Originally this sword was suppose to be a big bowie and ended up turning into a Harpoon sword. I designed this knife as I went and the result is very unique. I used a rusty leaf spring from the junk yard to make this beautiful sword.

When I got the notification for this vid some five minutes ago as I compose this comment I gnashed my aged teeth in pique for a moment. Reason was that I'd latched on to the terms "harpoon" and "rusty leaf spring" in the description and I thought that you had beaten me to a pet project that I've been promising myself for when I retire in August 2019 - namely "The Hemingway". I will explain. When I was a youngster I was somewhat enthralled by reading "The Old Man and The Sea" by the great Ernest Hemingway. Without going on at length about the virtues of this book - except to say that it was admirably short - there was one detail that particularly fired my imagination and that I remember still some forty five years later. The Old Man who fished in the Carribean Sea owned a Harpoon that he had made from an old leaf spring. A little different from your project for which I am grateful and maybe I will do it yet! All the best and thank you for all the great content. I would love to see you build the "William Gibson Bridge" project which is another one I've promised myself a stab at.

I definitely like it. I'd prefer a slightly curved offering myself, maybe a full length sword of this same style. Blade 24-30 inches maybe. Still a really unique and interesting piece. Also if you sharpen the back side of that harpoon hook that would make a good gut hook if you were going to make a slightly smaller version, which would be useful for a hunting knife. I REALLY like the ease of making the D guard with a file like that. Very clever.

Damn! That is one bad blade. Nice recovery! I'm loving way you've got the rasp teeth on the guard oriented so as to trap the edge of the attacker's blade instead of it glancing off. I see what you meant about the "issues" you ran into. Those leaf spring sections cut at the locator pin hole have a slightly wedge shaped edge profile. Anyway I'm going to go and watch the rest of the vid now 'stead of rambling on.

Hey Jake, just got my first burn haha, I was forging a knife, I'm holding the metal with a pliers (I know it's a bad idea) when suddenly the metal slip to the pliers and hit my face. IDK maybe its about a 1000°c and It leave a nice little red and white scar. Still hoping it will heal. Would it heal??
