Bobby Davro’s Notebook
Richard has been playing I Spy with a 3 year old, and also reveals the cover of his new book, Would You Rather? His guests are the disrespectful young imps from the Off Menu podcast (after Richard was so well behaved on theirs) Ed Gamble and James Acaster.
They discuss how many people believed Richard was a competition winner on their podcast - and how the pair have fared with some genuine competition winning guests, Richard’s constructive criticism of Off Menu, how Dan Akroyd turned out to be the Brian Blessed of OM, how brilliant a contestant Richard was on Taskmaster and how Champion of Champions is progressing, plus performing comedy on a cruise ship, what Ed’s new advertising slogan means and who would be the funniest person to lose a partner to.

I love it when Rich's guests take the piss out of him for his mean spirited trolling. Rachel Parris and Sarah Millican are also good at calling him out.
@Herring1967

The piss taking (both ways I hope) is a sign of affection and respect and not mean spirited. The fact I only do it with certain guests is a compliment to them and I am nearly always the main victim of the joke in any case. So I think this is a misread of the comedy in these situations. It is fun, however, to do an interview that isn't a complete suck up to the guest and where failures are discussed as well as successes. I think it works because my career has had many failures. But I do agree, setting up the guests to be rude back to me (Sarah Millican doesn't seem to need any excuse) is one of the highlights of the podcast.

0. Great episode, but James Acaster jokes about Rich's thinly-veiled tweets (I didn't verify whether they exist) and Stew googling himself were hilarious. 1. Stew is a great comedian, and he is still one of the very best, but I don't understand why he's decided that he doesn't like Richard anymore. It's too immature and stupid. He should ask to get on RHLSTP to promote his film (King Rocker). It's completely silly that he's suddenly appearing on every obscure podcast in the world except the one hosted by his old comedy partner. 2. I was thrilled when Richard won Taskmaster, and I hope he does more TV as a panelist/participant. 3. The one place where I assume I agree with Stew (re. Richard) is that I think Richard is perhaps spreading himself a bit too thin and hasn't been honing/crafting/polishing/refining his stand-up shows as much as he could. The ideas for Richard's shows are often great, and I think with more work perhaps some of them can be turned into masterpieces. -- On a separate note: when Richard started releasing "Retro RHLSTP", my astonishment kept growing week-by-week when the Prof. Mary Beard episode failed to appear. Finally, it came out a few weeks ago. I hope she makes it back to RHLSTP again soon, and I hope some more non-comedians (e.g., Prof. Andrew George) are also invited. -- Sorry for the long comment and I hope I haven't offended anyone.

I totally apply myself to stand up shows and put an awful lot of work into them and hone them over the tour as well. If you don't like them by the end of that then it's not due to lack of me trying. I think they're pretty good myself, but 1000s of hours of work go into each one. The internet stuff is nearly all improvised so that's a different matter.

Don't think so. The live stream is raising money for charity and it's only £25 for all of them (if you become a badger for £3 a month). And the audio will go out for free as usual.

Wow. Just listened to the Dan Aykroyd podcast. It seems the secret to his inimitable dead pan delivery is a total lack of a sense of humour, unless that's a recent development.

Tbf, he has really quite severe Aspergers so it’s likely a product of that. The first draft of The Blues Brothers script was apparently 10+ hours long to give you a sort of idea of how it manifests in him

He buried the fuck out of Herring in an interview back in June. Pretty much painted Herring as someone who held his brand of comedy back with his double act.
