He pretends to be Amy, so let's assume that Andy Samberg is playing Amy (somehow and for some reason) and then he has to "fall in love" with Jake's actor. Now pretend it's Jake and not Andy. Jake is playing Amy, and he's afraid to get into it totally but because he still looks like Jake but with Amy's feelings he doesn't want him to fall in love himself because Amy is in love with him. So if you're always yourself just as a different character you're not really acting as someone else impersonating someone else, you're just being you impersonating someone else. Like if captain Holt did an impression of peralta that would hold true because he's different in every role, unlike samberg. Still andy samberg is truly one of the funniest people to have ever lived.
