I have to say, after picking up Noir and feeling like I was facing a super steep learning curve to get the app to do what I suspected it _could_ do, your simple comment “so it’s important that this is an AU extension because it is really _one_ drum voice, so you will want to have a _bunch_ of these” really, truly helped me get my head around Noir. In retrospect it seems so obvious, but I was super stuck thinking of this app just like Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM and I was really frustrating myself trying to get the sounds I wanted out of one instance via pitch and velocity mod. Jakob, thank you for helping me out. :D

Bram Bos is king, Ripplemaker is my favourite Synth FULL STOP, I am somewhat disappointed you didn’t cover it upon release but perhaps I should be grateful, as it the cornerstone of my sound’s character nowadays. Noir is just another example of his brilliant app design. Both apps show a different way from what the vast majority have done before.

I get that your disappointed and I’m sorry I couldn’t accommodate you. However I haven’t reviewed any Modular synths on this channel ever simply because I no longer have the patience to use them. I used modular a lot on the past both hardware and virtual ones and I’m just too tired of that type of workflow. I’m not saying I that I’ll never review a modular ever again ... it jut feels like enough time hasn’t past yet in order for me to get excited about a modular synth.

Only recently moved to iPad and damn the music apps are a whole world ahead of android. Guess they pay a lot more so makes sense. Got the moog app and it blew me away,, this next then that Waldorf wavetable app, perhaps the electribe sampler then maybe aum to gel it all together. Any iOS suggestions appreciated 👍 What’s your favourites?
@JakobHaq Жыл бұрын
Yeah you can’t go wrong with AUM for live jams, experimentation and instant fun. It’s like a modular system but for plugins and MIDI. It’s very special. However it’s not a conventional DAW with arrangement window view. If you need that then look at Cubasis,m or Logic Pro for iPad. . If you need more fun Groovebox type app then check out Pure Acid and Grooverider GR-16. They are both amazing. I have a video about Pure Acid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJaWYah6Yr15d5Y . Further more there’s Drambo which is a groovebox, daw and modular synth platform. Absolutely crazy good! . If you’re looking for synthesizers then ButterSynth is one of the most powerful hybrid synths out there. I have a video on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5CzhXh8lMqigbM . One of the best when it comes to wavetable synths. . Another powerful hybrid synth is Nambu. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJaXZqWwatuNb5I . If you want a fat sounding synth without needing deep modulation and stuff then Trooper is mad too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGTKnmaVhrikpck . When it comes to effects and stuff there’s just too much to mention. But I recommend the whole line of FabFilter plugins for iOS. My favs are Saturn 2 and Timeless 3. Timeless video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJuzm6yigJKMncU . Welcome to the world of iOS music making. It’ll take a lifetime to explore the vast variety of plugins. . Also welcome to my Channel. I don’t post as often as other channels. I value quality and in depth content over quantity. It’s a good place when you want to deep dive into what makes certain apps special.

Thank you for your amazing videos, and for inspiring me to get this app, I already use it in my workflow, but very primitively . I have been able to use your VCO balance trick to make different drum sounds, but I am still quite confused on the mechanism of what’s actually happening. Having the slider all the way up when the pitch mod on the VCO is off therefore puts all the signal on one VCO as opposed to the other? Up until now, I’ve been using the sliders to change the pitch with the pitch moD on, so do they have a dual function, changing both the pitch if the pitch mod is on, or the VCO balance if thr pitch mod is off?

... I was waiting for your review on NOIR ... I’m a Patterning Drum Machine Addict but I could use NOIR to design complex and original drum kits and them import into Patterning by Olimpia . Patterning has eight channels which works excellent for me , NOIR will let me design more complex drum kits . This two will complement each other nicely... I believe!!! Jacob! , what about exporting the drum kits design in NOIR ??? , what are the options. Thanks 🙏

