Wife and I traveling to Denver next month. Catching a concert at Red Rocks. Will be my first concert at Red Rocks. Greensky Bluegrass is performing that night. Never heard of them until a month ago. Started to listen to them and they are AMAZING. Heard this song and Holly was playing piano. She is incredible and now I am following her. Just found out she is going to be there performing with them for the show. We are so incredibly excited to see her and Greensky. What a thrill and cannot wait.

Both parts of this are absolutely brilliant and beautiful. The dynamic (soft to loud) arrangement of the main song structure is very thoughtful, creative, and emotive. Then the transcription of the complex multipart jam in the second half is just insanity. Like a lot of heads I know the Louisville Eyes by heart and the wit and artistry of this interpretation made me laugh out loud a couple of times in admiration. Excellent!

So many great versions of this song. This one definitely counts as one of the masterpieces. The beginning is special because it gives us more variation and the end because it strips the outro down to the core elements of one of the best instrumentals the dead ever played. I've heard that version hundreds of times and it is spot on here. I would play this for a friend who is new to the dead. This is Phil... this is Jerry. If you don't love this, then you are not ever going to love the Dead.
