I have been meaning to do this Meg. I have been unwell, unable to ride for nearly 2 years and your vlogs gave me my much needed horsey fix - honestly you don't know how much they helped. I'm now better and riding my beloved horse again, but I am still addicted to your vlogs. A small contribution to your vets fees and a thank you - Emily xx

Oh my word, this is so generous of you. Please don’t feel you have to donate though, vet bills sadly are a reality of horse ownership so I always try and have a reserve for them. Thank you so much though, and for your lovely comment. I’m so happy to hear you’re back in the saddle. Your support means the world to me ♥️

My horse got diagnosed with really bad compartment syndrome on his right hind suspensory on August 24th, he also did it from being an idiot in the field. He was worse off than Jam, and with small paddock turnout and 3 rounds of shockwave and PRP he is almost completely back to normal. I know how hard it is but from personal experience just keep your head up! You have amazing vets in your corner and like you said you caught it early, all that matters is that you're doing the best you can ❤

Sorry about Jammy! When I FINALLY bought my first horse I sent him to a trainer and he got some sort of a puncture wound on his front right leg so deep that he was out for the next 6 months while it healed. 😢 Ive been disappointed by an injury as well and I can feel for you!! I'm praying for you guys!!

Secret...some of the longest racing horses who had to live in stalls...were worked first thing in the morning...and as they stayed in their stalls all day...they got more hyper and rested....but when given a beer.... were able to chill out and relax...so take that and use it as you will...but i am a total fan of external.ways of getting a horse to rest when most needed. ❤❤❤

You are so lucky that Jam’s injury was mild, and that you caught it early. Sadly, two years ago my heart horse Senior mare came in from the paddock lame. The vet was called out immediately, and did an ultrasound. Unfortunately, my mare had somehow managed to make a small tear in one of the ligaments (can’t remember which one) in her left front leg. She was put on stall rest, and only allowed to have 10 minute hand walks on flat ground. Months passed with multiple vet visits and ultrasound of the damaged leg, and it seemed to be healing. My mare, Landra, was allowed longer and more frequent hand walks, then eventually having one of her daily walks under saddle while wearing the Equibands. She also had to do a few sets of raised walk poles every day. After almost a year of this (as well as the use of other therapies such as MagnaWave, cold hosing, and topical creams), Landra was FINALLY allowed to do a bit of light trot and canter work with a very lightweight rider. She seemed sound and it appeared that Landra would be able to go back into her regular work. Then she suddenly turned up lame again. The vet did another ultrasound and found a NEW tear just above the old, healing one! No one had ANY idea how this happened, since Landra had been on stall rest with NO turn out for a year. So we started the entire process over again, and even sent Landra to a University veterinary hospital for some more intense procedures, such as stem cell therapy and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections into the torn ligament. Tragically, after two years of trying literally everything possible (and living through the prognosis starting out as likely to be able to return to regular work, then most likely to only be ridden in the flat, which then devolved to hopefully being able to take her on walking trail rides around the farm, to the current diagnosis that Landra has to retire completely. She can still go on hand walks, but she will never be rideable again. The whole process has been heart breaking for me, as Landra has always been the favorite of all my horses, and the most fun to ride and successful at competitions. The poor girl can’t even go retire in the retirement pasture bc she has insulin resistance issues and can’t be allowed to graze freely. So my poor girl has been stuck living in her stall for about two years now, now with only short hand walks and brief hand grazing. I am attempting to build a small dry run outside of her stall, so the outside door can be left open, and Landra can at least wander in and out of her stall as she pleases. It is definitely NOT the outcome I had prayed for, but I’m glad that even though the injury was career-ending, it wasn’t life-ending. At least I get to spend time grooming, grazing, and generally fussing over my ❤ horse… I am praying that Jam’s injury heals very quickly, and that she is able to return to her career with time and good management. But I totally understand how you are feeling right now. Luckily for you, Jam’s prognosis seems to be very good. I will pray for a speedy recovery for Jam, and for strength for you. Best of luck!❤

Injuries like this are always super scary. Sounds like a pretty good result from what could have been a lot worse. My mare did a bad check ligament injury a couple of years back and the diagnosis required six months box rest and then see whether she could be ridden again. As she was 18 at the time and a loopy TB we decided to do 6 weeks box rest to give her a head start, then turned her out for early retirement. A year down the line she was totally sound again (not competition level possibly) from a far worse injury so fingers crossedfor Jam too, but it was one of the most stressful and emotionally draining periods of my life, so really be forgiving to yourself if you're worried and stressed. Having other horses to focus on will help keep you busy and distracted so you dont get tempted to rush the rehab. By the sound of it Jam will recover well from this which is a massive relief!!! But in the meantime, thoughts are with you because injured horses are immensely stressful times!! Sending love and healing vibes!! Xx

I'm in Canada and we had a week of nonstop rain 2 weeks ago and my gelding came in with holes around the top of each hoof where the mud was just eating away at the fresh hoof growth and the hoof wall was starting to separate from the sole and getting filled with mud and dirt so I had to get the farrier to carve out the dirt as much as possible. He's also on box rest until he grows a bunch of hoof back and until then he is going to wreck havoc in his boredom 🤦‍♀️🙃🐴

My gelding who at the time was 24 damaged over 50% of his SDFT and part of his check ligament. He was three legged lame and his leg was so swollen. After 2 months stall rest, and another 2 months of rehab we hit the 16 week mark and he was sound. Being that extent of an injury he never came back 100% but he is now 25 and we showed all year. Injuries are a pain and a bit devastating but it sounds like good news that you caught Jammys early.

So sorry to hear this, Meg! Hoping for a speedy recovery. Have you tried Incrediwear polo wraps? My gelding had an injury in his right hind and really struggled with stocking up and lymphatic drainage. The Incrediwear wraps are infused with fibers that increases circulation and lymphatic drainage, and you can hose them off and they become cold - not as cool as ice boots, but still cold! I've found after every use, my gelding's legs would always always be improved. It's not a cure by any means, but they certainly help in the interim while they're healing. Food for thought! Good luck!! 💜

My connie when he was five did both high suspensory ligaments in both hind legs, did it being stupid in the field!! He didn't cope with box rest and would have ended up doing more harm than good, so with paddock turnout in the size of stables worked for him where he could see the others. We went for the option of shockwave treatment then gradually building up the work starting with in hand walking. That worked well for him and you wouldn't know any difference now. He is now 25 and still acts the goofball in the field though!

My horse did this exact injury but in a back foot, she completely blew hers through, (and living in the north of scoltand i had to travel her 4 hours to be scanned) she made a full recovery and it back jumping and loving life! She needs to stay in work so she doesn't go stiff but positive thoughts to you and jammy! Love watching your vids

Meg, I can definitely relate to you at the moment, my mare came in completely lame a few weeks ago. I was absolutely terrified that she had gone bonkers in the field, fortunately my farrier said it was a bruised sole she had probably trod on a large pebble in the field, any way I put her on box rest for a few days, she was slightly better after a week but still lame, my livery friends said to get the vet out but my instincts were to give her time to heal, so I followed my own heart and after 2 weeks got my farrier back out to look at her. And guess what, it wasn’t a bruised sole but an abscess in the hoof, it had completely healed up by its self and she was walking fine on it now, I was totally shocked because she didn’t need any poltis or anything I just kept it clean and lots of rest. Hope jam heals up soon I think her being in foal as well she needs to rest a bit too much running around is never good. Xx
