I use an hibrid finger tab: half KSL tab (plate and cordoban) and the Fairwather finger spacer ring. Very confortable for me.

What a brilliant video! Finally, after owning a KSL tab for 7 years I now know how to set it up properly, it all makes sense now! I have adjusted the palm plate and finger spacer and can see that it is now positioning my fingers in exactly the correct way, so I am really thrilled about this! Also glad I held off trimming the leather as per the other video as I think that face would have ended up in the bin! Thanks Jake, top notch information yet again!

If you like the shiny brass look, you can use camelia oil which is commonly used for keeping carbon steel knives from tarnishing.

I’ve spent so much money on tabs! Bought the AAE KSL Gold (2 actually) a few year’s ago and keep returning to it, having tried several others in between. Your video has made a huge difference in the way I use this tab - it’s now much more effective in giving me a cleaner release since I trimmed the leather and rerouted the elastic as you’ve described. By the way, next time you’re talking to AAE, you might suggest they zinc plate the brass parts - the natural green patina which develops doesn’t do the leather a lot of good. Otherwise, this is the best tab on the market - I particularly like the heavier weight of it (bought the brass palm plate on your recommendation) and the ability to replace all the individual parts is fantastic. I have just bought one of these tabs in the UK. For other folks' info, there are four different sizes of hex keys required to set this up, and they are Imperial sizes, not Metric. If I've worked out the keys correctly, you need 1/16", 5/32", 5/64" and 7/64". Keys are not supplied with the tab.

Dear Jake, Thank you for this excellent video. The instructions for the AAE KSL Gold Finger Tab with brass palm plate and cordovan is very well done. Please help me find measurements of the whole Tab Base plus Palm plate so that I can better select the small or medium. The downloadable instructions on the AAE site have no measurements to assist proper size choices for those of us living far from a comprehensive archery shop. Great video with all the necessary details and instruction! Jake shot the very first prototype we made at the Olympic Training Center in 2007 and knows every detail backwards and forwards. The KSL Gold Finger Tab has specific shape and contour to facilitate precise finger, hand, and wrist positioning to make your best release with the most back tension. After we made the first models, archery companies around the world have tried to copy the design innovations. The cordovan tab face on my personal tab has hundreds of thousands of arrows shot and still functions perfectly. Set this tab up correctly and you will get years or even a decade or more of use.

I was hoping you would get into trimming the leather to the optimal length, and what to do with the excess strap after tightening it on your fingers. Probably obvious what to do for many people, but it would be great for simple folks like me to have it spelled out.

Great video, really well explained. Quicks sell these tabs and it will replace my WandW EZ tab - no spares for the EZ but AAE is good for spares; also a key advantage.

Two points: Buying anything other than Cordovan leather for the face of your tab is a false economy. I used super leather and hair faces, both of became twisted and creased very quickly. I spent the extra money on Cordovan and its wearing like armor while still being pliable, comfortable and providing a good surface for the string. I can't recommend enough the Jager finger spacer. Its much more comfortable than any stock spacer I've tried and the "T" configuration locks your fingers against the tab.

Great video! And the follow-on video with the strap routing was perfect 👌… Would it be possible to do a video focusing more on the USE of the tab after setup? I was thinking on elaborating a little bit on hand and finger placement in the tab, and especially tab placement on the string. It’s not 100% intuitive, how to index the KSL tab for optimal consistency, in relation to the nocking points.

Just got the W+W ez tab. My hook hand is nice and relaxed and as I come up to execution, because my hand shape 'c' away, the palm plate feels like its floating. When I try and keep the plate in contact with my palm, I am introducing a whole load of tension. Spoke to another archer who found the same thing. Any advice?

Unfortunately, AAE seem make the length of the elastic exactly the same for all sizes of tab. So the ‘loop the end over all fingers’ JK uses here isn’t possible on the Large size tab. Instead I’ve re-installed the metal loop-catch

Hi Jake, my new tab has just arrived, i am trying to follow your video on set up, can you confirm with your suggested set up that you will have to screw through the black elastic so it sits flush, you started out showing what to do with the elastic but did not finish showing how to finish off the loping of the elastic.
