Part 3 of the $60 honda CT90 project. This video focuses on freeing the rusted stuck piston and engine intake / exhaust valves. I had to use much more force than I would've liked to free the parts.

Hey jake on a side point, anyone ever said you've got the look of a young sly Stallone....

Very cool, Jake! I've just acquired a Honda 400 twin with an engine that looked decent on the outside, but is is stuck -- and I'm betting it's just the pistons. This vid offered some great tips, thank ya!

How luckys that! motor was stopped and parked while piston was on tdc!

Invest in a propane torch, A fabulous tool for working frozen parts loose. On the cylinder does he do cylinder all around for 1012 minutes. Spray the penetrant on the piston just as you did and let the heat dry the penetrate in. On the cylinder head ditto with the valve it will work like a charm. Patience to let the heat work.

New piston and rings, maybe valves, clean up the head a little and should be a runner.

I'm optimistic about it. The more stock parts I can keep, the better!

Thats brilliant!!, with patience/skill you have teased the parts out. And i dont mean blowing raspburys at them while using your hands as antlers ha ha :-))) You might be able to give the top of the clylinder a carefull rub with wire wool or brillo pad or 2000+ grade sand paper to smooth the rust down, i bet the piston would polish up as well :-)) If the big end connecting rod has no push/pull play then your really doing well :-))
@jenniesgarage10 жыл бұрын
Tease is definitely putting it lightly, but I think the parts will be ok (mostly haha). I was really happy with the feel of the big end bearing, if it turned out that the bike needed a crank, that would've been rough.

***** You did really well, i have frends that would not give a second thought to hitting the piston with a lump hammer, the engine would be distroyed. In your hands that engine will run again :-))

i reckon that frozone would also have been a good name for her

Did you end up selling this engine after the 125M swap?

@peytonmcadams75627 жыл бұрын
autoandcribtours mintcondition you blew it up. take the top end off, re-sleeve the cylinder, and get a new piston kit, if you're lucky that's it

autoandcribtoursspace mintcondition try and unseize the piston with wd40 and if that doesn't work try tapping on it with a wooden rod, when if you manage to free the piston check for scores on the piston and cylinder, and try and unstuck the piston rings without breaking them, if this doesn't work get a new piston, and also a cylinder if needed.
