These are by far the best videos on KZbin in regards to small single Honda motors. Well done! I’ve used your series as a resource several times.

I would guess the new rings will eventually lap into those small groove in the cylinder walls. For economic reasons I think you made a good call on that intake valve since its already mated to the profile of its valve seat. I really like the way you improvise. In my shop I don't throw ANYTHING away because you just don't know when you will need that piece of scrap for a project like yours. You are a good mechanic. I have a Chinese made dual sport I bought new for a song and a dance. It was a piece of junk even as I built it new from the crate and there is something breaking on it all the time but I have managed to keep it alive for the past seven years using improvisation techniques like you.

Try and using a bottle of SeaFoam.. if you pour into a container, and soak parts, it'll clean all the carbon, oil, grease, dirt etc etc and make it new looking

After you put the valve in spray some lube or gas in the intake and exhaust ports and check for any leaked around the valve set ..to see if you can use the valve and is settled good

Nice of it to seize at TDC. Wouldn’t surprise me if a stuck ring was why it was running badly. I’d have left the piston and head in a pan of water on the boil for a few hours.
@zx8401ztv10 жыл бұрын
Ha ha your nuttyer than a squirrels belly :-)) You have done really well, i half expected the piston to be unusable. With new rings im sure it will work, im just not sure about the valves sealing, i would put the springs back on and try the water test. And talking to valves....... well the men in the white coats are coming for you lol.
@jenniesgarage10 жыл бұрын
zx8401ztv It's not my fault, it was talking to me first!! I was kind of worried about the piston, because of the abuse I gave it with the hammer, but it looks pretty good so we'll see what happens.

a good overnight vinegar bath would have helped and I like pb blaster for removing carbon.
@captainmanic1959Ай бұрын
A better way of removing the carbonized crud on the piston would be a soak in Gunk Hydro-Seal or Berryman Chem-Dip.

The problem with the intake valve is, if that edge is too sharp, it will attract too much heat and warp, the piston however, will last another 4 lifetimes.

I know this is a four year old video, so i doubt anyone cares anymore; You can be cheap, but you have to be within reason. Putting known bad parts back in that are less than 20 dollars to replace is really pushing it. It's some kind of reverse sunk-cost fallacy of "i didnt spend much on this bike, so im not going to spend much fixing it". We live in the land of things, and especially with the horizontal honda motors being basically universal, there is no excuse for reusing bad parts.
