For over a decade, the myth has been going around of there being an uncut version of the first James Bond film DR. NO released on home video in 1982. But is it true? What evidence is there?

You didn't mention this, but I know I have seen a different cut of the scene where Bond asks the police chief about a picture of Quarrel at the crime scene in Strangeways' home/office. Maybe on TV. The one I distinctly remember is a few words longer. When Bond asks about Quarrel in the picture, he says: "Do you recognize this man?" Superintendent Duff answers with something to the effect of: "I've seen him before. He's been in a little trouble, but nothing serious". Then Bond asks if Duff remembers Quarrel's name name and the cop answers: "No, but I can find out." In every version I've seen since (and I own the Blueray, the DVD before it, and the VHS tape before that), the middle line about seeing him before is cut out. Probably for time pacing reasons. And, if you look closely you can see a slight jump in the film right there, where you can tell there has been a cut. I'm a video editor, myself, and I know what an edit looks like. What can you tell me about that? I know I didn't dream it!

Also, I remember having seen a different cut of "Goldfinger" when it first aired on network TV. When Honor Blackman says: "My name is Pussy Galore", Bond answers with: "Of course, you are", instead of the more familiar: "I must be dreaming". Does anyone else remember that? Maybe it was done for television censorship purposes, or something. Also, on network TV, they used to drastically cut down the famous fight scene in "From Russia with Love", whenever it showed on ABC. I guess because of perceived brutality at the time. As a kid (who had heard about this fight scene), I wondered why it was supposed to be so good. Then I saw the uncut version, for the first time, in a college film class - and I finally knew what made it so good! Of course, we all must be aware of the bizarre editing job that ABC did with "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", intended to stretch the movie out over two nights. Point is...there are definitely other cuts of this series out there. I wonder if the lost bits from "Dr. No" might be true!

Yes sir it is indeed true whether they want to admit to it or not Dr NO has deleted scenes including the professor dent death scene where James Bond shoots professor 6 times.. sometimes when movies make it to television they added out... And also sound studios delete original cuts.. that we remember that were in the movies

I've never heard of this before. Dr. No is one of the most interesting Bond film when it comes to behind the scenes, so I'd love to see more content that didn't make it into the final product. Hopefully someone will find the trimmed scenes.

That's the trouble with censorship: it's so easy to do, often on a whim or "just in case," but it's so hard to undo. Once they're cut, films have a habit of staying that way forever, usually because the censored footage gets lost. That's especially true with older films like "Dr. No" where no-one in 1962 foresaw there ever being a market for "deleted scenes" or "director's cuts" on home formats.

Indeed true.. I have seen some of the deleted scenes of Dr no.... Some of the footage is floating around on KZbin.... In some VHS tapes contain this deleted scenes even though... This information says it doesn't exist on VHS

This is the same false rumor people have claimed for the initial CBS/FOX video releases of FRWL containing the ending without the hard cut to remove “what a performance!” That is also sadly untrue. The edits in the early films are indeed cut into the negative. This includes the 003 bomb timer from Goldfinger which did make it into the earliest release prints before it was changed for the wide release. What is true about the early video versions is that they used direct print copies and sometimes could vary wildly in quality. The CED of YOLT randomly used the ABC TV edit of the film. Thunderball used a British print with the Mix A mono which also meant it had the UK censor edits and had the mink glove scene removed. OHMSS didn’t have a fully uncut release until MGM/UA was doing the first letterbox series release and made new masters for each film. That series and the Criterion Laserdiscs just before them were the first major new transfer process on video.

Some of the rumors are not rumors at all but... As a matter of fact professor dense death.. has just recently surfaced on KZbin uncut... Show a total of 6 bullets in professor dent courtesy of James Bond... And another scene where the chauffeur gets his hand slammed in the glove box of the car by Bond reaching for his pistol... Get out on KZbin

I have definitely seen the uncut shooting of professor Dent - it was a while ago but it was rather excessive in that he shots are quite slow in coming but relentless - sadistic even

There is also the uncut version of the commentary on the first 3 LD releases (which were withdrawn) s in which Terrance Young is quite candid about the film and also relates a tale of Chris Blackwell rocking up 'giggling' to his house in London to try and tap Young for money to get Island records off the ground.

