Part of voting for them in the primary was voting for her to be the person to continue to be in the position of taking over should Biden not be able to continuw. How is this any different from that?

Also the primaries aren't really voting for a candidate regardless. Some states don't even require the delegates to vote the way the state did, some have caucuses, not primaries. Strictly speaking none of that matters because the nomination doesn't happen until the convention. All of the delegates in every state and commonwealth cast their vote for Harris. It was on Tapper's network; I'm pretty sure he saw it. The point at which voters cast their vote is in the general. everything else is just more elaborate versions of a straw poll.

When we voted for Biden in the general election, we voted for Harris too. She was on the ticket!! Stop saying we never voted for her. Yes we did. Yes exactly, 4 sitting US vice presidents have become president while in office, this is no different. 2 former VP's also won after leaving office, including Joe Biden. In my country we don't even vote for a Prime Minister, we vote for our local MP (like a senator). Whoever gets the most seats in parliament wins control of government, this avoids the problem that can happen in the US where one party wins the presidency but the other the house/senate and nothing ever gets done, it also means third parties can actually win seats. However this also means we often get Prime Minsters that "nobody" directly voted for, except registered members of that party. But in this case, both the public voted for Harris in 2020 and the party members/delegates in 2024, so I don't see the issue.

We don't leave the selection of the party leadership until the last minute either. When a party leader steps down, which can happen and does happen while they're in 'power', the party has an election to pick another leader almost immediately. If Trudeau was to step down now (Like his father did while he was Prime Minister - and there was no scandal even), we'd have a new prime minister within a few weeks who would then call an election for the Spring. If Polievre or Singh were to step down now, their party would have a new leader within weeks even if we weren't to have another election for years. Typically if a party leader steps down it's done within a couple of days of losing an an election that was within their grasp or if they've been at the helm of the party for a decade. We do politics for a half dozen weeks every 4 or 5 years.

As a European, I can also say that voting for different parties (in Sweden we have 8 parties that have made it into congress and over 100 parties that haven't of different sizes) instead of candidates (even if we can do that too) is helpful timewise. Unless outrageous, we don't give a crap who the candidate is, it saves time and is easier to look at what the party collectively wants instead of replying on the "Trust me bro" of one person 😅 from my point of view, the length of your elections screams "Let me gaslight you into beliving me by talking to you for so long you start liking me so much you forget what I represent!" a lot 😅 In Sweden, our response to that would be "Stop blabbing and do the damn job you gained from getting into congress. We will see what you stand for on the result of your actions and your ability to cooperate with others. We're busy!" 😂😅 But then again, you guys also seem to believe that your economy can be good even when the world economy is bad, that 4 years is long enough to ruin your entire country and is a make it or break it kind of thing (I'm not minimizing what's happened in the past btw, but you secure those issues by working in your community, because then crap like that won't fly either way, and yoir country won't break in 4 years no matter who wins), that everything you read on the Interwebs in the comments etc. actually represent the opinions of your people (as a librarian, I can tell you that what is written is bs, but beliving it's true does makes a huge difference and is why you feel so polarized - also Russia has a department for this bs, which would be insane if it wasn't Russia we're talking about), that the problems with your economy is such a short-term issue that Biden would be responsible for the bad that is still going on (👀👀), and that short-term solutions don't have massively bad long-term consequences, and don't seem to understand that high taxes isn't giving the government money for nothing but is giving them money with very clear expectations on what we will get back and is directly proportionate to the power the people hold, and probably one of the biggest powers we hold as a people because they get the money to run the country from the people, not from lobbying, and they lose their jobs if they don't meet our expectations. So there are way bigger problems at work with your system of governance and power of the people 🫠 Oh, and of course that you prioritize feelings and opinions over data, in Sweden we follow the research 😅 I hope you guys find your way, though ❤ You deserve peace, health, and unity, and we're rooting for you ❤

Tapper may be an affable guy on a personal level, but he's also one of the leading purveyors of Islamophobia and genocide propaganda (just behind the thinly - and sometimes not at all - veiled hatred espoused by his co-host, Dana Bash). I've lost all respect for him, and his appearance cheapens this show.