Me too, not really keen on sequencing, just making samples, what’s the easiest way? Everything I can think of seems long
@787UrbanApparel5 жыл бұрын
Purplex Borg ; Base on his review, NOIR is only one channel instrument ... I will only use it to sound design and them export into Patterning , which has 8 channels. Drum Samples making is much easier in Patterning Drum Machine... it has increased my productivity by 400% . I truly recommend it ... they also have Patterning 2 , was released a few months ago , not much has change but now you can change Drum Kits on the fly .
@JakobHaq5 жыл бұрын
Whenever I make “single shot” samples I always use something like Cubasis where I can record loads of sounds from AU3’s and other apps. I’ll then, cut, paste, layer and fix fades of each sound. After that I export it to AudioShare where I collect all my samples. I like having a good overlook of all my sounds. AudioShare makes sharing easy too since a lot of apps support direct import from AudioShare (some even support importing entire folders like KORG Gadget, Launchpad etc ...) and Audioshare fully supports the “open in command”.
@787UrbanApparel5 жыл бұрын
Jakob Haq ; Nice ! , NOIR has an export preset tab ??? , I believe I saw it on the corner right up . I will get it today along with Patterning 2 ... I still do my mix on desktop 🖥 Audacity DAW , because of my studio monitor speakers 🔊 are already plug 🔌 and play . But samples I finger them on my IPad and IPhone 📱 and them exports via email. I did my last mastering with Final Touch App , Love It 😍!!!

There are a few apps that can do that like Beatmaker 3 for instance. My favourite one is Cubasis though. Why? Because that’s what I use to produce most of my music. I used to be a Cubase (desktop) user for many many years before I switched over to iOS. So naturally I started using Cubasis when I found it. Ive got two really detailed throrough videos on AUv3 automation inside Cubasis. Here’s the main one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajJeWuNjd2ZjNU . Hi Jakob, which drum machine app would be great to create some glitchy drums like aphex twin and squarepusher? Thanks
@JakobHaq4 жыл бұрын
Well, both Aphex and Square made their stuff by cutting up samples and putting them together. However there are today apps that can do some really glitchy stuff. You might want to have a look at Axxon by Audio Damage Inc. It’s an AUv3 drumsynth sequencer and it has the ability to produce some really weird and messed up stuff. . Also, check out GlitchCore (AUv3 FX plugin) by Alex Mathieu. It’ has AU Multi I/O. It chops up stuff. While you’re checking out that one, also check GlitchBreaks (made by the same guy). This is a much older app (no AUv3) it might also actually be what your looking for. . If you need some stutter stuff then check out Perforator (AUv3 FX plugin) by Bram Bos. And while you’re looking at his apps, check out Scatterbrain Audio splitter (AUv3 FX plugin). It has AU Multi I/O support. It chops stuff up too like GlitchCore but different.

Jakob, how did you map your controller to the knobs in Ruismaker Noir? Looked all over for settings on the app, checked the manual. I know I am an old slow guy but help me please.
@JakobHaq5 жыл бұрын
No problem, I’ll try to clarify. You might have missed it but as I’m stating in the video: “Noir doesn’t have midi learn, no, it has a ‘set’ number of #CC values for each of the controls of Noir”, meaning you can’t change the values inside Noir. . These are ‘set’ and unchangeable. So you’re going to have to map your MIDI controller instead by feeding the correct #CC values into your MIDI controller. . I was using a KORG nanoKEY Studio and had to use the editor for it, to put those #CC numbers into the knobs I wanted to use with Noir. The correct #CC values can be found inside the Noir manual on page 9 and 10.
@slimbeaux5 жыл бұрын
@@JakobHaq Saw those in the manual. You can, as Rodolfo Ruiz pointed out in the iPad Musicians group, also load it in to AUM and take advantage of the Midi Learn in that app to do it too. I was very please when I saw that. Of course that means that now I am going to have to really learn AUM. Glad that I know where there are some good teachers.

One thing I hate about “nowadays” iOS drum apps, is how they’re all electronic. What happened to good ol’ drum samples and a nice layout and workflow like DM1? I wish I could try DM2 (looks a lot like DM1 but apparently it’s from another dev??? Weird), but it’s not on iPhone and my iPad is way too old (running iOS 8 on it lol). BeatHawk is the closest I’ve come and I’m not really sold on it, it’s not bad but i just... I wish there were better AUv3 drum sampled apps.

Didn't get the balance knob part. Why does it play one OSC one time and the other one the other time? What does the knob balance between? The first 8 and the last 8 parts of the sequencer?
@JakobHaq5 жыл бұрын
It balances the volume output between Osc 1&2.
@VictorSteiner5 жыл бұрын
Jakob Haq yes but how can it only play the one Osc and then the other without you changing the setting in between?
@brambos93705 жыл бұрын
VictorSteiner in short: pitch mod makes something dependent on the pitch you’re playing. In this case: high note = more osc1, low note = more osc2 :-)
@JakobHaq5 жыл бұрын
But it is changing the settings since we’ve set it up in a way so that the mix gets modulated by the placement of the balls/nodes in the sequencer.
