I use to make this alot not for breakfast but during my college years because it was cheap and filling. It use to cost me .29 cents for 1 whole cabbage head, 1 bag of carrots was $1.99, I couldn't afford salted fish unless I bought it from the asian food store usually $2.99 for a small piece sometimes the newfoundland brand I would purchase usually $5.99 when I could. But cabbage really got me through some tough times. When I was studying I only had $50 for food for the month.. So cabbage and rice was the menu..everyday..😊 Because you can get a big bag of grace parboiled rice for $5.97 which lasted one person 30 days. And cabbage was the cheapest and the Cabbage heads lasts long in the fridge. Then I use to go the church and get free cans of beans and onions and other herbs and snacks for protein. I love eating this with egg noodles which use to cosy 1 dollar for a big bag!!!😅 That was my college days. The struggle was real. I got tired of eating fried dumplings but I love it warm butter. I would buy the overiped plantains from the discount area that was usually 1.99 too✌🏿 I know in Jamaica it just comes off of the tree for free but here in north America you have to pay for it!!!!!! God bless

Today is Sunday and I cooked a good sit down dinner for the family. All kids left the nest already so I still cook Sunday dinner and drop off . Usually they come over but when Fall starts , it’s busy busy until Christmas break. I made your jerk chicken, rice and peas and was looking for a cabbage dish since I have a head of cabbage in the fridge . I must have my veggies at dinner . I don’t have the salt fish so I will make this dish without the salt fish and next time I buy the salt fish and make the fried dumplings too. I have the plantain , bought two weeks ago …I can’t eat green plantain so I had to wait for it to ripe . I think this is going to be a very nice Sunday dinner !! 😊 I am so happy I found your channel ….now this gal can learn to master JA dishes ! take out JA food is sooooo expensive here , and not everywhere will taste as good as an excellent home chef watching you TEACH it well ! At this time you have 57 K subscribers , you were celebrating 50 K a month ago . congrats !!! You will get to 100 K very fast and then to 250 K in no time ! Keep making good food and teach us !! Word will spread like wild fire . Thanks for writing up the recipe in the description ! My binder of recipes is filling up fast with your recipes. I truly appreciate that you do that written form too cause it’s the only way I feel confident making your recipe and knowing it will taste like yours ! You’re a good man , Nick ! 👍👍👍 God Bless from Canada . ❤

Best to soak saltfish over night to rid excessive salt. Also helps to remove the skin before pre boiling since the skin contains much of the salt.
