I've seen an all-Chinese band from Beijing called 'The Timely Band' do this song in 1988-89 and did very well and very animated with strong rhythm section including drums worthy of a country dance hall.

Well that was fun. I really enjoyed their version of this Hank Williams classic. I didn't know what an erhu is until now, but I liked its sound and the talent it takes to play this instrument. Everything was just great. Double-thumbs up to this group.

The instrument that most gets my attention in this rendition is the erhu. It sounds so much like the violins of the early days of the Wild West. If anyone knows the erhu, they would know it sounds nothing like any western instrument. And yet, it works here while still retaining its own very distinctive sound.

A wonderful version of Jambalaya! The singer has very good English diction, actually she is a lot more understandable than John Fogerty in the CCR version. Great job by all the musicians, I hope they continue to follow their dreams!

BETSY is so sweet in her humble personality when performing, but not to confuse her singing that is actually very nice because of her melodic voice that comes with a gentle mellow tremolo that can easily be accepted to anyone's hearing... chinese ehru is usually for playing melodramatic melodies - one of the famous example is the Butterfly Lover Concerto - ehru's counterpart is the violin which the Butterfly Lover Concerto was originally written for ( see youtube - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqaYiaKeirdmhsk&start_radio=1 --------------- this video also shows the chinese counterpart of the trumpet as well )

The Erhu is now one of my favorite instruments. So much sound from just two strings. I live in the Ozarks where bluegrass music is more popular than any other music genre and this group does some of the best. I hope they do more. Keep up the good work, Eric!

I gotta tell ya I am impressed and feel a little bit honored. There are lots of bands that play tribute music to American and English bands. A pair of Israeli's sit out on the streets playing "Wish You Were Here" and sound very close to the original. Tells you we are not so far apart when it comes to the love of music no matter where you are on Earth. Thank you Eric Shi and Chinese Bluegrass.

Thank you @@kongchan437 for taking the time to share this link with me. I was only going to check out a few minutes of the performance, but I was hooked like a fish in the first few minutes. This was so amazing to me on many levels! The Chinese erhu must be one of the most expressive of instruments. Other than the Western instruments, bamboo flute, erhu and ghuzheng, I was not familiar with the other instruments including the horns. I must study more. These instruments are works of art themselves, like the hammered zithers and the ghuzheng. This erhu performance was astounding, truly jaw-dropping, and music lovers everywhere will delight in this! The virtuosity of this performer (I'm sure she's famous in China) is ... I'm sorry, I don't have words that are adequate to describe what I just saw and heard. The youth orchestra was a joy to watch and a pleasure to hear, all so accomplished and shining so brightly!

@@mweinberg55 there are other way to play the erhu also.... for different effect - such as one erhu performance on some horse racing theme in open desert plan - I could not find that link but found couple other similar erhu horse racing theme not as good as the one I seen couple years ago - for example see 1:13 / 1:41 mark of this violin-erhu ensemble ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5iaf52Hbbynd7c ) or 4:18 of another erhu solo ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmSuo42HmLhorMU ) - enjoy
