It's rough man cause what I make in 4 months here it would take 2 to 3 years in Jamaica, and that's the reason for me to work in the state.

Pertinent discussion on a hugely relevant topic.. roun 2:13 mark even baby agree... I listen from start to finish and it's sad fi true that this has become the reality on the ground in Jamaica for the majority, far as I can tell, no country is a perfect 'utopia', however it would seem or sound to me from the elders that closer to 'independence', we had the potential to be very close. Jamaicans are known to be some of the most ambitious, hardest working folk you can find and we love this land but here lies a history full of exploitation and forced labour so there are perhaps several more historical and sociopolitical contextual nuances to properly consider and address within this matter. It would seem to me as though we lack the collective will and cohesion to move forward in earnest as a country.. imagine for eg, after enduring everything for centuries we can't even agree to move to become a republic.. Jamaica govt still a run back a Charles III... Hon. Marcus surely turning in him grave more time when him see wah gwan. The Youths nowadays all have access to info, they are very educated and literate, yet many aren't afforded the opportunities that would seem to be the most basic requirements expected of their foreign counterparts who may even be less qualified in a respective field or discipline.. they can hear and observe much more from the wider world as a result of globalization and in turn, all these little things cumulatively take a toll on one's morale and sense of national pride, and it is slowly eroded as they grow more discouraged and disillusioned until at some point they are labeled 'detached'. As a Yard man myself, one who has a little experience w the "1st world" standards of living, particularly in Switzerland. Its become even easier for me to recognize the cliché that Youths mostly will model and adopt behaviours from their immediate environments and surroundings hence to live what they learn, in our case and in my opinion a revolutionary popular culture shift is truly what's required on the island, ideally with emphasis on healthy socialization programs for the family unit and much more priority given to certain economic safety nets and development programs for the so-called vulnerable Youth, we must adopt a disciplined stance.. even within the wider region also that far less or perhaps someday, none of our children will become statistics or fall victim to crime any longer, it may sound like a hypothesis or pipe-dream but it's become more obvious than ever before that things have gotten so rotten in JA esp w murder and corruption that something must be done, almost like now or never and we the people will have to do it. So as much as we all love life and all want to be secure and rven enjoy luxury, we can't really blame those of us for being able to seek out greener pastures and ultimately find opportunities there for greater upward economic mobility all in the name of self preservation, if we were to all cower and run away what else would become, or remain of our likle rock, honestly? My first unpopular suggestion recommendation which was met w laughter and ridicule was to permanently BAN the import of ALL firearms and ammunition into the island, indefinitely and with the inclusion of the security forces, obviously we cannot handle said guns and the problems they carry so we need to adopt a strict Australian style "bring in the guns policy" and return to the stoneage for all intentions and purposes, at least for now, we are not presently in the business of going to war with another country nor quite frankly are we even in a position to properly repel a foreign invasion, God forbid. Overall tho, the truth in what u shared here still echo my heart sentiments and certainly that of so Many other Jamaicans in these times an hit the nail on the head w regard to our general feelings, I'm sorry this got so lengthy but is a personal passion point for I. The notion that everyone in Jamaica today for instance is traumatized and needs some degree of therapy from amnesia, bipolar, depression, anxiety you name it. I oftentimes literally say dat in the streets whenever reasoning w ones and ones.. in the meantime still, give tanks fi life and we deya a gwan wul it. Stay safe an warm. PS I love off the I dem natural hair thonfi real it a workk blessed love queens keep it burning same way. 1 love

I have done some research and it shock me that even Mexico is way more affordable than Jamaica. My mum died in the healthcare system February 2022 and a major part of it has to do with the doctors and nurses attitude, power of dismissing love ones concerns and questions as well as their nonchalant behaviour . Yet Doctors can be so entitled when they walk into any institution to do business or seek services. The Healthcare system is no better than a slaughter house, a lot of deaths that happen in there could have been avoided. I have to agree with Aunty Sherret, mental health is a serious issue here which people refuse to address and the people who determine the direction of the country act blind to this situation. Nepotism in the work place, classism and favouritism is one of the main reason they're experiencing quiet quitting and brain drain here. Another issue is Customer Service is a torture. Mindset is key and I know for sure I will never feel insignificant in another country of my choice, once there is good customer service in the Public and the Private sector, accessibility to good healthcare exists. Then I will do what it takes to create good quality of life and cover my monthly cost of living and put the little investment aside for retirement. Nothing else no matter how bad others see it, will make me come back to Ja. once the time comes.

Hi Danelle: What is your impression of Sweden. There is a youtube video entitled 'What is it like being a Jamaican Living in Sweden' . A lady in the video says Jamaican should not go to the US or Canada but consider emigrating to Sweden or the Scandinavian countries in general. She also mentioned Norway and probably Finland. She says those countries are doing something right. She seems to imply that it is possible to get by with English. She also said that the Language was the biggest barrier to her. I think she is a teacher. There is another lady in the video who says she knows Swedish. They mentioned that there are about 400 Jamaicans living in Sweden. They live in Stockholm.

What a wonderful discussion… great job. There were a few slippery slope arguments, but otherwise lots of food for thought.

Yall need to get off that plantation. Its 2022. The US is open and nowhere near as disturbing as that. Jamaica was just a slave island like most of the West I dont understand why Jamaicans are so attached to it, Jamaicans dont even run the country. So why even think of working like a slave for people who dont know or care about you? This is why some people claim slavery is a choice.

This was a great topic and I believe it’s the time we are living in. It’s a desperately wicked time. Full of greed and the wealthy only care about themselves. This issue isn’t only happening in JA, it’s happening in many parts of the world. I agree that Jamaicans are leaving for opportunities elsewhere because the country is falling apart. The poor is getting poorer and the rich, richer. The People want to live comfortably and happy too. It shouldn’t be only for one group but for all!

I am confused. You said the country is falling apart? I thought it was always forced into poverty as a colony of the UK? When was Jamaica progressing and prospering? (Serious question I really want to know) I could only guess during tourism seasons.

Because of my work i get the privilege to see many beautiful places in Jamaica so i can proudly say Jamaica is a beautiful island. Next thing, i don't think its mostly because of the lack of jobs why people leaving here. It is a factor but i think the main thing is crime and voilence. How i see it, even if you have a very successful business and well off you have to be wise and act like you're poor becauae the little pissing tail youth on the corner who consciously chose not to work coming for his share out of your business. Thats just one point. 2. The cost of living is way too high 3. We lack money management skill so we buy stuff we don't need and we try to save for a rainy day instead of learning to invest our money. So instead of letting our money work for us we work to spend money. I mean i could go on and on but let me shut up for now and watch the rest of video.

I think its simple. Jamaica is a colony of the UK, it is ran like a plantation. Few elites and almost no vertical integration. In the States we actually allow vertical integration and run a sovereign country. We are all blacks in the West. These topics always conjure up the reality of the difference between blacks that moved north and western versus the ones who stayed in the racist poverty stricken south of the US. Why didnt the others progress to freedom and independence? Was it because they couldnt or because they were afraid or werent guided? God knows and everyone is an example and everything we do is an example. Did we show strength determination and faith and emigrate for our heart with God consciousness? Or did they show weakness, sloth, and disbelief at a time of light and change.

High import duties + high levels of bureaucracy means it's hard to impossible to start businesses in Jamaica which makes it so that our country has a very slow growth rate, we need to embrace free market capitalism, PNP mash we up from the 70's till now and none of the leaders changing course.

While I agree to some extent, the advent of internet shopping has made it much easier to buy aboard. It all depends on what business you want to venture into. It’s not easy but I believe with proper planning it’s possible
