I have had some requests for cooking videos so I thought I would share this recipe. These little quail breast poppers are a fantastic way to cook quail.

Love the shirt! I also love your videos! Because of your great instructional videos I have bought 50 quail! First time but I am so excited to see them grow and put eggs and meat on the table. Thanks again for the great videos!

Thank you so much for the video! I make variations of this with dove breasts on the BBQ and they are fantastic. I can't wait to try this with my quail. My first hatch isn't old enough to eat yet but they are growing quickly and I have more eggs in the incubator so we will be eating lots of quail soon. Please keep the cooking videos coming, they are appreciated!

Good idea, i need to find some ways to use up my pepper harvast of this year. My sister in law and her husband picked 17lbs of them and took home and i picked 10lbs once i pulled the plants. Pickled 12 jars and put a few quart bags of cut up peppers in the freezer
@Slightlyrednecked2 жыл бұрын
Nice. That is a lot of peppers for sure. Congratulations.

@@Slightlyrednecked best harvest ever. Alls i did was forget about the plants i might have picked some off once then let them go and never touched them until september.

I had this exact thing at a restaurant the other night. First time I've ever eaten quail. It was amazing! Definitely looking forward to raising my own Coturnix and cooking from this recipe :) I absolutely love your videos, I'm always learning something new! I sent my dad your channel, considering he wants to raise quail, rabbits, and to grow a vegetable garden. Great content, from a fellow Missourian!

Thanks so much for the kind comments. I am kind of disappointed that you had this at a restaurant though, I thought I was pretty clever for creating it. ;)

Slightly Rednecked For all I know they could have seen this video! It was an "off the menu" item (I asked what quail options they had) so it might just be something they thought looked good from your channel (and it was. Holy crap!) It's a family-ran cajun restaurant, so nothing too fancy really. I'm definitely considering getting quail because of you though. I'll probably get a pair of button quail for pets so that I won't get attached to the coturnix so much!!!

Long time watcher, first time cooking video viewer... First off, LOVE the shirt. Second, love the cooking video as it starts to give us ideas for what can be done with the birds we will be raising. As another option, could you do a breading around the poppers, to make a breaded quail jalepno popper? Looks like you could approach this with a number of variants. Looks great by the way? With the legs that you cut off and cooked separately, could these be cooked up similar to chicken wings? How would their taste compare to doing them in a chicken wing style?
@Slightlyrednecked7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind comments. The flour option is a good idea. I considered that myself and may have to give it a try. I think they would need to be browned in a skillet before being wrapped with bacon or going in the oven though. The legs can be done similar to chicken wings but there is no skin on them so it is a little different. I would bake them rather than fry them though. I may be wrong but I think they would pretty much shrivel up to nothing if you through them in a fryer. And they would be very tough (just a guess though). They are similar to chicken wings but a little tougher meat. My wife likes them, the picky eater in the house likes the breasts better.

Thanks alot now im hungry again! I wonder if dominoes will deliver a quail, bacon, jalapeno and cheese pizza? This reminds me of the fact that i didnt buy any seeds to start jalapeno peppers. Great video as always!

lol. I need to buy seeds too. I have been saving jalapeno seeds for several years but I lost the ones I saved last year.....too bad, they were some very good peppers.

Want to cook these with the quail meat at medium rare. How long would it cook in the oven at 400 degrees?
@Slightlyrednecked Жыл бұрын
Good question. I would have to guess at it though. I am guessing at 400 degrees it would be about 10 minutes. You may have to experiment and test that out though.

@@Slightlyrednecked Thanks. I’ll try it. And I would want with bacon too, so I guess I have to partially cook or parboil the bacon too.

On your other video about cleaning quail you cut the backbone out with scissors and opened it up to clean the guts outs. How did you get the guts/lungs out on these with backbone still intact?
@Slightlyrednecked7 жыл бұрын
I did these the same way. They didn't have a backbone.

I am doing something wrong Chris, your birds are twice the size of mine. Great recipe I am doing them tonight. OK, just a note on bird anatomy because I am a nerd. In the breast, it is the keel or carina bone in bird anatomy is an extension of the sternum (breastbone) which runs axially along the midline of the sternum and extends outward, perpendicular to the plane of the ribs.
@kennethmitchell27853 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I heard “spine” and “backbone”. I’m guessing the spine was removed when butchering as that’s how I butcher the quail I raised. Looks delicious

I've cooked two batches of quail and they both were bland and bleh. This seems my style. Try the 3 hearts stuffed in jalepeno. I love spicy and it's my favorite.
@Slightlyrednecked7 жыл бұрын
I like the hearts but i usually just saute them in bacon grease with some onions and garlic. Stuffing them in jalapeno's is a great idea. I am going to have to give that a try.

Love the shirt. And for those that got butt hurt over a shirt, that's your problem. I love guns. Guns don't kill people, It would be like blaming the car, when a drunk driver kills someone, or blaming the knife when someone stabs someone.

@tropicallivingoverseas52027 жыл бұрын
It's just that it isn't a valid argument. The two countries on the planet with the most guns per capita has the most gun deaths and mass shootings. To use your "shirt argument", the country with the most advertising for processed unhealthy foods, has the highest obesity rates. You're the one who decided to politicize your recipe video and attracted a reaction. But! That quail looks damn good!!!
@Slightlyrednecked7 жыл бұрын
Well, the quail was delicious. :) I certainly didn't intend to politicise the video. Really didn't pay much attention to the shirt I was wearing. I don't 'mind the reaction and am always open for some respectful friendly debate. It is a perfectly valid argument. A gun is a tool. It doesn't do anything on its own. It is the person using the tool that is to blame. Take the gun out of the equation and murderers will find another way to murder. People will still die even if there are no guns. Plenty of people were killed well before guns were ever invented. There are mass murders all around the world that don't involve any guns.
