When you no longer see the actor as an actor, but as that character it's something truly special and rare. I didn't see Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler I saw Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler. It was easily one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Holy shit I just watched the movie, and as stunned as I am by how amazing and perfectly paced the whole thing was, I can only say: HOW UNFAIR JAKE GYLLENHAAL ISN'T NOMINATED FOR BEST FUCKING ACTOR Oh my god... I think that creepy ass gaze won't let me sleep tonight... If they ever, ever, EVER think about doing a Psycho remake (a proper one, not the one with Vince Vaughn), they should definetly cast Jake Gyllenhaal as Norman Bales

@nvstewart 4 жыл бұрын
What about Christian Bale? He went from extremely 'risk of health' skinny to buffed up months after for Batman Begins. In fact, he put on too much weight that some people said "We want Batman, not Fatman" so he then had to lose a few. Christian Bale is the king of body transformation. I think it was Nolan that said that he was not confident that Bale could increase his weight back up to where it needed to be in time for filming Batman but another crew member convinced Nolan that Bale was the man for the job and that he will be ready for filming.

@@TheReelHeel Actors use steriods to get shredded for movies, its just the reality of it and it's not a bad thing. They have a short window to get into great physical shape and look like professional athletes. You don't have to defend an actor for using steriods, no one is shaming them. The Rock is an obvious example of someone who uses steriods because all his roles are written for someone of his physique.

God stop being so dogmatic guys. The line between sociopath and psychopath is blurred, but they're on a scale based on lack of empathy and manipulative capabilities. Psychopaths display no/almost no empathy; sociopaths will display some. I would say that Lou Bloom's character was a psychopath. He doesn't show empathy for anyone in the movie. Find me one moment where he cares about anything other than himself and his career, he's a supreme narcissist: the bedrock of psychopathy. People tend to think, wrongly, that psychopaths are murderers and rapists. They can often be hard to distinguish until you know them.

Is it just me, or has Jake Gyllenhaal become one of the best actors in or out of Hollywood?! I mean every movie he is in is stellar, the mental, and physical transformations he endures for such a wide variety of characters is amazing! Each one of his very different characters are flawless. I remember seeing him in City Slickers as Billy Crystal's son, he has definitely risen to the very few ELITE actors today. I watch every movie with he is in, and to this day I have never been dissapointed! Keep up the awesome work man, I really appreciate how you bring these characters to life, you have raised the bar, and set the standard for Hollywood for a while now, and I'm confident you will only continue to shine!

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* *YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!* During the final moments of the movie, I had grown a hatred towards Lou Bloom (which I love the movie for making me feel so strongly towards a character like that). However, the particular scene where Lou tells his partner Rick to film the black SUV after the crash and instilling comfort within Rick that the guy inside was dead only to have him get shot three times had solidified my feeling of disgust towards Lou. Gyllenhaal did a fantastic job in slowly descending his character into the darker depths of the human psyche. During the final minutes of Rick's death, it had took me by surprise at how Lou had stooped so low and was so insensitive towards his partner that he sold him out for his financial gain. While a part of me had seen it coming, I was still hoping for a camaraderie between Lou and Rick. In the end, this movie truly brought out the disgusting and insensitive sides of these so called "stringers" and how they operate.

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT* *YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!* PCLOVER93 Another moment that stood out in that scene was when the shooter and Lou were just looking at each other. They shooter didn't fire at Lou, like he had had pretty much everybody else, but instead went on his way. For me, it was one of those moments where "evil recognizes evil," and they were in harmony. I'm also sad that in Rick's last moments of life, he was talking about his business ethics. Not being comforted, not saying anything important... It was just Lou justifying what he had done, and showing no emotions. Rick's last words were also, "I don't know." Really a sad moment in the movie. And like you, I completely saw it coming!!! When he went up to the car, I was like "OK, he's dead."

What kinda car is the actual stringer driving (newer model Toyota maybe)? I like the LED-lit keypad on the A-pillar next to the driver's side window

Jake is a phenomenal actor And I sincerely hope that Howard guy gets a taste of his own medicine one day, that's if there even is anyone in his life he cares enough about to fear losing. A "stringer" filming the mangled corpse of his mother or something with glee on his face.

I think they had to make the character psychopathic. I don't think this type of "job" should be justified.

I have seen this movie. its a must see movie. very good. but for me I had trouble taking it all in. which is a good thing. rare but good. I had to watch this movie 3 times to take it all in. on a scale 1-10 I give 8. but the acting of jake gyllenhaal I give a 10 out of 10. and yes this guy is that good.

Agreed. He’s outstanding; a good guy, a bad guy, an uneducated New York boxer, an astute San Francisco reporter - all diametric characterizations, all brilliant performances. I’ve never seen him in an interview until this video. Seems like a great guy in real life, too!