I had an original batamax copy of the 6 shots scene and he truly does shoot the guy several times plus he tells him "You've had your six now ill have mine" I remember thinking wow bond was surprisingly brutal in that movie and it was very cool. They also cut out Bond doing a somewhat brutal back stabbing on the island

I Remember seeing the uncut version on ITV here in the UK many years ago .The scene I most remember is The Professor go's for his gun & it is empty .Bond said something along the lines of You have an Smith Western 45 witch holds 6 bullets .now have my seven .I know where going of the subject but can any help when the showing of JAWS. When it was perimered here in the UK in 1981 It's the autopsy scene when Matt hooper holds up the remains of the first victim it goes on for a lot longer

I recall renting an early VHS video of the Bad News Bears around the early 80's where you can see an insane amount of boom mikes. I have never seen anything like it before or since.

I have a print of Jurassic Park in the original 4:3 and 16:9 for effect shots where you can see A LOT of what the black bars hide nowadays. It's fascinating to have these rare versions

I have seen a british broadcasted version of Bond shooting the prof Dent multiple times in the back , I did not dream this because at the time of watching I remember how brutal it did seem to be..can not remember if this was during the 90s or not, but would love to know if anyone else has memory of this..I am a Bond fan and have seen Dr No a number of times and have never seen this version since..it was on ITV

I promise you that what i saw was not bullsquat. Like I stated in my comment, I would like further comment from anyone else who may remember this particular version which was broad cast it just seems very coincidental that a memory that I have of a familiar film chimes well with this very well researched video.Sorry if you feel so strongly, but I have often seen versions of films different to cinematic releases upon the tv.Take care@@sonnysantana5454

I guess "she'll amuse the guards" makes her out to be an object for the guards' amusement, with all that throwing a female prisoner to the men implies, while "the guards will amuse her" is more open to innocent interpretations, e.g. maybe the guards just need a captive audience to test their song and dance routines on ahead of the annual Henchman's Ball?

Whether they want to confirm it are not about the 1962 movie DR NO there is deleted scenes.. the HBO special James Bond Marathon showed the uncut version of Dr no .... There is also a cut from the VHS tape from 1982 floating around on KZbin... The death of professor dent with six bullets unedited.. and some other scenes from the chauffeur reaching into the glove box for his pistol.... I believe more unedited footage will eventually show up on KZbin and websites... That contradicts this... Even AI denies its existence .... What would be very awesome and cool would be to just simply re-release Dr no and its entirety... With all of the deleted scenes put.. a special edition DVD

I want the uncut scene from the end of From Russia With Love as I have always hated that jump cut at the end when Connery and Danielle Bianci look at the reel of film from their introductory meeting. Supposedly the original negative was cut, but not sure if that was ever confirmed.

The footage will be reviewed by my expert friends. At first glance, several things seem off and I lean towards fake.

The footage has been reviewed and it is a FAKE. First off, flat panel TVs that thin didn't exist in 2001, neither did the home video release that's playing on it. It is clearly the 2006 Lowry restoration which is evident due to the sharpness and color. In 2001, where the video in question was allegedly filmed, this quality was not available. Secondly, the extra shots Bond fires from his chair are so clearly the same, just replayed again - the timing and hand positions between them match exactly. The angle of Dent lying on the floor being shot in the back is actually quite clever - watched frame by frame you can clearly see that this guy just reversed the footage a couple of times to extend it. Thirdly, the camera shaking and low resolution are supposed to hide the fact, that this video is a fake.

I know I don't remember seeing another other cut of the film and I'm a 54 year old Gen Xer born in 1969 who saw the movie around this time so I think this is just an unsubstantiated rumor.
