birdman (that film won best picture), so again, tough crowd. I love the films you mentioned, and I also adored so many others of his. He is one of the best of this generation. He will ultimately win one, but likely not one he properly deserves it for - its a quirk of the system. Leo won for a movie I felt was nowhere near his best. He deserved an Oscar, just not for the Revenant. Same might happen to Jake.

Jared never claimed to be the best or the greatest at anything. Actually, he is quite humble and often says that he uses method acting because he is not a naturally gifted actor. On the other hand, Will Smith claims the title of the biggest movie star in the world. I know that his wife works as a PR person for Will Smith and it is she who gets the criticism when she is defending her husband's interests as was the boycott of the Oscars and this is because Will Smith doesn't have the guts to put himself on the line. For someone who says that life is lived on the edge, I guess he prefers to put his wife all alone on the edge.

My entire group of close coworkers were connected to him and his girlfriend, and I remember the days after the bombing, and making the connection, and feeling absolutely devastated for him to have gone to support his girlfriend and ending up losing his legs. It was a nightmare unfolding as I watched friends in anguish. But it became also incredibly neat to see his story highlighted with the power of that photo that was taken, the heroic story, and Jake Gyllenhaal playing him and his story being outlined in a film. I'll never forget it. I'm so glad they casted the story as they did with an actor that cared enough to go above and beyond to understand his person.

My gosh, being an Australian I think its soo crazy to think about how far Margot Robbie has come in comparison to her days on the Aussie show 'Neighbours' portraying a high school teen to roles which have made her known on a worldwide scale.

I really like what Gyllenhaal was saying about the link between actors (not all) and vanity that they try to get around. I like how aware and genuine he seems. He made a comment in another interview about how he's 'just an actor', which is so true, and something a lot of people (not just actors) seem to forget. Respect to him.

Ryan Parker I have nothing against her. She’s just isn’t anywhere NEAR Leo’s level. She’s just standard to me. But she seems like she has great potential and could change over the course of her career
