Jamaica: The Crew Review - with Zee Garcia

Me and my girlfriend have been having great fun playing with a variation we thought up, where in a 2 player game you change the rules of the ghost ship and add "Battleship" rules instead... Each take a photo of the board and mark 4 trap spaces of the map (Not treasure spaces) with the edit photo feature on your phone and use the draw tool to mark them on the picture. Now when your opponent lands on one of your trap spaces, bring in the ghost ship and attack them as usual. Only move the ship when a trap is triggered. It gives lots more combat opportunities and removes all of the tedious ghost ship movement while adding so much more fun with the traps and bluffing people into them. We also remove all of the overpowered treasure cards and most curse cards too, just keep the extra "Hold" and all of the highest scoring "Victory Point" treasures thereafter. If playing with the expansion (which I do not own yet) I will probably just put all the highest victory point treasures in to the 2 player games and that way it makes it way more worthwhile to stop rather than just rushing to the finish. Honestly, try this out. You will not be disappointed. I could really do with printing out some board cards and then if laminated you could use a marker or maybe even print it on metal and use magnetic X's to mark the spots... Enjoy ;-)

Finally! An expansion for Jaimaica. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if it was released as a sequel of even a new edition. The game's been a favorite for years.

Looks like a good addition and mechcanic. PS dont you hate it how youtube automatically puts a link ad for an auto racing game that has nothing to do with this game just based on keywords and category. they do that with x-wing also.

Biggest problem I have with Jamaica and why I never suggest the game is that you will win if you skip all aspects of the game and just run the the finish. You'll get the 15 points and likely others that stopped will get much less or negative points and their treasure won't help. I realize it's a race, but I think the purpose is the battles, stealing, and special abilities, and instead I lose all that as I run to the end. I like what this expansion does, but I don't think it fixes my initial problem. Thanks for the review.

Phil Z yeah I love the game and yeah the best stragegy is always to just rush the to the end... In order to do that the resource management aspect is important, but taking the long ways to get treasures isn't that convenient most of the times 😀

Phil Z very true but if you decide to enter the game with a different mentality to attack and interact with other players for the fun and get in their face, this game shines. That's to say with any game and personality .

that's only viable if the die rolls allow for it. If the rolls are low, and you just amass treasure, you can get away with a lower placement in the race.

I really like tha game. My problem with Jamaica is that if you make a bad play in a turn, it can make you out of the game. It isn't cool if you are presenting the game to someone, and he or she make this bad play because they misunderstood something and, for example, go back a lot of spaces and never return to the game. I'm curious to test "The Crew"
