This is brilliant, a really well made point and such a nicely shot and acted video. It's pretty sad the way that things have gone, but I guess in a lot of ways it's better than it was 20 or 30 years ago when the only artists who could get anywhere were the ones with record deals. There's still some vague whisper of meritocracy, even if it's being suffocated by industry shilling, social media influencer culture and fake streams. I think the best time to be an artist was probably the MySpace era though, somewhere around that time. The labels hadn't really figured out the internet yet, and it was sort of the Wild West. Some of the music was pretty bad but there was just a feeling of freedom and that anyone could make it, regardless of whether or not they were good at TikTok or had a successful Mukbang channel or whatever.

It's so hard to promote original music, online or in person. I make psychedelic funk/synth pop. But because it isn't the same as everyone else's psych-pop it's been super hard to gain a following. Ive tried ads on all social media across the board. Ive tried selling cds face to face with people. And everything in between it seems. And for me personally it's been 5 years of no reach and little to no community interaction. It can be really hard to stay motivated in times like this. But it's something we have to do 🙏

The track for some reason is strangely reminiscent of “Ray Of Light” for me and it’s just giving me Goosebumps. The concept of the video is an absolute goldmine and for anyone 35+ probably has looked at the dancing and thought “well fuck me” on the street. We feel seen. I feel seen. Some scenes make it look like when he got hit, it brought him to a bit of a break with reality, or maybe back to a more “real place”

I was introduced to James Blake back in 2016 when he performed at House of Blues in Boston. He pulled out all the stops, it was fantastic! Been a fan ever since. But it seems crazy that someone as talented and established as Blake has difficulty maintaining a platform that is legitimate to him. It seems like all working artists are being forced to become content machines in some form or another. Worth is getting measured less and less by the quality and execution of an artistic vision and more by the surge of tiktok views. Either compromise the vision or get swept under the rug. There has to be a balance somewhere right?
