Take the cylinderhead off and tap the extractor out from the bottom and then drill the sparkplug out till near to the threads. Once done pick at the remaining bits and it will come out. You taught me to start working on bikes; now I can give you advice :)

Since the metal of the sparkplug is harder then the aluminium of the head, you better be dead center with your drilling. (I failed miserably at that.)
@kyferez116 күн бұрын
@@rinkinkel Most likely it will be because the center of the plug came out so there already was a hole. However it doesn't matter cause if you are watching what you are doing, you will see if you get close to one side of the threads, and when you do stop drilling and start picking at it.

Right, because the heat will allow the extractor to sink into it without also applying as much outward pressure as a result of the softer metal giving way and cooling around the extractor.

The main reason is so that your neighbors and everyone in your neighborhood will hear you mowing YOUR lawn and in turn will say I think it’s time to start mowing OUR lawn. Secondly I’d say the reason you kept on trying is to show persistence. I commend you for it and for sharing your FAVORITE words of wisdom. 💚

The engine'd have to come out anyway so might as well do it now! I had 2 of these TL's and they can be a problem if allowed to sit outside but that's water under the bridge now. Pull the engine.... remove the head and soak the daylights out of the spark plug hole. Most any good penetrating fluid will work. Drill out the remains of the spark plug and YES you were right about the easy-out adding tightness to the spark plug!

Never try to Gorilla this stuff off it always ends up poorly, you have to be patient with this old rusted stuff. Use PB blaster and heat, but now you have to take the head off so you can get the extractor out, there is no drilling those out. I think you can still get it. If all else fails after you get the extracter out you can drill it out and use a helliocoil to repair the head, but try penetrating oil and heat first.
@VashStarwindКүн бұрын
Weld a bolt on the broken spark plug and after soaking it with pb blaster, it would probably come right out. The heat would help too.
@VashStarwindКүн бұрын
You could probably remove the cylinder head, and punch that remover out from the bottom. And then Id spray some PB blaster or some type of penetrating oil on the broken spark plug, and let it set for a day or two. That stuff is like magic. Then you could maybe weld a bolt on the broken threads of the spark plug and then that would give you something to twist it out with (It shouldnt stick to the aluminum but only the steel spark plug). Might have to weld the bolt on from the bottom (inside the cylinder) cause it would probably be a bit tight from the top. May be able to get ur mig gun in there tho.

It may be a little late, but aluminum expands twice as much as steel when heated. Maybe removing the head and heating it in a very hot oven might prove useful. It would have been better if you did that first though.

I was cringing when you began using that easy out. I had the same issue on a 1980 Honda CB900C I was restoring. I got the same exact results you did. I ended up just buying another head off of eBay. That plug was fused to that aluminum and nothing I threw at it made any difference.

A hot solution of alum (ammonium aluminum sulfate) will dissolve the steel without damaging the aluminum. It has to be at a low simmer temperature but you can watch the fizzing action until the steel dissolves. Not sure how you could isolate the part in the solution but I’m confident in your abilities!

Ever heard of un- seizing an engine, by making a spark plug base with a grease fitting welded atop it ? If the piston is near TDC, you can break them free by pumping grease into the cylinder top with a grease gun. Makes a mess, but doesn’t break pistons and things.

We bought into the electric yard tools. Everything's been mostly fine except when we had a tree fall right onto our house during a burly snowstorm and I needed a chainsaw to cut it all up, we bought one for $300 or $400, somewhere in there, that had battery compatibility with the existing ecosystem we'd already gotten into with our leaf blower and weed eater, etc... The thing came with a big battery and I was using it on the weedeater mostly, but now that battery is already dead. It won't hold a charge no more. I barely used the thing - and that's the catch. These batteries lose capacity if you don't use them. That battery didn't even last 2 years. The original smaller battery is still running, maybe because I used it more, but yeah it's a real bummer. Now I only have the little battery that can barely run the chainsaw at all, and I can tell that it's losing capacity too. It's pretty bad. I could've bought a gas chainsaw and I'd still be able to run it, it would still be usable. Right now I have to go buy a new battery again - and then what, that investment is burnt after another 2 years? I really don't believe that battery technology is where it needs to be for vehicles or anything serious at all. Maybe in 10 years they'll get the capacity degradation solved, and the dendrite and spontaneous combustion solved. Then I can vouch for it. I will say, though, that chainsaw did have some legit power and runtime per charge when the battery was new.
